  • SIZING CHART:
    Violin calculations:
    23 ¾" or longer = 4/4 (Full size)
    22 ¼" - 23 ¾" = 3/4
    20 ¼" - 22 ¼" = 1/2
    18 ½" - 20 ¼" = 1/4
    16 ⅞" - 18 ½" = 1/8
    15 ⅜" - 16 ⅞" = 1/10
    14 ⅛" - 15 ⅜" = 1/16
    Shorter than 14 ⅛" = 1/32* *Ward-Brodt does not carry 1/32 sized instruments
Viola Calculations: (Viola sizes - in inches - refer to the length of the instrument's body)
    27 ⅛" ~ 27 ⅝" = 16 ½"*
    26 ⅜" - 27 ⅛" = 16"
    25 ⅝" - 26 ⅜" = 15 ½"
    24 ⅞" - 25 ⅝" = 15"
    23 ¼" - 24 ⅞" = 14" (same body length as a 4/4 Violin)
    21 ⅞" - 23 ¼" = 13" (same body length as a 3/4 Violin)
    Shorter than 21 ⅞" = 12" (same body length as a 1/2 Violin)
*Ward-Brodt does not carry Violas larger than 16 ½", but can get them in. A 16 ½" Viola will usually work for individuals with arms long enough to play larger instruments.
**Ward-Brodt does not carry Violas smaller than 12". However a smaller Violin can be re-strung as a Viola if needed.
Ward-Brodt Music Sound Post representative, Steven Ethington demonstrates how to size your musician for violin, viola, cello and string bass instruments.
