4:54 The small one is Samuel. He is now a solo artist, and would have been the maknae is he stayed. If I remember correctly, his mother made him leave the company because he was 10/11(?), and thought he was way too young to debut. He's reaaally good at singing and dancing, so it's obvious that he could have fit in perfectly with SVT. I don't know if they still keep in touch, but they used to. They really adored him.
Mother made a smart choice tho. 10-11 is too young

If he stayed with svt then he would’ve debuted older than he did anyway - he debuted as a duo a few months before svt debuted so it was pointless to take him out :(

Very few mixed race individuals make it in Kpop the two most popular to do so are Vernon and Somi. Vernon is very vocal about educating people about race and also is beloved by LGBTQ community because he is not afraid to show his support and believes everyone should have the right to equality.

not even just a mixed people thing. Even if you're culturally(?) mixed that happens (ex: korean-american etc, when you're ethnicity is different from the country's culture you grew up in).
I'm fully ethnically and nationality-wise korean, but I grew up in a lot of different countries (moved a lot). But I spent my early childhood (5-10yo) in America, the age when you get influenced by your surroundings a lot. So I never feel 100% korean, nor american. Can't even call myself "korean-america" because I don't have an American nationality. Lol. No country feels like home to me. Home is just wherever my family is living atm.
Vernon is the most human person I have ever seen, he lowkey supports the lgbt community as well, made a gender transparent song, them performing for an event for AAPI hate crime is really something to admire about this group. they're been so supportive towards good cause and been vocal to it while just being lowkey about it

I watched their Ode To You concert in my country before the pandemic hits. And I must say, it is once in a lifetime experience. I really enjoyed that, came back home with sore throat after cheering so loud and *trying* to do the fanchants (which I executed horribly). BUT it is fun. So if you got the chance to go to their concert someday, YOU SHOULD! 100% WON'T REGRET THE EXPERIENCE!

Officially Caitlin, welcome to this beautiful if often chaotic fandom. You are never going to want to back out now. I do want to encourage you to watch some Going Seventeen episodes. Not necessarily doing CZcams reactions but just on your own downtime. You can really see how they are as individuals through the “GoSe TT”episodes. They will have you in stitches pretty much the entire time. I highly recommend you checking out both of their Halloween specials. the first one (the Tag) will have you rolling on the floor laughing. And the second one “Ego” will terrify you. I am completely in love with this group and often find myself listening to their music almost on a daily basis. Just recently their music has gotten me through a hard time and a reminder that hope is always with you. Watching others discover Seventeen is always so awesome to witness.

This was not included in the guide during Vernon's part but he's also has a really nice and unique vocal tone for a rapper. He's been getting more singing parts in recent seventeen songs and he sounds amazing 😭❤! Some of his famous singing parts are in Anyone (his beautiful falsetto is everything 😍), Kidult, Can't Run Away (this is basically hip hop unit's ballad song), 2 Minus 1 & Lie Again.
god i truly love vernon,,, he is a super good producer and he always shows what he is listening to and he is such a music geek you cant tell he loves the craft (he is very much into PC music and hyperpop). He is also the second most credited member on seventeen obviously after woozi, but he is helping more and more everyday. He is such a special character and he is very true to himself and to what he belives in and who he is and you will see that as you get to know them. he is such a gem

- 5:00 the littler kid in the pre-debut pics is Kim Samuel, he's actually a solo artist at the moment. He didn't end up debuting with SVT, i think partly because he was so young (in the pics he's 11/12), he would have been 13 when SVT debuted.

- 17:50 yep, chant goes oldest to youngest then youngest to oldest, not even with stage names either
- Honestly they are such a mess without S. Coups - but (40:00) he was on hiatus at that point, i think due to anxiety.
- wonwoo is a whole dork and he's brilliant
- mingyu has actually gotten taller....
- but yeah the thing with vernon is actually really common, even if you were born in korea (half-korean or otherwise as long as you aren't entirely korean) you are usually considered/treated like a foreigner. You are actually more likely to be treated as a foreigner than a ethnically full korean person even if they had never been to korea before - this is apparent when you compare how tv show hosts or other koreans treat vernon compared to joshua (whose parents are both korean but who hadn't lived in korea at all until becoming a trainee).
No pressure and obviously watch it when you have more time but, I highly recommend checking out Going Seventeen. It's so fun to watch and a more organic way to get to know them in my opinion. I took a break from kpop for a while and, so I had tonnes of episodes to watch and I would stay up for hours binging it. It's so entertaining. Would highly recommend.
I recently became a carat but I’ve known about since forever since Monsta x and seventeen are literally besties and debuted same month and year!! They became another chaos I love🥰😭

Once you start watching going seventeen, there's no way out.. And you'll realize nobody's normal. Hahahaha. Plus you can see how the make games fun by changing or adding new strategies & ideas. No other idols does it like them. I swear you'll love them even more!

I'm re-watching these for the third time, am I okay? No, but is Caitlin here to brighten up my day? Obviously yes duh.
The meaning of seventeen was actually debuting a group that caters to China, Korea, and Japan (like the NCT concept but without constantly adding members, Hoshi was supposed to be part of the Japan unit), and their average age was supposed to be 17 years old. At one point, 17tv trainees reached 20+ members but were unable to debut them because of a lack of funds. As the trainees got older, they change the marketing to debuting 17 members, but still due to lack of funds they weren't able to do that until most trainees left. When The8 or Minghao joined, Pledis' VP sold his house so that seventeen can debut, and they use their original marketing explanation of svt but instead of China, Korea, and Japan unit, they use the position units (Vocal, HipHop, Performance)
