  • Jose Canseco on The Arsenio Hall Show. I believe this is 1990 after the A's lost the World Series to the Reds. Apologies for the early cut out, I'm not sure what happened to the rest of the interview. Cameo by Bobby Bonilla. Interesting "denial" of Jose about a steroid accusation. I have no rights to this video, this is posted for entertainment purposes only.

In 1990 Jose Canseco was like the KING OF COOL. Not very many athletes had his STAR POWER IN 1990. Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, Wayne Gretzky are 3 out of the top of my head who were in that absolute STAR POWER ZONE with Jose Canseco

You still have to make contact with the ball, steroids doesn’t do that for ya. The hardest thing in any sport is to hit a baseball being thrown 95 with late movement. That’s just one example.

He made a claim when there was no rule and no law against it, steroids were banned by congress in 1990; the reporter made the claim in 1988 when it was quiet but a non-issue. Personally, I say Canseco should be grandfathered in for doing steroids before the ban.

Canseco was my favorite player growing up. I used to tape his at bats when the A's played on TV. When I found out he was coming on Arsenio I taped it. I also had a few posters of him on my wall as a kid, and collected all his baseball cards back then. I'm sure I wasn't the only one since he was probably the most popular baseball player from about 88' to '91 or so.

Did you hear what arsenio said? He said you are the highest paid player in baseball. That was 1990 and an A's player was paid the most in baseball. But these so-called know it all fans say oakland has never paid its players. As of this interview the A's had the highest payroll in MLB. Time has bought along changes and recent A's ownership has destroyed the image of thus iconic franchise who along with the yankees are the only team to go to 3 consecutive world series two times . Obviously the yankees have done it many times, but the A's did it in 72, 73, 74. And 88, 89, 90. And A's attendance was great from 88-92. If oakland finally gets a new park the fans will come back. 2022 was an embarrassment. Our billionaire owner John fisher really destroyed this team and our attendance was terrible. It's not just the stadium the fans are tired of. It's the way ownership treats our talented players.
