I don't think he ever reached his potential as a performer. I feel he was still growing as an artist. I used to listen to stories of him and Geno on the road. They let me sang background with them backstage before their performances. Willie would then go on stage and tell the audience about it! Lol, I was super shy and embarrassed, but it was his encouragement that powered me to be a singer. They believed in me. I wanna thank them both today. Geno and Willie, my heroes, thank you for your love, support and kindness. I will never forget you both. Rest easy, my old friends.😢❤ 🙏

I'll never forget him coming to Alabama in the 80's when I was a young girl. It seemed as if his voice stayed the same when I got grown. He was truly a blessing.

Hey Nunu Love, these guy's weren't just back up. The bass player, drummer, and keyboard player who sang what Paul or Robert would sing were actually a part of the Keynotes. And the guitar player that did the solo played with him often...his father was a part of Lee Williams and The Spiritual QC 's. And of course you have Kenneth Earl or Doc who was also with him with the New Keynotes and he also played with The Truthette's when they first started out. The bass player started with Willie when he was 14... Paul brought him on board when he first went back with Willie . He is truly truly missed. There will never be another Willie Neal Johnson.
