- A train ride from Montreal to Halifax Nova Scotia aboard VIA Rail's eastern long-distance train, the Ocean. Showcasing the train, the scenery, the stations, and things to see in Halifax and the surrounding area. For times, fares & tickets see www.seat61.com/montreal-to-ha...
The train runs 3 times a week all year round, leaving Montreal in the early evening and arriving in Halifax early evening the following day.
Flying is a way to get there, as is crawling over broken glass. Taking the train, dining at a table and sleeping in
a bed, are a part of the experience
.
It’s like being rocked to sleep 😴
My son James and I traveled from Kingston, Ontario to Moncton, New Brunswick on via rail. The service was superb. The via employees are one of a kind.
It was also good to see that small boy getting an experience of a lifetime! - go for it, boy! that's Canada! Lobster and all!
I took this route 20 years ago Economy Class. It was an experience I will never forget. Police came on at one stop to take off a drunk passenger who had barfed on the floor. Great video!
Ha the same thing happened to me . This guy was drunk and walking around and peeing all over the place . His buddy said that his friend just got out of jail and needed to get celebrate freedom .
Very nice editing. Canada such a beautiful country, so many rivers and greenery...
yes! only for 4 months
8 months in western BC
6 Months in Ontario by the way, until now the east coast is the most beautiful part of Canada and have the most cozy people. Looking forward to visit BC one day with my wife. God bless the true north strong and free
Amtrak is better
India Kya kam he Rajiv?
Canadians ... Thank God every day for the beautiful country you live in.... One day I hope to visit. Did make Niagara Falls once.
There is no god!
Pierre M There's always that one guy.
@@wowojeejee Keep your opinion for yourself
Niagara Falls sucks compared to the other places! I'm French Canadien
I have been taking Boat Cruises to cause the vires did take 3 really enjoyed on Royal Caribbean Now its time to see my beautiful Canada end the trip you take plane back to your city
Opportunity to see the country at a glance, so heavenly.
A wonderful video...
I did this trip - Halifax to Toronto, economy class, back in the 1980's and it took about 36 hours total.
A lot of fun though.
Great video. I have travelled on "The Canadian'" 25 times since 1964 (both ways). About 2000 or so I went all the way from Vancouver to Halifax & that year they were trying out a once a week train from Halifax to Sydney,NS that included a Park car. It went to Sydney 1 day & returned the next. Discontinued after only 2 or 3 yrs as I recall. The Park cars & most of the cars on The Canadian were built in 1954 & still operate after 60+ years. BTW original artwork from the "Group of Seven" painters was hung on the wall in the bar under the dome in Park cars & they allowed smoking in the early years. I have never been on the Renasance cars.
+don town yes "going all the way"...those were the days, my friend, we thought they'd never end. ..........
Nicely done! You've hit the high points of the trip and provided great memories of my trip to Halifax taken last week (Oct 14-18, 2018) on The Ocean. Nothing much has changed since 2015, even the menu looks the same, but it was certainly a memorable journey. Thanks for posting the video.
So clean, so nice ambience inside the train. Outer scenes were so superb.
Long Live the Canadian Rail System!! Those beautiful Budd dome cars from the mid-50's. What wonderful memories.....Thanks for posting this video.
Excellent video, as always Mark! I'm so tempted now. Halifax to Montréal will be the first leg of my very first trip to Canada. :-)
Thinking about a PhD in Halifax... Experiencing Canadian scenes through youtubers' eyes. Thank you for that.
This routing is BEAUTIFUUUUUL .. I remember my journey in NB and NS specially arriving in Halifax town and visiting Citadel and Tatanic Museum!! Love that part of Canada!!!!
We made a similar trip Halifax to Toronto in the 70’s and I GOT THE SAME CARDBOARD TRAIN TO ASSEMBLE!! Smiled when I saw that.
amazing ,too good ,great scenery ,thank you so much .
Brings back many good memories. Thank you.
Hello from New Zealand, very enjoyable, when you watch the vista's in this clip why would you want to fly? rail travel will never die, many thanks for sharing.

i took this train many a times from montreal to campbellton when i lived in toronto in the 80's ton of fun especially at christmas. did coke for the first time on that train and always got on with a 24 of beer in Christmas wrap. arrived in campbellton around 6am my father would pick me up and i was all hungover
That was great, thank you. Just the kind of railway journey I like to watch. Canada is beautiful.
Drove to Truro last time but thinking of doing the train instead next time. Nova Scotia so beautiful. Thank you for uploading!
Very beautiful footage...high quality and great scenery, enjoyed it so much..thank you Mark Smith
Thanks for this we did the same trip and it's the one part of our trip we really didn't video. And it was for me the best part of our holiday even after going on the rocky mountaineers. Thanks mate. I loved Halifax.
Thanks for sharing! I love train travel, I would love to do this one! Have always wanted to go across country to Halifax. What a gorgeous trip!
Hello dear
Wow it's looks so much better than air travel if you have the extra time.
We all have the time, you just have to stop a few frivolous things to find it, reason out what is important and what isn't in you life.
LOL...extra time indeed....24 hours or so vs an 18 hour drive vs a 2 hour flight :D
Paddy 2 hour flight doesn’t factor in flight delays/cancellations
The passengers always said it very relaxing. I use to work as a train attendant. 🙋🏻♀️
@@DiMakingiteveryday 😊😊😊😊
Marvelous video. I used to take the train quite a lot between Halifax and Montreal and around the whole area as a student. The Park car lounges have incredible art work in them, commissioned by the railway by Group of 7 and other great painters.
Great video ! Thanks! Nice to see the east , Ahoy y 'all from BC Kootenays!
Wow ! Beautiful extremely clean class travel . This is definitely highest standards for travel. We in India are blessed to watch your videos and enjoy travel in our Head only. There's extreme cleanliness in your place. It's because you people are highly educated .God bless you who made the video. Salisbury park.

Thanks so much for this video. Very helpful!
Lovely video !! Thanks for this !
Thank you for sharing. I grew up in Kyle of Lochalsh in Scotland and the train journey from there to Inverness is beautiful. If you ever get the chance you should have a wee looksie:0) I'd give my right arm for the chance to visit Nova Scotia though. Your videos are great for someone like myself who can't afford to leave the Highlands lol.
Super excited to see what happen when experience really thrilling journey if with partner
Lovely.love trains and this is awesome !🙂👍
Thank you for this excellent coverage.
Thanks for this upload. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
That was amazing, so impressed by the video ....That is a trip we shall do !
I rented a house in Nova Scotia one August and it was magical. Wish I had taken the train as looks like a lot of fun.
how is nova scotia? never been.. can you elaborate? :)
@@GRINGOf10 All the Maritime Provinces are beautiful and east coast of N.S. especially in August and September, are amazing. Rented a house south of Lunenberg which is charming. People are great. Wonderful fresh seafood. No complaints about any of it.
@@stephenacs wow thanks for the feedback.. I'm looking at moving there to be honest.. in the future at least (next 5 years or so) .. wonder if the quality of life is good out there
Another well produced and informative videos. Thank you for sharing again
looks like a very scenic trip, thanks for the report!
Wow, does that look amazingly fun!! Being from USA, I will say that Canada is such a beautiful country. That is one pretty F40PH!
Beautiful scenery!
Thank you for this video upload. I did so enjoy watching it. Pat-South Padre Island, Texas
amazing Canada ! what a chance to live there !!!!! thanks for sharing ! greets from Toulouse !!!
+Francois Gauthier I'm Canadian and I appreciate that people like our country! The coaches are actually British coaches we bought because the British didn't need them.
another Fuc***ng Fellow Canadian!! Always trying bring down their own country whenever they get a chance. Why don't you get the fu*k out of canada
Firstly, I was stating facts and presenting information. Secondly, telling another Canadian citizen that he is angry at them with cussing is not the best example of our nation.
How is he trying to bring down our nation? Like he said, he literally presenting information. Also, you're the one bringing down our country by acting like an immature sod.
charron Dude that runs Every race And I call that crab mentality
Nice and cool journey
It's journey like a beautiful dream
Amazing, I would love to take the train from Montreal to Halifax for sure!
This was wonderful! Thanks!
I took this once - economy class - about 10 years ago. A trip I'll never forget!
So beautiful, thank you
bonito tren canadiense, saludos desde mexico😊
nice canadian train, greetings from mexico😊
Great video, thanks a lot. It brought back many memories.(Canuck in VT).
Magnificent countryside. We were in Halifax and Peggy’s Cove and drove around much of Nova Scotia 22 years ago. Maybe will get back soon.
Wow!!, Canada is a beautiful country. I would like to live there
What a fantastic little movie you have made, top drawer!!
Awesome video. I liked the beautiful forest rivers. What cleanliness.
I'm from Ontario and never been to Nova Scotia. Must get out there someday and the train might be a nice way to go.
It is a very interesting experience, especially from a foreigner's point of view.
by all means, do it. I've been to Digby, N.S.
@@davidpost428 Agree , I've been to Cornwallis and surrounding towns , I DUG DIGBY !....Thank You H.M.C.S LION HAMILTON ONT.
50 years ago I took two ferries from Digby to briar Island which cost $.25 including the car. Today they cost well… they don’t cost anything they’re free. That’s the way Canada does business for the people.
Excellent video, we are taking this trip in reverse in late January, starting at Halifax and ending in Vancouver, with connections at Montreal and Toronto, thanks for sharing!
I was watching this and when it started on the kids with the paper folding train..Bang it hit me.. I was on the same train ride from Toronto to Halifax when i was 3 or 4 (1974) 75 I remembered the paper train There is a picture of me standing on the seat waving bye bye out the window
Beautiful train trip I'd love to ride this one and that delicious lobster at the end looked fabulous!
Really like the fantastic views and experiences.
Thanks so much for the video. We are booked on the trip in July.

SUPERB VIDEO David!
I was a train attended in the summer once my run was from Halifax to Montreal. I loved it! #maritimer ❤️
Nice footage, and thank you for sharing this. I feel like I am on board via rail.
I was pretty impressed with the food offerings! They did not look bad for a train.
Hi Mark, thank you for uploading this nice video - you sold me to the trip, it is nice to have the unbiased perspective of someone who did it (and enjoyed it)! Great editing, Ciao, L
Amazing video, makes me wanna go there so much..;)
Great video. Well edited. Thank you.

Nice job, folks! I've made approximately that trip by car a couple times, and I'm still in love with the Maritimes.
I really, really enjoyed that. Great video.
I did the 27-28hr VIA Rail trip Toronto-Montreal-Halifax back in Dec 1992, the winter scenery was amazing and I hardly slept at all.
Getting home sick now! I'm over due for a trip home to Halifax.
Great video and thanks for sharing. I think I know where I will go this summer.
Was much impressed by service on ViaRail trains during my Canadian holiday in 2017.

A very nice video.....nice to know the "Night Star" sleeper stock from the UK is being put to good use !! Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful pictures, nice coverage. You make me wish to visit Canada soon.
Thanks for the memories, Mark. We took that trip a year earlier. We found the "Oceans" European sleepers very small compared to the Budd sleepers on "the Canadian". Train staff were very friendly and accommodating. We even got a lesson on lobster fishing from the train attendant in the Park car.
Thanks for The video, Very Nice !

Thanks for this lovely video. I'm taking the Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver next month but now this looks like a "must do" as well!
You will love Nova Scotia which is where I live.
Via has awesome food. They use local ingredients wherever possible
Enjoyed the trip thank you
Nice video, thank you for uploading! Regards from Germany
Love your videos .
Looks fully heaven... Wishing well from Bangladesh.
Wife and I toured NS with Globus Tours. As a optional addon trip, we were the only ones who took this train and toured Montreal, riding the double decker Greyline, step on, step off tour of the city. We like Canada so much we flying from NC to Vancouver to ride the Canadian (Snow Train) to Toronto after a 3 day hotel stop, I think in Banff. I love trains, and snow, so it is double fun for me. Wife does not like the cold so much so she is going mostly because I want to. Canada has a picture of the Canadian train on their $10 bill I noticed some time back.
Groundho
Well done ! I used to ride VIA Rail in Ontario from Toronto to the country towns. That was in '85. Also, took the train from Calgary to Vancouver in a sleeper car through the Rockies.
Great video! Awesome quality!
je tiens a vous dire que le Canada est super beau et que j aime mes cousins Canadiens
