- Live hatching of keets, great close up footage and all you need to know to get started raising guinea fowl. This batcg was abandoned by their mother after 5 in the clutch hatched and she had to take them to feed.
The remaining 14 hatched a couple of days later, and are being cared for by us.

I absolutely LOVE guinea fowl! I have read that a single guinea fowl can eat up to 400 ticks in a day and they are an excellent way of keeping snakes away from your home. I believe they are similar to geese in the way they warn you LOUDLY of a newcomer or something different.
Yep all true, definitely an asset to any fsrm.

fun fact, if you move hen to sit on eggs and remove any hatching eggs quickly place them on terrarium heat mat in safe space further away from mum, she will sit on eggs up till 3 months easily, so you can get 2 hatches or even 3 out of broody hen, i'm doing it with great sucess, it works with duck, chickens, turkeys are amazing can last for 6 months or even 7 sitting on eggs so you will get multiple hatches from them, and guineas.

We have 48 acres in Canada, and I was wondering how do you train them to come back? Do you coop them up for five weeks like a chicken? Great post!
Hey Peter, yes when we first purchased the guinea fowl we kept them caged for about 10 days to 2 weeks then let them out and coaxed them in each night with food to form a habit. These days we just let them roam because they prefer to roost up the trees and they don't lay eggs to collect. They never stray. The only problem with allowing them to free range is that they are terrible parents and loose all of their offspring. Also they nest on the ground so they can easily be taken as prey. We just lost 3 females this way. We try to collect the newly hatched keets and hand rear them and either eat or return them to the flock once they are old enough to survive without parenting. (delicious eating) We have no ticks and very few snakes, they are the best watch dog too, we love them. Thank you for watching and your comment.

what kind of feed to buy for keets
I used a mix of bran or pollard, grated carrots or sweet potato and mince meat. I think the grated vegies looked like worms and helped them to feed, they like to see movement to entice them to eat, I would tap my finger to mimic this and eventually they would just eat it. Thanks for watching.
At what age guneia fowl start lay eggs..
Hi. In our experience it is the first season after they mature so around 12 months. They lay during breeding season, we haven't seen any lay outside of breeding season. Thanks for watching let us know if we can help any other way.
You dont use a brooder why not
The Guinea Fowl sit very well but once hatched they lose them and they eventually all die. So we just wait for our free range fowl to hatch their eggs then collect the keets.
