  • The Stone Cuts Trail is a 2.4 mile, heavily trafficked loop trail in Monte Sano State Park, near Huntsville, Alabama. This is an easy to moderately difficulty trail due to some altitude gain/loss as you hike down off of Monte Sano, up a ridge, then back down to the valley and back up to the top of Monte Sano again. But it is suitable for all skill levels and is a favorite among upper grade school age children and older.
The weather was beautiful. The temperature was warm, but not hot and the skies clear and the trail was damp, but not muddy. It was a beautiful day for a hike. The Stone Cuts are a series of small/short caves that were formed when a portion of a limestone cliff wall broke off and slid a short distance downhill in the distant past. The trail basically follows the path of the crack in the rocks and ducks in and out of a series of short caves, making for endlessly interesting exploration of the local geology without the fear-factor of "real" caves. I have been hiking this trail for almost 20 years now and I never really tire of it.

if you like rock features you have to go to horsepens 40. Weekends will be busy so go on a weekday for less people. There is a small fee since its a privately owned park.

@@SoutheasternFrontiers very popular climbing area that’s why it will be busy any given dry weekend. It’s a beautiful area though you definitely should check it out sometime.

Glad you like it! I created that little moving dot on the map animation using Blender (blender.org), which is also what I used to create my title sequence.
