steam os just added screen record couple days ago

This video was awesome, even if it is very few and far between, I would love to see reviews of other things here. It feels very satisfying to get a review from someone who is not engrossed in the tech industry so it feels way more genuine. This format could also support other things and not just tech, maybe review places that you go or food you eat.
The latest Steam client includes screen recording. You can wait for the update to come to the stable channel or you can go into the Steam Deck's settings and turn on the beta channel if you want to try it now.
@@Invid72 it’s an awesome feature and great to have, but it’s only a screen recording. He wouldn’t be able to mic and camera like he set up here. He would also still need to transfer the recording to a main computer to edit, where he can edit from the ally if needed.
I love my steamdeck, have not yet learned to customize mine yet to do windows/gog etc just yet. I seen gamedev friends managed to be able to get stuff like game engines working on thiers like unreal engine 5, godot, unity, as well as programs like houdini, blender as well. Which I have yet to learn how to do on my SteamDeck but to lazy lol.
I was MJ's 100th subscriber, thought that was pretty fun.
I have thousands of hours played on my poor Switch Lite, and it's honestly the only real thing I have the time and capacity for. I've been wanting a steam deck to finally get into all of my steam games, but this is a good persuasion otherwise! Windows seems annoying on it, but I'd LOVE portability with my PS games!
trust me, the steam deck oled is WORTH IT. i was in the exact same boat as you; using my beloved switch lite to the bone and felt like i wanted to diversify my gaming options. never cared for absolutely bleeding edge graphics so i never really gave much thought to the rog ally or legion go (also because windows is a deterrent of sorts for me tbh). steam deck also had the most appealling design to me, so the steam deck it was! funnily enough though, i had never used steam prior to getting my deck. fast forward a coupla months and i'm nearing 200 games in my library, it's such an amazing device
If money isn’t an issue just get an ROG ally, you can even install the steamdecks OS and get the best of both worlds.
Grab lcd to 279 and upgrade SSD which takes 2 sec and redownload os on flash drive witch Rufus sets up for u follow instructions it's easy I'm rocking lcd was 64gb now 1T and 1t microsd works great by far the best handheld has decent power but not the best but price is for sure the best
Do not listen to anyone if their only argument is get the Steam Deck because it has an OLED screen. I'm not bashing it but that is not a major factor to buy when the resolution caps at 720.
Steam Deck OLED >>>>>>>> Its not even close the amount of support and work from the community that goes towards the deck, got one two weeks ago, absolutely no regrets Ive been having a great time

I have the OG one, myself I will wait for Ally 2 before buying another. Love it just wish It did have more RAM like the Ally X does.
I could be wrong, but I don't think you can play Playstation anywhere except a PS device. They have released some games onto PC through Steam etc, but the PSPlus doesn't allow you to access your library of games on PC. BUT, you might be able to set it up to remote play the Playstation. I have never done this myself, but it would basically start you PS at home and stream the game through the internet. Again, not 100% sure on this.
XBox is a bit different, because XBox is both Console and PC...most of the console games can be played on PC (but I don't think all).
Anyways, the device looks pretty good, and having that versatility would definitely make up for having to go through a lengthier setup! Do another review of it in say 3 - 6 months on how you feel about it then!

I bought Project Zomboid just a few months ago. I do need to watch some play throughs, though. I was dying so fast every time.
As a PC gamer i really have a hard time understanding why playing on such a small little device is fun for anyone, but i am most likely not the target audience for these controllers :P
Also i love project zomboid, so please show us how you play it on the device there! That would be fun!
I LOVE my switch, but it is ALWAYS connected to the TV lol, i cannot play with it in my hands, its too small.. I loved my PS2 but i just never got into other consoles like that, i would rather just use my PC haha, I have also been a PC gamer since i was what 6? That's 22 years now..
I've just jumped back into WoW for the first time in YEARS and I'm having so much fun. Having it available on a handheld device would be rad as hell.
To your point of not being able to screen record on the Steam Deck, Valve actually recently added screen recording to Steam, which is available on the Steam Deck.
I know you're enjoying your ROG Ally X, and I hope you continue to enjoy it. But I thought you and anyone watching this should know that it actually is capable of doing screen recording out of the box now.
To clarify, the game recording feature is in beta right now and you have to opt-in to the Steam beta client to get access to it at the moment. It will be pushed to the stable branch of Steam in the future for anyone using Steam to access, including ROG Ally users.
Couldnt you just use OBS with linux? there's a installer for it. Not knocking anything I agree with you as its now the best Windows handheld even better than the GPD win4 which I have and I personally like the Ally/X much more for me.

I would love to know if an art tablet will work with it? I currently have a Windows surface pro, it doesn’t have the ability to game anything big on it. I can barely play sims4 on it. If I can do art and games on a portable device that’s the dream.❤
It's windows, so yes, there is no reason why you can't plug in a tablet and run photoshop :P
for some people, sure the Ally X would replace the SD in terms of a windows handheld Device. but the SD is still good in it's own regard for the native steam OS, even if worried bout the battery life, there are power banks, that you could use.
I have a Steam Deck. You can add None Steam games to your steam deck, so almost any Exe. it just take some tinkering, like adding keyboard keys to your controller in controller settings while playing a game. if i could recall valve is going to add a way to record your screen in the future. I can understand not using steam deck if you dont want to tinker.
The only thing putting me off the ROG is just the customer support, I've seen many horror stories with Asus yet Valve put the customer first. Still waiting for the Steamdeck 2 here!

Okay I think you sold me on the ROG Ally X because of how you can use it with your son. I would be able to better play games with my nieces who love video games. My niece when she was 2 would sit and play Puyo Puyo and Dr Mario with me and insist on playing on the switch or using my Steam Deck but now that she is wanting to make videos like the other kids she sees on CZcams and loves playing games this might be something I could set up like that for her 🥹 like you said Friday night funkin! My niece loves parappa the rapper 🥹 dancing puppy always gets her giggling
You can screen record on steam deck, and it also has a full desktop 😅
I feel like people would have way less complaints about the steam deck if they knew how computers work.
For example, you can indeed screen record on Steam Deck natively now and you can also just run OBS on it.
You can install and play Friday NIght Funkin on it the exact same way you can play it on Windows.
You can install games from other launchers on your steam deck.
You can work on Word documents and crack open your email too.
It's sponsored by Asus, they had to justify why you should pay 4x the price of a base steam deck

The Ally X is decent and really what the Ally should have been day one. But your use cases are all pretty much available on the deck...so if you have an Ally/Deck etc $800 ehhhhhhhh
Any gaming device that lets you bond with your kids is a win. However, given Asus has a crap track record of honoring their warranties. This Device is a pass I will stick with my Deck.

Steam Deck is still the better handheld simply because SteamOS > Windows.
Oh no, you bought a portal... yeah it's more like an expensive display piece if you get a good acrylic case for it yeah it could fit lol I like the form factor of this ROG Ally but windows... on a gaming handheld device the OS is not made for it. The steam deck is literally like we got you gamer and ROG Ally is like X lol

Great that you're happy, but there's a lot of false information in this video. A lot of the things you said can't be done on the Steam Decl absolutely *can* be done on it.

I would suggest sitting down with MJ and having him delete all of his progress in every game and start over. Will it suck for him, sure ya, but in the long run it will help... Just seeing the anxiety of "DONT RUIN MY GAME" all you were gonna do is load the game up and show us. It wasn't until I gave up my PS3 and PS4 and started mobile gaming in my late 30s that I was able to relax and start letting go of the "NEED" to have everything perfect in a game, no deaths, every item, etc. Ya trophies are fun to get but not worth raging out over
