- This episode introduces the minds and some work of Mr Gregory Hambali. Its a casual introduction to his background, and through process behind hybridizing plants. I asked him for the reasoning behind hybridizing plants, why we hybridize them? And then I asked about some of his past works that he is most proud of. I tried to keep this interview light and casual so you don’t feel overwhelmed. This is because the next episodes are about to get pretty tense and dense!
Mr. Hambali, thank you so much for your hybridizing work! I have ‘Pride of Sumatra’. I recognized its spectacular beauty and finally own one. Thank you, again!
❤️❤️
I love him. Please thank him for sharing his work with the world.
Yeah I am most grateful too. I hope to spread more awareness of his work

A very humble gentleman with a vast amount of knowledge in his brain. What a joy to be able to talk to him.
Oh yes… I have determined that he is superhuman.
He's on top of my inspiration of hybridizing plants which I just started 2-3yrs ago, after cutting down on my schedules in my medical practise here in the Philippines...hope to meet him someday... Thank you Sean!

So interesting. I loved his Thaumatophyllum 'Java Beauty' and his shirt was a real beauty too. I would like to own one. He knows a lot about how the plants and the ecology are interrelated. I had never heard of the Sarak (?) fruit before. Looking forward to the next episodes.
His shirt is traditional batik fabric, its quite common here in Indonesia and most of them are handprinted.
Salak ( Salacca zalacca)

I would love to visit their website and see how i can purchase some. Please share the link
They do not do direct to customers unfortunately… instead going through resellers.
@onlyplants don't you have contacts for the retailers cause I would love to get some from them, your response will be appreciated
I dont know any unfortunately… in my Indonesia plant event tours there were some booths that had some of his plants… you may be able to find their info in those past videos.
Nice video,
4:35 name of that calathea species/variety?
Its beautiful
I think its just a hybrid that Greg has made. I actually asked for the ID and he said not to bother, because he dont know. They have been so heavily cross-bred for over a decade 😅
@@onlyplants Okay thank you 🙂
Wow! I still can't find the scientific names for many of the plant hybrids he made.
In the next episode he explains that he doesnt name most of his hybrids… as they are not finished work yet
