- Gary Numan - Micromusic - Wembley, London 1981
Gary Numan's 1981 'Farewell' concerts at Wembley Arena, London marked the first phase of his career.
Performing material from three Number 1 albums (Replicas, The Pleasure Principle and Telekon) against the spectacular backdrop of one of the largest sets ever built on a stage in the UK, this is Numan delivering on every level -- songs that are still hugely influential 30 years later, pure pop star theatre and a light show as big as a city.
One of the greatest shows of all time? No question.

Absolute legend.
This is when I realised how good Gary was live
Great song, no matter how often he's forever identified with 'Cars'... this is the apex & the conclusion of a great moment in pop/punk/new wave, modern music...
Shut up
hmmm friends lectric for me
The best !!! Gary's music makes my skin turn to bumps !
40 years ago...what a concert, will always be the best I have ever been to.
No matter what anybody says, it was never the same after the 28th April 1981. Period !!
I assume you refer to Gary Numan going it alone, you maybe right, but i adore this song and anything from 1979 -81, it was a great time to be 15 /16
Yes, things start going west after this period. Paul’s addiction and then sad demise I think precipitates it in some way. Gary seems to think he has to pander to the critics with some changes of direction. 😔
Awesome single and performance here from Gary. He looks well confident on stage
I'd be happy if I had the amount of coolness Gary possess in his thumb - this guy is a freakin' legend!!!
You'd also need his hair implants. Face of a 63yo, hair of a 20yo.
This was the year I was born awesome
Gary Numan is a God to me
Great performance. The bath robe adds a nice touch
Gary Numan is the man period hands up to sky!!!!!! Do the Carlton go Gary go!!!!!
Maybe his best song
He probably has couple of the best songs ;)
Sure. 'Are Friends Electric' is the other one.
This or we are so fragile
So gorgeous
I love the scratchy guitar on this version. On a different subject I just wish less money went on the sets and lighting (Ridiculous amounts that wrecked profits) and the band got a bit more instead. This band was a really cool envelope for his ideas. Class!
The scratchy guitar is the same, but mixed in a bit louder during this live version, and yes, it does give it a rockier heavier sound...
As for the lighting, I loved it (I was there on the second of the three nights)... I think the over-the-top lighting was for a different reason. Gary has Asperger's syndrome, and during his younger years, didn't really know how to deal with it, which is the reason for the lack of ad-lib dialogue between songs. A great light show plus his robotic style dancing covered up that. Of course, later on, he was able to master and cope with Asperger's, and interacts a lot more with the crowd.
Seen him in Newcastle uk 🇬🇧 years ago fantastic 👍
Thank You for the 4.3 full screen, YES! His best period for me will always be 1979-1982
Where would we be without the synthetic god love him❤
Tuuuuuuuuune
Cedreic Sharpley RIP I saw the Telekon tour in Montreal! It is a concert I will never forget!
Screaming you will suffer.
#NUMAN
EPIC tune.
Over 40 years and still training to this one.
Nice one Gaz!!! 💪
This set must have been a fortune in 1981
Fantastic!
A line of the good stuff.. sit back and enjoy ;)
Wow this is awesome
Muito bom Gary numan 👍😎
Brasileiro...
Did he just wear the hotel robe?
None of his live versions matches the original recording in either of the two mixes. It's too Status Quo rock. Missing is the high, tinkly synth part over the intro, verses and outro on a G major while the band plays G-F-C-B flat which gives a spooky tension.
LO80 version for me - pure magic!
