Olivio, all of us viewers are fascinated by your style to explain difficult things so smart and easy 🤗
You're one of the best instructors on CZcams. Affinity Photo and Designer would be much more difficult to use without your tuts. See you on FB.
The way I used smart objects in Photoshop was for simplifying layer management when painting without doing a destructive merge. You could then go back in and edit the individual layers of a character on a separate file without all the other files getting in the way. This way you also saved on performance because smart layers reduced the overall workload of the file you were currently working on, making it run faster. This often happened because of my reliance on adjustment layers and clipping masks.
One thing that prevents Affinity's embedded document system to be as efficient for me is the lack of a "create embedded document" directly in the Layers panel like it's done in Photoshop. To achieve the same results I would have to export the layers I want onto a new document, save it, and then import that file back into the original document. Plus, it creates an extra file on your computer, which doesn't happen with "create smart object" in Photoshop. I really hope the dev team will add this option now when they have made so many great improvements to the system.
Yes, i would love to see a in-software solution too, that can turn any layer into an embedded layer :)
Thank you, Olivio
Affinity Photo wouldn't be what it is for me without your Tutorials and your work.
And thank you for letting me join your Super Fan Community on Facebook.
BRILLIANT!!! That was excatly what I was looking for! Thanks
Thank you, Olivio for another awesome tutorial. This was much needed. A crystal clear process!
Another awesome video! Exactly what I needed. 😀
Olivio you're both great at what you do and great to listen. Soothing and relaxing voice, plus your videos really make me want to learn more. Thanks :-)
Amazing Mister Olivio. Thanks for your classes, i´m learning a lot.
Fantastisch. The idea of using embedding then slicing as a one-to-many is great! I sometimes deal with 60 or so photos that have to get the same design treatments. Thanks so much!
Thank you Olivio Sarikas.
Thanx Olivio a lot, I am so glad I found your channel. Keep going to make your super powerful content! Respect from Russia!
thanks a lot! this kind of layers are to much usefull for my workflow!
I try to get back to my iPad or Mac so I can comment because I’m usually watching while I’m on the treadmill. This was so good. You almost make me wish I had a “professional” reason to learn these things. But I’m “retired,” so I mostly enjoy learning. I took Photoshop and Illustrator courses at a tech college years ago, and really loved them. I guess all I’m saying is how much I love your tutorials. You are always showing us things that are amazing, and I’m really happy to be in your new Facebook group. Thanks you for everything you do!
Thank you. There is always a reason to learn and improve on what you love to do :) Isn't that be best reason of all :)
Great video. This is a keeper and very useful. I think I will use for facebook posts.
wow! Amazing tutorial Olivio, pretty well explained! I'm learning a bit about Affinity Photo haha thank u!
thanks for the tutorial! I do find creating smart objects in Photoshop way faster, I hope affinity update this
thank you soooo much - your video helped a LOT. !!!! Thank you. ❤
Outstanding ! Thanks !
Thank you. Life and time saver.
Thanks Olivio, your videos make me want to study and work with AP every day.
Thank you, Riccardo. That is so nice to read :)
Thank you. I have learned so much!
Thanks Olivio, what a great work again!!!!! You should be paid by @affinity photo or at least cooperate with them somehow. Because you explain much more in detail than Affinity by itself dose. Your community is so thankful.
wow, that's amazing - thank you so much for sharing! :)
This is such a useful tutorial!!
very helpful! thank you!
thank you very much for this tutorial
this is amazing tutorial sir. i bought affinity month ago. still new working on this software. ppl said this software is powerfull like adobe product. and i though just only photoshop can do smart object. and this answer my question.
THANK YOU!
Danke viel mal Olivio!
This is a keeper technique I will implement in my future work.
Don't forget the whiskers
Thank you!
really professional

thank you very very muchhhhhh!
Hi Olivio. Are these mock-ups still available please? I’ve subscribed and joined the FB group. Thank you. Brilliant tutorial by the way 👍
yes they are 😍 You can find them here: sarikasat.gumroad.com/l/AgSfd
Amazing explanation, Sir. Just curious, if I export the Affinity Photo format into a PSD file. Could it be open in Adobe Photoshop? Not just the smart layer but also the adjustment layer. Currently I'm starting to create my own mockup and sell it online. Thank you.
How can I love Affinity Photo even more? Easy, watch Olivio's videos!
Thank you :)
Hi Olivio, I think this is the method I want to look into for making sublimation designs on a latte mug. It seems to work like Photoshop smart objects. Do you think this method would work to lay out a square design and then move it over to a latte mug template?
Great video! If I duplicate my mock up, how do I "unclone" the embedded image so I can have separate photos with different images. When I duplicated my mock up, each smart object is changed when I change one. I want to keep them separate. Do you know how to do that?
Thanks for the helpful video!
Is it also possible to Export multiple Layers of a smart object? If I create a mockup and ad 20 different Layers to the embedded smart object - how can I export them alltogether?
Hi Olivio, it's super, thank you very mutch for this tuto.
I say every day :
Hi Olivio-This was the best video out there for Affinity-I have a few questions-I have affinity designer-it appears I can do the same on the designer as shown here on photo-is that correct? Also, if I subscribe to facebook channel, will I still get the pack? I see this was last year-I am trying to do the smart images as you did with the dog and photo using a gift tag image but I am having lots of issues.
Дякую! Thank you!
Thank you, Olivio. Quick question: When you duplicate a Smart Layer and change the embedded image on the second, BOTH files change. How can we duplicate and have the embedded file of the duplicate point to a different file or an embedded layer we can update independent of the source layer?
Does this work well for text scaling as well. I wanted to make a logo. Would embedded layers work well for this?
THANK YOU! I just happened to need this today! I thought I was going to have to abandon Affinity
Happy i could help, Will :)
Just like magic...Many thanks!
Learning so much, thank you. I would like to use a mock-up in a film strip. Maybe showing age advancement of children; using different photos as they grow. Could you show us how this is done, please?
For that you would need a photo software. You can try the free Davinci Resolve Beta. Simply line up the faces in every photo and blend them from photo to photo. there is also software online that will morph the faces from photo to photo.
How to get all your skills in Affinity to my head? 🤔 You are awesome, you are my the best teacher 👌🏻
Don't worry, i don't remember them all myself either. Luckily we can always look them up on my own channel ;)
Of courrse, you didn't show the important part on how you aligned the embedded photo to fit the mockup. That's awesome!
A feature never understand but I got it now thanks... But why dose it not work in design when you edit it don't change embedded object but if you save file in photo and open in design it works is this a Bug 🐛
i want to mock up mu photo with another one how can i do it, its all raw photo
It works with flat images but can you do something similar with warped images? I'd like to swap an image into an image that has been warped, but apply the existing warp to the new image. I can't work out how to acheive this in Affinity Photo.
hi rocknets, AP does not have live warping at the moment. so you can't do that. I would love to see that too though :)
Yes. It really needs non destructive distortion effects that let you swap out images.

Did you explain how to use the quick mask yet?
Do you mean the selection Brush? I don't think i made a dedicated video about that yet. But i use it in many of my videos.
thank you, but that's not working well with curvy mockups
Can we also link layers to an image file the same way like in Photoshop?
I'm not sure what you mean by "link" but you can put as many layers as you want inside a embeded document :)
@@OlivioSarikas In Photoshop you can Embed layers or use a direct link to a image on your harddisk - In that way when the image is changed the image in the Photoshop file will automatically update too.
this is what I need in Affinity Photo
One thing that annoys me in export persona, is to disable EACH "slice" manually in the list. You can't just mark them all und disable!
Is it possible to put editable text in an embedded layer?
yes, now this is possible :) embed a ap file and there you can have text and any other content
@@OlivioSarikas Awesome, thank you so much for your quick and useful response and your wonderful tutorial. As a new Affinity Designer and Affinity Photo user, I have no doubt I’ll be watching more of your videos and joining your community :)
When i use perspective filter on embedded layer. It turns into pixel layer
in that case you need to use the "live filter" for perspective. not the perspective tool :)
Someone should make a script that automates the saving part, so you can just right click then embed layer
Anyone having problems with clean and sweet images edited by affinity saved as 100 quality JPEG only for them to become crunchy like they are over sharpened when uploaded to Facebook.
Try using a lower compression, like 85, so Facebook is less likely to re-compress the images for you. Also try a lower pixel resolution.
Unfortunately embedded layers don't come close to the functionality of Smart Objects in Photoshop. I own the Affinity suite and wish they would cater for the pro market. Unfortunately, I use Photoshop at work, but wish I didn't have to.
Sorry Olivio, never have and never will be a Facebook user.
That's ok. At least we can stay connected on CZcams :)
