- Hi All! Hope the new year has started off excellent for you. This video is walkthrough/breakdown of our current @WeAreElektron Digitakt setup we're using to write a set jams/songs for January. We've had the Digitakt for several years and have also enjoyed the process, even with the limiations.

As for your stuck note problem: it looks like you've configured the minifreak on the 'auto channel' this means when you hit a note on the minifreak and switch tracks on the digitakt before releasing the key on the minifreak your typhon never recieves the midi note-off event, because that is now being send somewhere else...
So what you need to do to not make this happen is always release the keys on your minifreak before switching tracks on the digitakt. If you make a mistake, which happens to me all the time, the quick solution is to hit stop on the digitakt twice. It will send a all-notes-off event on all configured midi tracks.

That was nice, mate, Appreciated the deeper dive into the MIDI setup on the Digitakt - something that I've been putting off playing with for while. Just seems a little too daunting at the moment. That being said, did have some success getting the DT to talk to my NDLR MIDI controller, and I've been using that as my MIDI part generator. What I do like about the NDLR is the multitude of modulation options available to me. Couple that to the Digi and I have an incredibly versatile setup that's good for those rare moments of inspo where I definitely don't want to spend ages programming a track.
Thanks Bottle! I hear ya on the ‘daunting’. The Digitakt isn’t too bad honestly. Not like the Octatrack 🤣. My suggestion, if you’re interested, would be to grab one synth and control it with the Digitakt until it’s super easy for you. Also get a few custom samples loaded on the DT. The Elektron Transfer app is pretty easy to use nowadays so you can just load samples. Just my 2 cents ❤️
Dope setup I really like the typhon for sound and the fx are great yes, there is noise if you don’t use a battery power bank.
Typhon is an awesome box. The FX are superb as well!
I just picked up a Digitakt and this is just the video I needed. Also own a Cobalt and a few volcas (the gateway drug of the synth world) so it's awesome to see the Digitakt can work well with everything.
I own an SL MKiii and really adore the arp on it so would be interested to know if the Digitakt syncs well with other sequencers?
Yeah you should be able to get the SL synced up. You might have to clock the SL to the Digitakt though. Although you might be able to have the Digitakt clock to the SL, but if it’s going to be the main sequencer in the setup, might as well make it the master clock. And yes, love those novation arps!

Sounds awesome Tefty! HNY to you and Meems! Now that Digitakt has song mode, could you do a video on live recording midi into saved chained patterns so that longer than 64 step sequences can be played without having to lose resolution? ✌🙇

To a question I want to ask, If I own the MPC one, TR-8s would the Syntakt or the Digitakt be wiser to purchase? I know you have both I want to get into elektron boxes I'm having a hard time choosing. Thanks

To answer your question … it really depends 🤣
If you plan on having the MPC as the master clock and in the mix of everything, then I’d go with the Syntakt personally because the extra midi channels won’t be used and the MPC can cover those sampling duties.
However, If you’re looking for an alternate master sequencer to change things up and maybe make the MPC just a sound module to trigger some samples/synths, then I’d go Digitakt.

The step sequencer on the MPC One is a bit rubbish compared to the Elektron sequencer :) I find it weird that what you can see in the grid view doesn't show in the step sequencer - is it like two sequencers per track? I find it weird to work with.

The step sequencer in the One is pretty useless. I can't figure out what features it has that the regular tracks don't. I never use it in mine - if I want real step sequencing I use my SQ-1 for CV or my MonoStation for MIDI.
I was having exactly the same problem in my live setup. So the Typhon had to go unfortunately...
Hi Tefty. Can you explain how do you feed Typhon with midi, I can clearly see midi out of the DT and split cable going toward Modal Synths, midi in of DT comes from the MiniFreak. It's not clear how the Typhon and the MF were fed with midi from the DT. Thank you.
Was it midi outs of Modal Electronics with midi thru?
Yup, midi thru from the Modal midi outs. The Modal gear has a lot of options for how to treat midi in and out.

Can the minifreak arp and seq send midi notes to digitakt?
The bass sound of the Typhon is that a preset or ownmade? (Which preset?)
Preset - A13 I believe. I could be off by one or two.

How are you splitting the MIDI OUT from the Digitakt?
I have a midi splitter connected to the main out. One end goes to the Argon and the other to the Cobalt. The Argon then feeds the Typhon. The Cobalt feeds the MiniFreak. And that's it 👍
You have enough gear with Digitakt, Minifreak and Cobalt8M. No need for Argon or Typhon :)
Honestly, could make it all work on just the Digitakt, but I’d be super limited. The reason for the Argon and Typhon is hands on control of the parts while recording the jams live. If they’re just samples in Digitakt, I find myself way less likely to manipulate them live. Plus, it’s a different sound (especially the mono part). Thanks for watching 🙏
I don't get the 64 step limitation on the digitakt, stucking on these 4bar loops can shorten the creativity.

Thank you! There’s only one Digitakt. You might be thinking the Digitone or Syntakt. Neither of those handle samples, only the Digitakt. Thanks for watching 🙏
