    I’ve found it useful to build a mini base in the ruins. Typically I pick a broken pseudoscience station not too close to a nightmare light and put in a few chests, a fire pit, a tent and a crockpot. It’s easier to just repair one of those stations than having to avoid the complete one surrounded by nightmare lights during the nightmare cycle. You can spend most of the summer down there, living off of monkeys and collecting goodies. Just make sure to bring a stack or two of living logs when you head down there. The biggest hassle of the ruins is inventory management, so I just keep everything there: gems, thulecite, a stash of nightmare fuel, extra clops eyes, etc.

    • @DemonRebuilt
      @DemonRebuilt  Před 4 lety +18

      Yeah good idea. Might cost a bit of Thulecite in the beginning but probably worth it in the long run.

      If you’re playing Winona or Wormwood it becomes way too easy to live in the ruins using their respective gear to farm monkeys. that’s near infinite jerky and poop for your needs. Also tons of nightmare fuel so you can much more easily keep your bone gear or Magiluminescence topped off.

    If you happen to be playing with friends, a great character combo for clearing the ruins is Willow + Wendy. Willow deals with the insanity monsters using Bernie, and is even able to keep him on top shape even after he's taken a beating if you bring a sewing kit, whereas Wendy can clear the hordes of splumonkeys on the village biome, dangling depth dwellers on the labyrinth, as well as the clockwork knights and bishops on the military and sacred biomes if she has health regen or shield elixirs for Abigail.
    Another great perk of having these two together is the fact that Willow greatly benefits from the beard hairs that Shadow splumonkeys drop, which Abigail will be killing a lot of by just being around them. Seeing as this is the only annoying ingredient to get for crafting more Bernies, if you bring some some beefalo wool and silk with you to the ruins as Willow, you can craft more Bernies on the go to further help your partnered Wendy if you ever need to split up, seeing as Wendy struggles quite a bit when insane, considering how she deals less damage than most of the cast.
    Finally, since both of them have very differing roles, their food options won't overlap as much, which may sound weird at first, but is actually a good thing, since they can better organize their shared inventory. Since Wendy will want to stay as sane as she can during the expedition, she should carry all the bananas with her, while Willow's diet should consist mostly of blue mushrooms, considering how she's the one that's going to have to deal with the most intense fights with the nightmare creatures, and since Bernie only comes to her aid when she's insane, her sanity being low at all times is basically mandatory.

That ammo is so op and easy to craft and also get shadow tentacles i always make like 120 or even more of this ammo as 12 fragments and nightmare fuel is so easy to get and it makes suck op ammo for Walter. Perhaps his video on the caves in general is what would help you. But the general idea is this:
      There are plugged sinkholes in the surface, that when you mine, you can descend into to join the caves server.
      Finding the ruins can be tricky, but there's a rule of thumb that can help.
      The map generally has mostly the foresty kind of biomes on one side (along with the cave staircases you descend from the surface from), and the ruins on the opposite side of the map. By descending down several cave entrances, you can get a few points on the caves map to have a general idea of the extent of the underground forests. Finding the ruins at that point requires much less guesswork, since you'll mainly be looking for ways to get to a certain side of the map in general. I generally like to find 4 cave exits before I head off in one direction in particular, but that's not strictly necessary.
      Anyway, didn't mean to sound condescending or anything, just trying to help. I wish you luck!

      @@Samuel-hc7gp Plugged sinkholes? I'll have to google that...there's so much I don't know about this game, it's scary lol. Sometimes I wonder why I watch these kinds of advanced gameplay videos when me and my gf struggle to get past the first winter haha :D

    • @Samuel-hc7gp
      @Samuel-hc7gp Před 2 lety

      @@TKaarel Yeah, that first winter is the big milestone. If you can get past the first winter, the other seasons will be much easier.
      There's a few mods that help, like being able to see your temperature so you don't freeze out of nowhere, I highly recommend playing with at least a few mods. Combined Status, Geometric Placement, and Simple Health Bar are what I consider a good baseline set. They're good for being able to track your stats, see where enemies are when they target you, and build without any potential OCD flaring up.
      Anyway, what is it that gets you more often than not? The cold, Deerclops, the lack of food, or something else?

    • @TKaarel
      @TKaarel Před 2 lety

      @@Samuel-hc7gp We can make it to Deerclops, but then it's GG. We simply haven't learned how to fight him, yet. But then again there was a time where day 10 hounds were impossible to beat...then Treeguard. But it's fun to challenge ourselves and learn together without handholding or tips. So please don't spoil how we can "easily defeat the Deerclops" :)
      *whispers* You can give me a hint, though*

    • @Samuel-hc7gp
      @Samuel-hc7gp Před 2 lety

      @@TKaarel The key to fighting most things in this game is kiting, attacking a mob between its attacking animations, and running out just in time to trigger its attack animation, but early enough to not actually get hit. There's a few good videos out there, I'll leave a link if you're interested.
      czcams.com/video/o3SJ9oVbmzo/video.html&ab_channel=FreddoFilms
      Kiting isn't the easy way by any means. It's basically the main way, the "official" way, although there are a few easier ones.
      For deerclops, there's a 2-hit window. If you're still in the process of learning the timing for a particular mob, or just need practice, I might stick with one hit. Once you get an understanding of how long Deerclops waits before each hit, and knowing what part of the animation actually deals damage, you can go for 2 hits per cycle.
      It takes practice to get comfortable with. I suggest, next time you come across him, try to stay just outside of his attack range, dodging in little bits at a time, so you can see at which distance he'll attack, and how long he waits. It's risky if you dodge in too soon, but you gotta learn somehow.
      There are several ways to deal with Deerclops, but the general rule of thumb is to make sure you don't spawn him in base, so he doesn't destroy all your structures. So, when you hear the roaring, or if your character says something, get away from any structures you don't want destroyed.
      There's a way to reset the world and your character to the most recent morning, if you're interested. It might be handy if you want to practice with a boss, and don't want the lasting consequences of death while trying to learn. It's super simple to use, but if you think that sounds a little cheaty, or will take away from the experience, I won't tell you. If you are interested, just let me know.
      Yeah, this game is fun to learn, and it's super rewarding to overcome its obstacles, as long as you're not put off from its uncompromising nature.
