Yes they did the right thing by leaving the dead head and calling the DNR first. I unfortunately found out the hard way. Cause my daughter and I were out shed hunting together. She found a really nice buck and I let her keep it not knowing the rules n regs at that time. I had it mounted on a deer mount for her and some jealous asshole called the DNR and they showed up at my door and wrote me a ticket for $1000.00 dollars and took the deer mount. So technically I was outta $1475.00 dollars. So yes calling the DNR first is the way togo. Even know I had pics of the dead head as it layed and coyotes destroyed it. And no meat was on it either. Honestly I think he could have given me a break. But...no way. I wasn't too happy let me tell ya.

In Iowa if you take a deadhead and some asshole finds out and calls the DNR it's a 1000 dollar find. Take it from me I found out the hard way. Prick wrote me a ticket for 1000 dollars and took the rack. What sucked is that I didn't find it. My daughter did. I told her she could keep it. We actually had it mounted on a deer mount and the asshole took the whole head. So technically I was outta $1475.00. So yes they did the right thing by leaving it and calling the dnr first.

She'd hunting with your dog takes away all the fun and adventure in my mind! It's cheating in away but I guess if you can't spot them then you need your dog to do all the work!

This is the most ignorant comment I’ve ever seen. Do you have even the slightest clue how much work and dedication goes into training a shed dog? Probably much more time than what you have ever spent shed hunting.

Norman E Simms bring your dog out if it’s that easy. Sounds like someone’s just butthurt because this team finds as many antlers in a season as you will in a lifetime.

Doing anything with your dog is usually pretty fun especially stuff like this so I don’t see how using a dog would take away from the experience
