A friend of mine is really big guard player. He's got lore worked out for his regiment, he named his tanks, the whole nine yards.
I haven't seen him as hyped as he is for these and the new Cadians in years. He's gonna have a blast with all the new stuff that's coming.
That’s so cool to read I love people who really love there army and get excited to expand. And naming tanks is so good.
Old models are never a wasted effort. They add flair to your army. My orks have ork models stretching all the way back to rogue trader, and people are always asking questions about them. Special little touches to give some intrigue to the horde

Another reason is to why you use contrast paints is Yeah it's like a wash and a paint at the same time however when you're layering up you don't have to work as hard to get into all the nooks and crannies look some crannies and it gives you a nice bass coat and a map of where to put the highlights.

I've also wanted to do a Scion army with Kasrkin minis for a long time. When these guys come out in their own box, I think I'll finally pull the trigger and actually do it. I want to mix in some of the un-helmeted Scion and new Cadian heads that I have left over for a bit of variety. I'm really looking forward to getting underway with it, so the minis can't come out soon enough!
Same. My Guard army will be updated to be all Kasrkins. I already have 100s of regular Cadian infantry. I need a break

Starting with a base of contrast or similar is a great way of getting a squad table top ready before you start doing all the details :)
10-30 men done in a day and ready to play. Worry about details later :)
Also, collecting older metal models is NEVER a waste of time. There is just a different feeling when prepping, painting, and playing with metal minis. They also have such a different style to them compared to the new plastic versions. Just with like the poster boys, I find that even if old Space Marines often look the same and have the same pose they have so much character and that’s something I just can’t get in my plastic Space Marines.

Definitely not wasted effort, those metal models will give your army a special flavor and uniqueness mixed with the new ones. I bought Metal Gaunt today even though he doesn’t even have rules anymore.

Great video, this will all translate over when I do a HUGE batch of Imperial Infantry and Starship Trooper Marines for our Traveller and Stargrave games. (And I've got a huge amount of old lead, love them as much as the newer stuff!!!)

The new plastic Kasrkins look nice, but the old metal models had so much charm. Might just be my nostalgia goggles, though.

As someone who likes collecting, when something you like is updated it just makes it better because you can see where it's been and where it is now.

Well done! As always! So quick and easy to follow. Not sure if the camo is worth the extra effort, but I'm a sucker for a bit more glow on the plasma pistol. Props to GW for sending you kits regullary, well deserved ;) Kinda feels like the 365 is coming along nicely.
I feel the same thing about the 365. And yes getting sent the kits is a life saver.

So how would you paint a vehicle? Would you skip the contrast step? A video of painting both a unit and vehicle might be helpful to show how someone could paint and entire army and different, or same, steps necessary. Keep up the great work. 👍🏻
I will be doing all the new guard vehicles when they come out so don’t worry.
Love your videos. The low effort with great results approach using contrasts and easy layering is exactly my jam.

Because you meant "He barks commands" I never understood that: You command a unit/army have advanced communication and take off your helmet to shout something to your comrades risking getting a headshot.
I've always avoided helmetless heads like the devil avoids holy water😁

Y'know, if you're going to paint over the contrast with a regular base/layer paint, you might as well start with a darker contrast color (as it's largely pointless to get the "right" color as you intend to cover it almost completely) from the start and save yourself some time and eliminate the all over wash step almost entirely.
You could even apply the contrast color with a lot less care, seeing as you intend to cover all the flat/raised portions, to reduce your overall work time. Work smarter, not harder
I get what your saying. But I’m very comfortable with my process. And I like the results. Plus there isn’t always a darker tone. I use the shading to pull it down and make the layering easier.

Hey really like the simple yet effective approach. How would you make them a notch grim darker? Rhinox hide battle dmg? And a bit of dark Brown wash?
Yea exactly. Just some weathering and chipping.
Man might get some paint them up in ww2 German colors.
They would look cool in greys.
just asking out of curiosity what is the point of the contrast paints if you going to layer over them? it will give them a different shade/coloring?
It alway you to get the basecoats on extremely fast and your not painting over the whole area with the layer all the shadow and recessed areas will still have the contrast in it.
Nice. Wanted to get the box too but couldn't get hold of it unfortunately. Do you think that the camo cloak speedpaint is a good substitute for creed camo?
Yep that speed paint is a close match. Maybe try an independent store for a copy.

If I have the bigger older Seraphim Sepia shade do I need to do something different with it?
Emmm no. It’s just the result will be darker and when you run out you can get another to follow on with the army.
What's the base size, I can't find the info online for some reason and want to consider printing some while I wait

I don’t drill barrels. Just leave them as they are.
Now can the Sgt have the plasma gun and the power sword?
