    Thanks for the tips! I love the hinge idea. I’m going to take your advice and do some playing. I have everything but the pixie spray which I don’t think is necessary, yet ☺️

    I was just playing with my stencils today for #printinktober. I was doing a stencil-over-stencil technique. I normally just use my stamping platform (with grid paper for protection), and the magnets that came with it, to hold my stencils & paper down. However, the stencils were too slippery against each other for that. I used Duck Clean Release blue masking tape to tape the bottom stencil to the paper (taping from the back of the paper). I used more of this tape to tape the stencils together. I found that, even if the "package" moved, it all moved together and the stencils didn't shift on my project. I applied the ink with makeup brushes, the cheapest ones I could find at Walmart and they're working really well. Thanks for the hinge tip...I'll try to work that into my methodology.

    Good tutorial, I like how you pointed out the reasons for different sizes. I was hoping you were going to show the difference between the variety of stencils. I bought a silkscreen one, thinking I could use it like a regular stencil, but I'm realizing, probably not, especially with applying glitter over a stencil, it needs to be open, not permeate through.

      It moves around a bit. But, you can always get some of those little rubber grippers and put them on the bottom of it.

      Deborah Anne, you can use Gorilla Grip drawer and shelf liner (available at Amazon) underneath and that won't happen anymore!

    Hi, How do you clean glitter paste off a stencil. I put it in warm water right away and there is still glitter paste on it? Thank you.

    • @slyseyes
      @slyseyes Před 4 lety

      Use some kind of a soft cloth (or baby wipe) to clean off the residual glitter paste.You need to get it clean before the next use.

    • @deborahanne9793
      @deborahanne9793 Před 4 lety

      Thank you. If I have residual dried glitter, why would it affect the stencil on the next use? Most of it is off but some is so hard that it will not come off. I was told by the company that it would not affect the use of the stencil.

    • @slyseyes
      @slyseyes Před 4 lety +1

      @@deborahanne9793 Eventually it will build up causing your stencil to be uneven. Just make it a habit to clean it at the time you take it out of the water. (You can put a bit of dish soap in the water to help release the glitter.) I have a kitchen sponge called "Dobie". It's a sponge with a light plastic scrubber on it. It cleans off stuck on stuff really easily. I suspect it's soft enough to use on your stencils as long as you don't put too much pressure on it. (I'm a bit of a clean freak and want my supplies to be a clean as possible.)

    • @deborahanne9793
      @deborahanne9793 Před 4 lety

      Sherry Utah Yes, I am a clean freak with my supplies as well. This is why the residual glitter still on the stencil is bothering me. It was Nuvo Glimmer Paste and I put the stencil in warm water right away. If you have an email, I can picture you the stencil. I scrubbed and soaked all night and that stuff is stuck.

    • @slyseyes
      @slyseyes Před 4 lety

      @@deborahanne9793 Are you putting some dish soap in the warm water? You can try that little "Dobie" scrubby I suggested. It doesn't seem to cause any damage, but try it on a small space to see if it helps. Use warm water and some dish soap. Residual glitter would bug me, too! :-)

    my stencils seem to eat my daubers - i end up with teeny bits of dauber foam all over. what might be causing that?

    • @lizzystitch4842
      @lizzystitch4842 Před 4 lety

      All the cut edges of the stencil, in the design, are sharp, and so they cut into the foam of the daubers. It's easy to not realize how sharp they are! Dabbing with daubers works ok with plastic or mylar stencils, but doing large areas with them will tear up the foam on the daubers. I recommend a cheap, clean makeup brush or the Scrapbook.com foam blenders as shown in the video. They are a better quality foam than the daubers. Also, the Tim Holtz blenders work well.

    • @scrapbook
      @scrapbook  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Kay! Lizzystitch484 has great advice - dabbing your daubers in ink or paint and then onto your stencil will avoid tearing the dauber foam. When you're working with intricate stencils, try to apply your medium in only one direction in a gentle stroke, which should lessen the foam getting stuck on the stencil edges. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      @@lizzystitch4842 thank you for the reply, i was doing a circular motion and fairly hard pressure since the ink wasn't really getting thru to the paper. i'll look for juicier stamps, better daubers, and more practice.

      @@kayvallance9560 Have you tried those new blender brushes? They work like a dream and are very easy to clean. www.scrapbook.com/store/pif-br-103.html?w=blender+brushes
      I have some of these and love them. This is a small package of brushes, and there are larger packages. I find that the smallest brushes in the larger packages don't work all that well for me. Do a search to see what other sizes/styles are available.
