Diamond T was founded by the son of a shoe and boot manufacturer (C.A.Tilt) in 1905 in Chicago and was purchased White Motor Company in 1958. REO was purchased by White Motor Company in1957. In 1967 White Motor Company merged Diamond T and REO TRUCKS to make Diamond REO trucks and in1975 Diamond REO was shut down and later in 75 the plant burnt down.

Hank, 2020 was a horrible year. My wife, who had been ill for a long time, went into a nursing home in March of that year and passed away there in July. Due to Covid I was unable to be with her all that time. Along the way, one of your videos popped up on my Facebook newsfeed. I started watching yours, then also others that you mentioned. They really helped me through one of the darkest periods of my life. I enjoy watching you and Wiley and your escapades. You both have a great sense of humor and are very entertaining. Thank you! Hank, listen up... next time your out of fuel like this was, loosen the lines at the injectors and while its running on starting fluid, the air will work itself out and you just keep tightening each line up as you see that fuel start dripping real good, It don't need to be flowing, just most of air out... It don't pick its air out of the lines cause its pressure from air not wanting to go through the injectors. You can't hurt that engine running on straight starting fluid... ask old Peg from Spirit Lake up in canada. It might take ten or fifteen minutes to get some of that air out but once it has two or three cylinders a working, its gonna prime itself. I rebuilt my last diesel engine, a cummins for my brother as he had to have his rig a running bad so I did most all the work crippled as I am in four days.. from tear down and new crankshaft and cam, bearings, liners and all, back in his rig and driving... four days so I just might of learned something wrenching heavy equipment for steady twenty years before doing other stuff as well. I did keep turning wrenches as you just can't stop when its all ya really know. Them shutters on the front is to keep some heat in the engine in cold weather as diesels don't run so well cold... you want to stretch the fuel, pour the strained out for chunks old engine oil.... it will run on it just fine, no extra smoke or other. Ask someone that you trust to explain it to you. Decent weather (not dead winter anchorage ak) it will crank and run on straight used oil just as good.... go find out and your going to find out I am right. It has to go through filters for that engine as straight oil or diesel otherwise ain't right unless filtered on any diesel engine

Kysor radiator shutter 🙂 Spray a decent penetrant/rust-remover onto all the shutter bearings and work them back and forth until the slats each move freely. Clean-up the contacts on the temperature switch and treat them to some dielectric grease to keep them sweet. If it still doesn’t work, check the resistance at the switch with a multimeter, that’s probably the only other failure point. It was designed for use in Arctic conditions so it should be fine your side of Canada 🙂

This truck's maker also has a pretty significant tie to the music industry. In 1984, a group of musicians got together in Tennessee, and after a few years paying their dues, they signed a record deal in 1990. Between 1991, and 2006, they had 32 hit singles, five of which hit number one. Their name? Diamond Rio!

My mother had fond memories of a Rio car in the UK that her father ran in the 1920s, but the family lost a considerable amount in the thirties and the Rio was long gone. Later, he had a small UK car, but had moved from their home of mother's fond memory in the country. Whenever I see a reference to Rio, it causes fond flashes of memory of her words about that car.
