I gotta say, the joke about losing your autistic status if you didn’t like the train level actually got me to laugh a bit irl, and that’s something I don’t usually expect when going into a video CZcams recommends me from a channel I haven’t heard of before; good stuff all-around
As someone who has autism myself, I do like Kalimari Desert. I think its the mix of the nostalgia that I have for it, and, besides, the train is one of the most unique gimmick for a Mario Kart track :)
Is that actually why I always liked trains? Because of my autism?

I can't lie, Bowser's Castle is leagues ahead of all the other tracks in this game. It's also the only one that hasn't aged like milk lol
I am currently working on my own MK64 track ranking and I want to thank you for being one of the ones to inspire me lol. I come back to this video from time to time because I find it both interesting and hilarious.😂
I’m sorry but Toad’s Turnpike is a masterpiece. The lovely music and atmosphere fit incredibly well with the theming and the layout favours the cars incredibly well. And yes, the cars are fantastic obstacles that actively go along with you during the track yet limit your routes so they make the layout themselves which is fantastic.
Honestly whenever I have to talk about Mario Kart 64 tracks I always have to look at it from an objective standpoint without taking into account how they actually play in Mario Kart 64, because if I had to do that they'd all pretty much be in F Tier lol. I will forever be Banshee Boardwalk's biggest defender from a visual and layout perspective, but even I can't deny how absolutely miserable it is to play in this game. Personally though, I prefer to be infuriated more than I prefer to be bored, which is why I despise tracks like Moo Moo Farm and Kalimari Desert more than ones like Sherbet Land.
The song of DK's Jungle Parkway infuriates me because it could have so easily been one of, if not THE best song in the game if they actually bothered to... you know.... finish the song.
The 2nd to last corner in royal raceway keeps me up a night
N64 Rainbow Road gives a new meaning to the phrase "7 minutes in heaven"
Frappe Snowland/Sherbet Land got a remix using live instruments in Mario & Sonic. Highly recommend.

Personally my favorite track in the game is Kalimari desert its such a good track.
Honestly my biggest mario kart 64 hot take, is that I love banshee boardwalk. I love the pitch black night sky, the lanturns above the track, the eerie music. Tbh its more about the vibes to me, the layout is fine but the eerie vibes elevate it way higher. Probably the closest we will ever get to a actual creepy mario kart course.
Toad's Turdpike is so bad. Especially this version. I could not believe his ranking of it. Wish 8 got mushroom city instead.

Ok, seriously, Mario Kart 64’s Bowser’s Castle is hands down one of my favorites in the series. (Though my favorite still goes to Double Dash’s Bowser’s Castle.) And even the random details like the thwomp behind bars just elevate the track’s uniqueness. What did he do? Why is he there? I dunno, but it’s unnerving to think about, and it just adds to the track’s atmosphere.
Also, I’d ALMOST agree with you on Mario Kart 64 having the best battle mode if Double Dash’s didn’t exist. Though, the only thing it’s really missing is having the other players turn into Bomb-Buggies, so Mario Kart 64 does have that going for it. I do wish Nintendo would add a toggle for removing time in Battle Mode in the last update for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe like how they added the custom item settings for example.

As someone who loves watching Schaffrillas Productions, yeah this is a better ranking
The most I ever grew up with Mario Kart 64 as a kid was through its various Retro GP courses remakes in DS, Wii and 7, and had only played the debut game those tracks came from a few years ago. Despite growing up with the later (much more refined) 3D entries in the series, I still like MK64 well enough and respect its innovation and long-lasting impact on future titles.
Super Circuit’s definitely the best of the first 3 entries, but MK64’s the most replayable to me out of them purely because the turbo drift gets you so much speed and I love power-drifting like a maniac in these games. My ranking’s gonna seem pretty wack compared to most other players besides from the top best and worst picks of 64’s courses, probably even more-so than Schaff Product’s list, but it is what it is and I don’t mind if people here grill my choices.
(Also pro-tip for this game: holding a drift for too long if the Control Stick’s in the opposite direction you’re turning will make your character spin-out. Better to do multiple quick mini-turbo drifts than a few long ones on the big wide turns).
* A Tier
Bowser Castle (Top 3 BC course for sure, it needs to come back again for the next major Mario Kart).
Banshee Boardwalk (My favourite haunted/ spooky-themed track in the entire series. Excellent presentation and tough but fair difficulty makes it a blast to race through).
Koopa Troopa Beach (Top 5 best Mushroom Cup course of all time and best beach course in Mario Kart, done even better in 7. Incredible presentation and great beginner design. This should’ve been in the BCP and could’ve referenced Sunshine Airport in its background).
* B Tier
Royal Raceway (The best raceway/ circuit track of the game and exploring the Mario 64 castle grounds is cool, but the 8 remake’s better despite the blocked-off castle).
Yoshi Valley (A rare instance where I just prefer the original version of a course over its remake despite the latter being technically superior. I love the kookiness of the whole track, right down to the absurdly long pit, and it’s kinda sad how that’s been completely taken away in 8).
Choco Mountain (A surprisingly consistently good course throughout the whole series that gradually improves with each iteration. It’s not much of a looker in 64 and DS, but I love the sense of verticality it offers and the risky cliff turn near the end in 150cc. Really wish they kept that last aspect in the BCP remake).
DK Jungle Park Way (Not the best DK track but still pretty good overall. Needs a modern remake the most with the giant ramp being prime glider material).
Wario Stadium (Definitely one of the most controversial choices, but I quite enjoy this one. This is what Rainbow Road should’ve been; long but actually tricky and interesting. I adore the atmosphere of this one too: it really makes you feel like you’re driving in a real dirt-track arena with the crowds flashing pictures at the race, only rivalled by DS’ iteration of Wario Stadium).
Frappe Snowland (A fairly good snow track for the most part with good obstacles, but the final section’s kinda lame and the red shells always hits the narrow walls).
Kalimari Desert (Probably the most overhyped MK64 course, in its original form anyway. It’s still good, but it’s just a bit too barren besides from the giant train. I get it’s a western desert, but even just some hazardous tumbleweeds and Pokeys on and off-road would’ve make this course way better. 7 and 8 improved this one quite a bunch).
* C Tier
Mario Raceway (One of the better Mario Circuits in the series, though it has a bit too much off-road and not enough actual road. The Wii remake’s better).
Moo Moo Farm (Short and sweet, though it would’ve been better if the bridge layers were drivable).
Luigi Raceway (One of the better opening courses in Mario Kart, and done better in 7).
Toad’s Turnpike (The Mirror Mode version’s the best one since it’s almost like an alpha Mushroom City, but it’s definitely not great. Still better than the 8 remake).
Sherbet Land (The Dry Dry Desert of MK64. Perfectly OK, but nothing special).
* F Tier
Rainbow Road (Undoubtedly the worst Rainbow Road ever made and one of the most boring MK courses of all time. The 8 remake’s way better without a doubt, but it should’ve been a 2 lap track).

@mariedonnelly, yeah, the remake is incredible, definitely better than the god-awful original, that one was way too long for its own good, I sure am glad we can agree that the remake of N64 Rainbow Road is fantastic

Thank you so much for criticizing Mario Kart 64's controls. I despise how loose the controls feel in this game and, for me, they're so hard to get used to. I also think the track design is a VERY mixed bag of good and awful.
7:18 I’ve been hearing that a lot about Banshee Boardwalk and honestly, I agree. I’m starting to think that maybe Banshee Boardwalk might have that same “Negative Emotional Aura” that Wet Dry World from Mario 64 has.

Royal Raceway is fantastic cause you can travel in the castle grounds, you didn’t even mention it. But you put it in the top half, so I’m satisfied.

Toad's Turnpike is even worse in Extra mode (this is basically the mirror mode of this game). The cars/trucks go towards you, which makes them go from easy to dodge to really hard and unfun (and hitting a single one will result in a computer getting really far ahead)

Bowser's Castle in Mario Kart 64 is not too fun for me, after trying to get first places in every race, I consider it one of the hardest because the thwomps gave me trouble at first and I worry about falling off both of the bridges, and even after you get past the thwomps and bridges, the CPUs still rubberband, it's still a pretty cool track.
Not to be mean, I liked your ranking. But I do disagree with some of it. I agree with toads turnpike. But i think wario Stadium and Rainbow road could be swapped, at least rainbow road looks amazing, even though it is longer. But Wario Stadiums theming doesn’t always seem to fit well, or maybe Choco mountain should be ranked higher because it is not boring to play on and it sounds amazing. Royal raceway has the peaches castle Easter egg which that already puts in into b teir. I agree with everything else

And yeah I honestly agree with Schaffrillas's ranking more than this one.
I think the worst part of the video is how little you drift XD. The amount of times you complain about spinning out but then I look and you aren't drifting makes me feel like I'm missing out on an obvious joke, especially considering how it would fix other issues you have like not being able to catch up to the CPUs in some courses, or turns being unsatisfying.
That said most of the points you make here are actually very good- and combined with schaff's video it makes me want to jump on the "rank mario kart courses" bandwagon that may be spreading through youtube soon. Solid comedy, too.
...I should probably play this game again to properly list my thoughts, but I'd probably move Choco Mountain and Toad's Turnpike up a couple of rankings, and Frappe Snowland down. I also remember enjoying the twists of Royal raceway more than luigi's circuit, but that might just be my innate bias against first tracks due to being a veteran player.
I feel like that I spin out more when I DO drift than when I don’t. But it’s most likely more of a skill issue on my end.

The rubber banding in this game is pretty bad. However, I’m referring to a select few tracks where it’s especially easy to fall behind even if you make no mistakes.
What is the "rubber banding"?
@@SuperPlacido1 Rubber Banding is a mechanic where the game makes the computers catch up to you when your in first place to make sure you don’t get too far ahead of the computer players.

its Dk's Jungle parkway, but spooky. for me, the turns are fine, but probably because ive spent dozens of hours on this game.
14. sherbet land. im suprised that the ice physics are actually managable.
13. choco mountain. my main problem is hitting the side and coming to a complete halt.
12. moo moo farm. i mean, its an oval.

1. rainbow road. *ANY SLANDER OF N64 RAINBOW ROAD WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.* first off, the reason its so long is because its an endurance test, and it has quite possibly the easiest ultra shortcut in the series. just jump off the side. theres even a spiral version thats harder and saves more time. and if you still cant wait that long, you can just hit youself with a shell, go flying off the track, lakitu will get hella confused amd skip a lap for you. also, the music and asthetic is the best in the series, hands down.

It's a cool track only remade in Tour which is suitable for the penultimate Wave 1 slot and we also needed more beach tracks since BCP only got LA Laps
