I actually really love how he stood on the table and just kinda yelled "LOVE ME" to the audience, not only is it insanely entertaining, but it adds to the whole over-the-top, self obsessed, conceited persona that matty puts on (or expresses) and emphasized on the neediness and the kinda demand for attention in the song. What a great performance, but damn, that boy is insane.
Can we just talk about the fact that they played "love me" which is a song about being pretentious and being famous and wanting people to like you so you would play whatever they want... In front of a shit ton of people that do the same thing? At the MERCURY AWARDS?
As the performance went on, it got better and better. Matty seems like he definitely does not give a f&ck, and seems to always be self-aware even when he is acting out the bombastic nature of the song.

he signalled at the start he couldn't hear himself, always fucking happens how hard is it to just turn his amp up (the one facing him as opposed to the crowd) so he can hear himself. such a champ for always continuing but he doesn't sound his best because of it i'll admit. HOWEVER he is such a rockstar in this and i fucking love it
He wasn't signalling he couldn't hear himself he was just doing actions to the song i think, but baring in mid this was towards the end of the evening i imagine the champagne had gone down pretty well with him and the boys so i think this is a pretty good performance baring in mind Matty at least is fairly drunk

with different gigs and artsist it's sometimes that and sometimes an amp. in this case you are right he has ear monitors and the term i was looking for was levels, I was kinda tired i'm guessing that's why I referred back to my old knowledgable rather than recent
Matty isn't straining his voice to be heard, the strain you're hearing is a combination of the fact that a) this song is hard to sing, it's in the upper end of Matty's range and has a lot of belting notes, and b) his voice is generally tired/not at its best
