    What college are you going to?”

    For me as someone who's NB and Bi, The attraction to men and women has different vibes. I'm attracted to masculinity and femininity differently and other non binaries also hit a different spot. I'm bi and not pan because in my mind, the attraction varies based off gender. That's my reasoning behind it, others may interpret themselves differently.

      I am the exact same way! I would recommend looking into the term omnisexual because what you're describing sounds a lot like that -- I identify as both Omni and bi since omni falls under the bi umbrella.
      For anyone wondering, basically:
      - omnisexual = attraction to ALL genders but with gender playing a role in attraction (like having preferences or attraction to different genders feeling different)
      - pansexual -- attraction to people regardless of gender
      - bisexual -- attraction to more than one gender (or genders similar to and different to your own -- definitions vary)
      Anyway yeah! Ofc no hate intended towards any groups, this is just what I see the definitions as and it's helped me a lot to find a fitting label, which is omni!

    • @randommeowthekitty6482
      @randommeowthekitty6482 Před 3 lety +5

      So I am trying to educate myself a bit more
      As a bisexual, how would you describe bisexuality, pansexuality, and omnisexuality? Along with that, how would you explain the terms biromantic, panromantic, and omniromantic?
      It's fine if you don't know or don't care to answer

    • @mileyhanna6987
      @mileyhanna6987 Před 3 lety +15

      @@randommeowthekitty6482 I can explain! Bisexual is being sexually attracted to two or more genders instead of just one. Pansexual is being attracted to all genders, but differs from bisexuality in that pansexuals are genderblind: it's about the personality, not what's in your pants. Omnisexual is being attracted to two or more/all genders but having a preference of one gender over another. And as a bonus that falls under the same umbrella, Polysexual is being attracted to multiple but not all genders. Biromatic, Panromantic, Omniromantic and Polyromantic are all the same, but the attraction is purely romantic and not sexual.
      I love your initiative, and it's great that your willing to learn about the community! Thanks for asking!

      Also literally every person is descended from how many millions of ancestors, who all had to get together for them to be made exactly the way they are (so not "two people" lol). And not being attracted to the opposite sex (or being attracted to the same gender) doesn't mean you can't have children with them as it doesn't make you impotent or infertile.
      So, basically, due to comphet and the expectation to procreate (plus denial and a lot of queer people in history probably not knowing or acknowledging they were), most people would have had children regardless of their actual sexualities. Which means that everyone is also alive due to millions of queer ancestors who had a huge part in making them. By this logic, people should thank them all for their existence as well.
      It's ultimately irrelevant though, because how does being descended from straight people undermine current LGBTQ+ people's identities and their existence?!

Obviously I have no way of knowing if that's true but it might be why they used B. It certainly isn't because none of the other letters would work (G- giant corporations, L - large corporations; lazy corporations, T - I can't think of one off hand but I would be just upset about T being erased, A - asshole corporations (would be just as upset about A's erasure as well)). The point is it was a choice someone made. Maybe they made it because billionaire corporations was the first thing they thought of and it had nothing to do with which letter they were changing. Maybe the did it because they don't feel like the B belongs.

The hundreds and thousands of letters and soliloquies we have found written to "lovers" of the same sex describing just this, many of whom did have children with their spouse. The textual documentation from the 1500's, 1600's and so forth showing it was normal for men and women to have homosexual relationships up until and following the point of marriage that eventually became not the norm at least in part because of the Catholic church and similar foreboding entities.

    Re. bisexuals being transphobic if they don't adopt pansexual as a label instead - many bisexuals also include nonbinary people in their adoption of the label bisexual as well, and movements have been made within the community since the 90s to widen the definition of bisexual as 'attracted to more than one gender' or 'attracted to two or more genders' rather than 'attracted to men and women' to be inclusive of a vast diversity of gender identity and expression (but still includes 'attraction to men and women' under that umbrella). On the other hand, pansexual is defined as 'attraction regardless of gender' or 'gender is not a factor in who I'm attracted to', which is distinct in and of itself. There is some crossover between the two, and some may fluctuate between labels, but for others the difference between them is very important and stark. The idea that bisexuals are inherently transphobic for using that label, or that pansexuality is just essentially 'the trans inclusive version of bisexuality', just totally shits on both identities and the people who exist under them.
    Anyway, looove the video, as always, and I'm going to take my bi self and go back to sweet sweet invisibility now 😋

    • @Anarchasuccubus
      @Anarchasuccubus Před 3 lety +18

      I identify as both bi and pan, because sometimes I attracted to aspects related to a person's gender identity/lack thereof or expression (which is my bi side) and sometimes the attraction has nothing to do with the person's gender, with the most common example being passionate geeky types (which I consider me being pan.) I was a closeted "bi" back in the 90's when I was still figuring things out, but always thought the Kensey scale was...well, useful for what it as but woefully inadequate, and the community didn't feel welcoming back then.
      Recently, a friend of mine suggested I look into abrosexuality (a label used to describe fluctuations in sexual preferences) and that might technically apply but I'm rather attached to being both bi and pan. I didn't feel comfortable coming out until I started learning about pansexuality, because bi sort of fit but didn't describe everything.

I'm beer (I like beer 😆), married and have two sons, but that doesn't change my sexual attraction. I am still attracted to women (including trans women). Some stubborn discussions just melt my brain in a way I am not sure what I should label myself. I'll stick with beer for now.

      This is precisely why it took me so long to feel comfortable identifying as bi. Because especially when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s, gender was mostly considered binary by the general population and the consensus was that you had to have an equal attraction to both men and women to be bisexual. They literally used to say in books and magazines and advice columns that it was normal for heterosexual girls to have crushes on each other and even fool around but that didn't mean you were lesbian or bi if you had any level of preference towards men (and presumably if you preferred women, then you were just a confused lesbian, I guess).

      YES! This a thousand times. Especially if the person in question grew up in a bigoted environment. Of course you’re going to be more attracted to the oposite sex as a bi person in that kind of environment. It’s just unfortunate but very much needed subconscious survival skills.

      Appreciate this comment! Though I don't really know why you divided nonbinary people up into 'AMAB' and 'AFAB'? It isn't super great to do that when it isn't directly relevant. Nonbinary people are just nonbinary. Mentioning assigned gender at birth can come across like putting us into binary categories if it is brought up when not relevant. Maybe what you were trying to say is 'Nonbinary people in straight passing relationships'

In their eyes bisexual/pansexual people can ease their way out by just deciding to straight pass (since there are also much more straight people available) and shouldn't take away the remaining gays from "real" gays. That's two reasons. Other reasons could be that they were hurt by a bisexual or cheated on by one. I mean it can happen in any relationship, that's how life is. Another reason is bad education and bigotry like the other person said. I hope I could help you out. ^^

    Also do you know how hard it is to find a lesbian or bi girl that you actually like and want a relationship with at the same time that she wants a relationship with you? The pool for gay relationships is just way smaller and theres a lot of girls that WANT relationships that already are in relationships, alot don't want to be in relationships at all, and then you also have to like the girl that's single and wants to be in a relationship. At the end of the day, I think it just boils down to semantics. There are people like me that get hung up on the term bisexual because 'bi' literally means two, so technically bisexual means being attracted to/being open to dating two genders and there are more than two genders. Then there are people who don't get hung up on that. I have nothing against anyone who is comfortable with the term bisexual and who identifies as such. I've never met a bisexual that wasn't open to dating NB and gender-fluid people. I've met some that just denied our existence but I've also met straight, gay, cis and trans people that deny our existance. It was totally unrelated to them being bisexual.
    At the end of the day Pansexual and bisexual people face the same bigotry from both straight and gay people. I myself can not even count how many times I've been called confused, indecisive, greedy, or, my favorite is when people accuse me of pretending to be into women too just to get the 'menfolk' all excited about all of those threesomes that we'd obviously be having. *eye roll* .... I've also had gay women tell me that I'm just gay and too chicken shit to just fully come out of the closet but I honestly think that is more common for bisexual and pansexual men/people in bodies that appear outwardly male to others, to get accused of. All of it is sad and infuriating and frankly confusing because why does anyone else care? How does another person's sexuality or gender identity even affect anyone else? Me identifying as NB and Pansexual literally affects nobody but me so it's odd that so many people are bothered by it.
