- I try to learn something every day. Today, I learned of a GORGEOUS RC RACE TRACK nearby where I live and I didn't even know about it?! It just so happened that we have the perfect stock cars for it, too!
The RC club is Templestowe Flat Track Racers: tftr.org.au/
They're on CZcams, too! @templestoweflattrackracers2906
( / @templestoweflattrackr... )
But it's raining! So... we got wet. Worth it? You bet!
Our Kyosho Fazer Mk II RTR 4x4 RC cars hit the track on 2S batteries and a pair of noob drivers. Much fun was had. And I'm so pleased to be able to share a bit of that with you here too :)
We didn't know what we were doing, being used to slower rigs. But after a while we found a groove and it was really fun. Since making this video I've also had a closer look at the TFTR website. They're very welcoming, from the look of it. Numerous classes to consider and a pretty spiffing new dual-camera setup for event day live-streaming! Their channel has a bit of recent new content at time of posting this video - go check them out!

Rain will dry, & great memories never die.
But... DUUUUDE!!!! CHALLENGER!!!! Respect your elders, mate!!!
Lol yes
What a hoot!
Thanks, it was!
Good times
Rain in Australia??? You never saw that on Home & Away :) Great vid.
Heh we've had a bit of rain this past year, yeah!
Keen out in the rain boys….. That’s a nice track 👍🏻
Rain doesn't usually stop us from enjoying RC time. It's a feature, not a bug :)
Nice I just upgraded my Fazer it goes about 54 mph now love em
Awesome. I fitted racing wheels and tires to mine today. They're fun to play with eh
Mate this looks like so much fun!! My favorite part of driving is racing in the rain, so I can only imagine how fun it was with an RC!! Can't wait for more tarmac content!!
There will be more :)
Such an awesome facility. I wish we had something like that around here.
Isn't it just!
Apart from getting soggy, that looked like great fun. What a brilliant facility. 👍🏻
Soggy was part of the fun :) Fantastic track isn't it! Looking forward to getting back there soon.
"I can't imagine what a fast car would be like on this..." To me, those look fast already, ha ha!
Good job keeping them in a straight line on that wet surface, must have been slippery as hell... Good fun!
Heh it really was pretty grippy, all things considered. I'm continually impressed with the Fazer platform, it's durable, stable and goes pretty good for a 'cheap' OEM brushed setup!
What a fantastic spot.
Right?! I couldn't believe it when I got there - how have I not known about it for the last 20 years despite living within 20 minutes of it all this time!
Super fun ride
Wow that looked fun, couldn’t take my eyes off it, been waiting for this video since the day we were there, have to do it again soon! I’ll second, they are a tuff machine.
I'm looking forward to running the TT-02s there when we've got em done too!
@@RCTNT Oh, face off, Tamiya vs Kyosho, you say?! that'd be cool, even if it's not a pro-racer, a mean of a series of laps will do, with the usual review and comparison of their traits!
Sounds interesting, I may do this. Thanks for the idea
I would've been right next to you in the rain on such a sweet track!! GREAT VIDEO‼️
Thanks, it was great
drifting!! wow nice track
i wish we had something like this
Heh there wasn't a lot of drifting but it was a nice track!
Wow, I started watching your videos because I wanted to get into crawling. And then you go to TFTR! I used to race onroad there all the time. Was actually back there early this year for the Vic State Titles. It's a fantastic track. Look forward to seeing some of your videos as you get into racing!
Ah, how about that! How good is RC, eh? That's awesome. Let's crawl together sometime. Cheers!
@@RCTNT sadly I moved back to Sydney… thanks for the offer though. Might take you up that some day!
That track looks sweet! Was hoping you were running the Fazer Tundra though… That’s hot…
Oh I haven't seen that one! The Fazer is a brilliant little platform, in any case!
I've been looking at the Fazer GTO. Might just have to pull the trigger now.
Solid little machines, they are. I gave mine a rougher time in the last video - worth a look if you're wondering about durability! (I didn't set out to do that and shouldn't have driven it right after driving jumps trucks! Made for useful durability data though!)
czcams.com/video/V8TQFrVS4-Y/video.html
wow I'm surprised you were able to make it around once with those tires.....EEEK lol
They were really pretty good! Only brushed power so that helped my noob controlling, but there was less aquaplaning than expected and it was really really fun!
@@RCTNT yeah, if you're going to do road racing, the set up is key. right tires and right throttle and steering settings......
You did good though, I can barely get around 4 pylons hahahah
I'd so love to get into road racing but considering it's 8 months of winter up here, there's just no tracks. Indoor? forgetabout it....warehouse space would cost $10,000 a month.
We'll go back and take it seriously soon. Just had a first time play to see what it was about. I liked it!
I can see snow and space being an issue yes! I'd be more into flying if I didn't have ground area for driving, I think. Plenty of choice out there these days, rc is more accessible than ever :)
@@RCTNT oh I could see road racing to be a blast.....
As for r/c being accessible....it's the golden era of r/c. You can get into the hobby without huge cash outlay.
When I was a kid I looked into planes. To get in the air, you needed to buy a kit plane, then the gas motor, starter, and all the hardware. Then field box, fuel, and the only places you were allowed to fly were club fields and needed a licence. Total cost? $2500. That's $18,000 in today's dollars.
Now you can get into flying for $50 and the plane has a gyro so you don't crash. (unless you fly it into a smoke stack that is lol ask me how I know? hahhaha)
Heh yes exactly!
That is just fun! What electronics were you running and how was the clean up afterwards? Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Michael, it was a heap of fun, yeah! Running 100% stock machine here, radio, motor, esc, the lot - what you get out of the box. 14-turn 550 3-pole motor and a 40 or 60A ESC, whatever it is. Ample for the car, goes great, good battery life, etc. Very happy with it as a durable and satisfying package.
Cleanup was pulling it right down, cleaning all moving parts. Lots of water came out of the vented wheels, those foams held quite a bit! Took me a while to get them dry as they're glued, so much squeezing, waiting, squeezing, waiting, etc. Eventually they were dry. I took the opportunity to pack the diffs with grease while I had it all apart, too. Firmed up the diff action a bit, which I think will be beneficial for handling. Probably. We'll see! The axles didn't have a lot of water in them at all. My car at least had a lot of grease from factory, so it was all quite good, honestly. The bearings are all sealed, too, so that definitely would be helpful to your average casual owner for vehicle longevity on minimal maintenance. Personally I quite enjoyed the strip down and reassembly - Simon did for his, too. We just had a great day :)
@@RCTNT I have heard good things about the Fazer. That was impressive. One thing I learned the hard way was to put a piece of tape over the vent holes in the wheels when running in wet weather. Is there a danger of running lipos in wet weather? Thanks.
It appears from the picture of the chassis that you put some kind of plastic cover over the esc and receiver. Can you tell me about that?
Zero problem with lipos and water - fresh water, that is. You can submerge them fully, no problem.
I put nothing over the esc that wasn't already there. Fully stock. Look at the manufacturer's pages for photos, you'll see what I mean!

So which do you prefer overall, between the Fazer and the TT02?
Fazer is an easy win. Handles better, steering is sharper, it's faster - or if motor and gearing were the same, it's smoother. Better suspension.
Tamiya gives you nostalgia and a range of pretty bodies. It can be made to look great and drive well, but the Fazer Just Works.
Nice racing action, I just picked up a purple hellcat fazer...did you guys have any issues with esc getting wet? I know steering servo is waterproof but not esc. Thanks?
Awesome! They're amazing cars for the money. Esc is definitely waterproof but the receiver isn't. That's the only thing to keep dry. I didn't worry about it but ideally you'd put it in a bag or balloon with a rubber band, at least. Still, it was fine. Enjoy yours, they're great!
how do they corner so well in the wet? mine is impossible to drive in the wet.. even in the dry it still loses the arse end..
Everything is stock, the tires seem to just be great general purpose treads. Could be also that this is a hobby track only and no nitros are allowed, so there's no oil on the surface. If you're driving in a car park or on the road, there'll be oil etc from full sized cars. Just a guess but that's probably the biggest difference.
@@RCTNT Hey thanks for the reply... I have been to that track and its nice.. it is a bit of a drive to get there though, I usually run the Fazer around the same sort of surface at some netball courts.. 1 thing is I have upgraded to a more powerful brushless motor... stock they do 40kmh, with the brushless and 2s batt and 35T pinion I get around 60kmh and with 3s 82kmh 37T pinion... I guess the mods make it easier to lose traction.
@T.W.I.T. 100% yes, lol, that'd also do it!
Does it come with low voltage cutoff function?
Yep
Great cars these! The link provided is from Hong Kong, How fast and reliable is the shipping out of there atm, Anyone know? I haven't bought from any of my normal dealerships there or mainland since covy delayed a lot of things early last year. Any advice appreciated as Im chasing a couple of these. Cheers.. Great Vid!
Depends on where you are in the world, but I get an order from ATees 3 to 7 times a year and it's always fast to Australia. AliExpress has also been excellent.
However, USA is geographically more distant and trade agreements between countries may impact shipping and duty costs. But Fwiw, I pursued an affiliate agreement with Asiatees because I've been a huge fan for years. They're great.
@@RCTNT Ah sorry man Im in Western Australia..So its pretty quick ay?
Oh right, yep, you'll be fine.
There's another option, look at Crazy Hobbies on ebay. They have 22% off for ebay plus members at the moment. That translates to a bigger discount than you'll find anywhere, as eBay comes to the table with the discounts. You'll get an unbeatable deal there currently for a Fazer mk2 if you look today. It might last a few more days yet but this kind of discount happens with crazy hobbies twice or maybe three times a year. Not usually this big. Good timing for a great deal.
One example: www.ebay.com.au/itm/115638237468
($379 with $83.38 off currently.)
After a wet run is it okay to dry them with warm heat?
Sure, just not so warm that you damage anything! Home heating vents should be OK, though I don't do that myself. A friend does it regularly though and has only had issues with 3d printed PLA parts wilting a bit. Standard plastics seem fine.
@@RCTNT awesome, thanks for the reply. I just to my new Fazer out in the wet and instantly regretted it when I took the body off 😩 I flipped it upside down and got the stones out then dried off with a cloth and finally left it in the boiler room for half hour. These cars are so much fun, very surprised how well they handle stock
I'm sure it'll be fine. These things are great!
