Jim Davis, I see that you have corrected yourself in a separate post. Indeed, the 'ocean' is the audience. Led Zeppelin was ~four years old at the time of this show.

Back when rock and roll was pure and unadulterated. It was guitars and drums and emotion. The 60's and 70's was the greatest era in rock & roll, with the 90's coming in a distant 2nd.

The tempo and key change in a lot of Zeppelin songs is why I love them so much! Black Sabbath are the king's of blindsiding you will a tempo change, but Zeppelin does it perfectly, especially in live performances. Not a lot of modern bands pull this off as well as they did back in the late 60's and 70's.

Yes, Zeppelin had some amazing transitions in their music. Of course back in the 70s there was a lot of music that did that. It’s often referred to as a rhapsody, just like in Bohemian Rhapsody. Here is the definition of a musical rhapsody from Wikipedia:
A rhapsody in music is a one-movement work that is episodic yet integrated, free-flowing in structure, featuring a range of highly contrasted moods, colour, and tonality. An air of spontaneous inspiration and a sense of improvisation make it freer in form than a set of variations.

@LFR Niah I really like your reaction/commentary in relation to Zeppelin. Very insightful. IMO, the most impressive & unique thing about Zeppelin is unlike other bands (The Beatles, The Doors, The Who, Rolling Stones, etc.) very early stuff (in the 1960s) SOUNDS LIKE THE 60s. But then Zeppelin's first album came out in 1969, and nothing about it had a 1960s vibe about it. In fact, most every Zeppelin song can sound as fresh today as it did when Zeppelin played it when the song first came out. VERY unique in that respect, as I don't know of another band that has managed to pull that off like Zeppelin's timeless music has. Just look at "The Ocean" sounded too cool when you first watched it, right? And to think this was performed back in 1973, and yet it's still SOOOOOO cool-sounding hearing it in 2021. ;)

Your reactions to this band are GREAT!!! Led Zeppelin's transitions are something Page is a master at along with creating riffs, grooves and playing a wicked guitar. The band as a whole decides how alot of the music goes but John Paul Jones, the bassist, is an extremely talented arranger and does alot of LZ's arranging. He and Page worked as session musicians prior to Led Zeppelin and they were know as the very best session men and John also arranged at that time. Absolutely not a stupid question about the 4 year old!!!! Yes - It is his daughter, Carmen, who as of a few years ago was a professional middle-eastern dancer (ie belly dancing) and is married to a bass player who was in Robert's band in his solo career.😁 At this time, Robert had another child-a son, Karac, who tragically died from a sudden illness in 1977 while Robert was on tour in the US. A very tough period for Robert and he was away from the band for about a year and LZ did not perform live again until late 1979. Thanks for the reaction!!!

This was unused track from the movie, nice to see something different, especially Bonzo singing some backup. Love your comment on making you want to learn the guitar. I grew up in the seventies, Jimmy Page inspired me to start, wanted to play like him, of course nowhere near the talent. Spot on about changing the tempo and feel of the song midway. Zeppelin did that often in many songs. If you have the stamina watch the live version of Dazed and Confused, about 25 minutes and they change things up at least 15 times.

Yes, he was referring to his daughter. As she got older he would adjust the lyrics to reflect her age. The original lyrics from the album she was three. Another bit of trivia from this film is they had a lot problems making it and had to go back re-film sections of it so some of the shots may not be from the actual concert itself.

I been playing professionally since about 1979 I styled myself after Robert Plant the singer but I dont sing much I play lead guitar and drums sometimes. my whole family was musicians my dad was a simi famous drummer..but led zeppelin was a fluke thats the reason there called led zeppelin..Keith moon drummer of the WHO said they going end like a led zeppelin..there first name they choose was going to be called "super group" Jimmy paige was the lead guitarist for the yardbirds the biggest rock band of the 60s. it had Eric Clapton..Jeff back.. and the he was singing about his daughter but on the album version he says 3 years old guess a year had went by

Actually, "Hey hey what i can do" was released. It was the B-side of the US single release of "Immigrant Song". I used to have a copy. Or, actually, my sister did. 🙂 I briefly DJ'd at a very small radio station in the mid 70's, and I borrowed that single from my sister to play on the air. When I left the station (joined the Navy), I couldn't find the single.
In later years, before CDs and the songs eventual inclusion in the compilations, that single was actually considered a collector's item, because, at that time, that was the only place you could find the song.

If you should ever want to have a go at something completely different, try out "The Chemical Brothers - Believe". The video for this song won the MTV award for best music video way back in 2005. Another option for something completely different might be "Rammstein - Mein Herz Brennt (Official Video)", the song dates back to 2001 but was first released as a single with an accompanying video in 2012. And is a very well made video with a captivating but also somewhat confusing storyline.

The band journey is great if you like vocalist. I'd recommend "who's crying now" live in houston 😀

@@GroovingPict Don't libel him. There's no evidence that he went for underage girls and I think there's only one top that came from someone he was with the night before, apparently. It is the one he's wearing in this video.

1:14 No picture taking allowed... good song but it certainly isn't their best. The musical range and diversity of Zeppelin is what set them apart. It also helps to have phenomenal stage presense which this band certainly had as well...

I respectfully suggest you follow your comment/instinct re learning to play the guitar (or any instrument). If you stick to it, it'll enrich your whole life. ✌
