he was first a pious jew and further a great musician, thats why his personal "aura" is so beautiful. he sang among the best of his age and never exaggerates. cantorfahlenkamp

Legacy -- Rosenblatt pioneered the use of several cantorial techniques which have subsequently been adopted by cantors around the world. These include his trademark krekhts, or sob in which he would deliberately allow his voice to crack to convey the emotion of what he was singing. He also developed a realistic soprano falsetto as a method of easing the strain on his overworked voice. A prolific composer, more than one hundred and eighty pieces of his have been preserved.
    Molto Bello! Thank you!

To truly appreciate the incredible talent of Yossele Rosenblatt in both his compositions and singing, one must understand the meaning of the words. These were not just beautiful musical compositions sung at the highest possible level of tenor singing, but music that perfectly fit the overall mood of the prayer and the precise meaning of its words, and whose singing conveyed their meaning in a truly visceral manner. No other cantor has ever come close to Yossele both in the sheer beauty and multi-level qualities of his voice, and in the way he conveyed the meaning of each composition so uniquely and perfectly. This video also shows how remarkably he produced and used his voice without the slightest sense of strain, shifting from tenor to baritone to falsetto without even the slightest need for a gradual change, and without any external indication that he was shifting his voice to an entirely new range. The man was simply blessed with an overflow of heavenly gifts. What a shame God took him from us at such an early age (helped in large part by his being short and having a pot belly), but at least he merited to die in his first and only visit to the Holy Land. As an indication of how popular and beloved his music was at the time, a remarkable crowd of 20,000 people (in 1933 Palestine) attended his funeral, despite his sudden death in a land he was just visiting.

Rosenblatt is truly the master. All students of singing should listen to Rosenblatt and follow his example.

Hard to believe the quality of his work and time invested in those years when the Talkies and voice was so crude....
Nobody will ever be as good!!!!!
So sad that he died at such a young age.
He made it to see the Holy Land and died.
Could someone post other material from this great man!!!!

This is wonderful to both see and hear. Rosenblatt imho is the "yardstick" by which all other hazzans are measured - he has no equal !!!

Beautiful voice ... and what a dynamic and dramatic range he had! The parts where he went into pianissimo falsetto, then back to full voice, gave me goosebumps.

Looks like it comes from a VHS tape. Maybe this one: www.amazon.com/Great-Cantors-Cinema-Yossele-Rosenblatt/dp/B004KMZZJU . Or maybe this: www.worldcat.org/title/legendary-voices-cantors-of-yesteryear/oclc/41480179 . If you search "yossele rosenblatt vhs" there seem to be a few. Similarly, if you search "yosse rosenblatt dvd" there are a few, such as: www.jewishfilm.org/Catalogue/films/greatcantors.htm
