Saw this incredible band twice. First time in San Francisco way back when they first started. The Grateful Dead was supposed to play, but they cancelled and Skynyrd took the stage. What a treat! Second time was in Chico Cal., I believe in 1975 or 1976. We were right up front when my friend ended up passing out due to some heavy drinking and the band staff came out grabbed him and took him in the back room. When the show was over a friend and myself went in the back to get our buddy to drive him home. Met some of the guys in the band, but to this day I forget who they were except do remember seeing Ronnie Van Zandt. I was only 18 and intimidated by everything that was happening. What a band! Thanks so much, this helps convince me more that we need to ask Gary to come to Flint to talk with the people at 101.5 here and myself to fulfill the potential of Gary's knowledge, and help him with medical problems that could be caused by tetanus unknowingly, I recommend he gets the Tetanus Immune Globulin HyperTET as precaution and see if it helps his heart condition.
@@bobd9868 it's sure strange that there was rumor of Artimus's death just month(s) before something happens to Gary. I felt this may happen, hope his wife is doing well. Anyone with severe medical problems have nothing to lose and much could be gained with tetanus boosters often if it helps reduce health problems that could be associated with tetanus toxin at low level undiagnosed.
Yessir the music lives on,my 9 year old daughter loses her shit when she hears sweet home Alabama!!!It was wild to my parents that I loved Skynard because it was “their” music…then it became my music and now it’s my daughters music…that then makes me think that it’s been “our” music all along!!!I think Ronnie and every member of the band would get a kick out of my daughter singing their songs word for word and just losing herself in their music!!!
My firstborn's mother is from Jax. Met her in 1980 and went 30 years without seeing her after 1980. She used to say cain't as opposed to can't, at least until she moved to New Hampshire...now she sounds like Fran Drescher 😕
Saw Skynyrd in Dallas in the 90s at the outdoor arena where Phil Anselmo of Pantera overdosed. I believe it was called Starplex then. A guy put something in my cup of beer while Tesla was playing. He said to me, "Do you believe in God?" before he fell over so I think he tried to kill me. Luckily I spilled most of the cup of beer or I would have overdosed to death point levels. I`m not sure what it was. Felt like quaalude or liquid methadone. My last memory was seeing Billy Powell dressed in white and a big white piano before I went down. I had to be carried out.
@@visfar101 thank you for the reply helping. Artimus said something between the words "I" and "agree", either the word "just" or the prefix "dis". I'm not sure which it is. BTW, I've seen comments referring to Gary as last surviving Lynyrd Skynyrd member, and articles online saying Artimus Pyle death is false rumor, then found Artimus Pyle shows that started Feb 2 2023 and concert website asking for pictures for their gallery, so if pictures are posted and shows are happening Artimus must still be surviving yet.
I’m still wondering why Billy said back then that Gary Will probably be the last one standing…maybe he meant he was the toughest most determined one? It’s pretty interesting that he said that cause many fell before Gary did. I love BP but he never come across as a guy who would have that insight. Perhaps it was purely a joke. But, in the context of the interview, I’m not sure why he said that. Good interview.
He’s my favorite guitar player In the band for exactly that reason. I know he cant play like Gaines or Collins but his tone is Incredible and I love his licks.
NOOOOOO! say it ain't so! What happened to Gary? He was the last of the originals. I'm so heartbroken to learn of this news. Was it a terminal disease or was he taken by heart failure? I'm beside myself right now.
Wow, can't believe what I just found and read about just now studying the movies made about it all. Gary can now definitely make a new movie with our help. We can write the history and Gary can confirm it, or not confirm nor refute it, giving it soft credibilty without putting Gary on the spot publicly. Only him, Ronnie and Allen are from 904, and Artimus was from SC? Look at the change of album covers for Street Survivors, incredibly obvious planning. Read Washington Post article couple days after plane has engine fire running out of fuel in perfect place for propaganda, and giant album released? So much to say now...lol. Robert E Lee High School? I had 69 Charger painted like General Lee from TV show in 1978 in Detroit Michigan...lol. So many connections that Gary may find as amazing as I am right now.
@@michaelcochran1737 I agree. One of the most unique also, along with AC/DC, because of both being the only bands I can think of that lost lead singers (few years apart) and the bands had such good musicians and reputation that they could successfully replace singers and stay at top of charts and industry. This gives two witnesses to the similar kind of changes both bands went through. Both deaths made a big impact on my generation turning 18 years old around 1980. I haven't looked into any relationship Ronnie and Bon Scott had, if any. Gary would know.
@@DrinkMyGin yes, but I saw tickets sold for Artimus shows like he is still performing this month, I'm going looking for pictures when got time to see if pictures of Artimus still alive are posted online from shows. All the girls had a crush on Gary. I had a crush on Allen. Rest Easy Boys & Cassie .❤
My first husband looked like Gary ❤
@@kayfitzgerald309 lucky girl.

nice of Artimus to give props to Bob burns ....
Lynyrd Skynyrd and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, best American rock bands of all time
Both from the state of Florida as well.
To be politically correct 💯 Obama's change
RIP
cool.

Too late :(
@@bobd9868 it's sure strange that there was rumor of Artimus's death just month(s) before something happens to Gary.
I felt this may happen, hope his wife is doing well.
Anyone with severe medical problems have nothing to lose and much could be gained with tetanus boosters often if it helps reduce health problems that could be associated with tetanus toxin at low level undiagnosed.

Im the one that found this on the Brown Archives site. About 4 weeks ago. Glad to see it got on youtube.
Did you find the other 2 videos?
I have this on DVD
Who was on the other vids? I'd love to see them....
I've always liked Lynyrd Skynyrd, but not that song... I like "That Smell" and "Saturday Night Special" - songs with attitude.
You have a budding performer on your hands. Best of luck to you both.
What a great interview with a open honest group of guys. Except the audio, why not clean it up. The scratching sucks. Long Live
Lynyrd Skynyrd 🦅
High as a kite
My firstborn's mother is from Jax. Met her in 1980 and went 30 years without seeing her after 1980. She used to say cain't as opposed to can't, at least until she moved to New Hampshire...now she sounds like Fran Drescher 😕
Looks like interview is from 1997 (96?). Would be great to have this in the info box.
I'm glad they didn't put the date in when this interview was, otherwise everyone would know.
Around 1995
What year is this from?
Is there a transcript? Didn't quite hear what Artimus said at 21:35 about agreeing with Billy about something.
He said "what do I think of the Brothers? The Allman Brothers?"
The interviewer called Gary "Dale"😂
Watch if I leave here tomorrow you’ll feel even more of the majic of the misunderstood band in history
Don't usually see Art in shades
Gary was a great guy who lived through A LOT. He sounds kinda wasted here...
"Georgia Boys"
cool that artie said bob burns was the best drummer,,he was he played what fit
Love Gary but you could tell he was on something in this interview
I’m still wondering why Billy said back then that Gary Will probably be the last one standing…maybe he meant he was the toughest most determined one? It’s pretty interesting that he said that cause many fell before Gary did. I love BP but he never come across as a guy who would have that insight. Perhaps it was purely a joke. But, in the context of the interview, I’m not sure why he said that. Good interview.
Not knowing Gary personally, as Billy did, we'll never know..
Gary is my go-to guy, so much so I have tried to copy his tone!

I've. Never. Seen freebird. The. Movie. Does. Anybody. Know. Where. I. Can. See. It.
Best band on earth their music will last forever .They are my favorite band of my lifetime !
How prophetic that Billy said Gary would be the last one standing.
@@DrinkMyGin yes, but I saw tickets sold for Artimus shows like he is still performing this month, I'm going looking for pictures when got time to see if pictures of Artimus still alive are posted online from shows. Concert Websites acted strange not allowing me to buy tickets for show, but asking if I liked it and can post pictures from it.
So much for that :(
QUESTION - What does Gary say at 6:44 ? "My own child I wouldn't take a million dollars for... but you wouldn't gave a nickel for a busload of ____ _______ , you know what I mean?"
