Thanks for reposting ... great to see the project at the start. Am newbie to WMSR and have just started participating in 1309s rebuild ... there is a light at the end of the tunnel!!!
This is a really nice video of the lift and setup for transport to WMSR. Thank you for posting it. I had the chance to see UP move the 4014 through central Utah on the way to Cheyenne although I had only a still camera. I got a few nice shots of it in Milford and running north toward Toole, Utah. I am glad that so many of the steamers that were retired before they were worn out are getting restored to operation. I got to help on SP 2353 at the Pacific SW Railroad Museum in Campo, CA and learned to fire oil burners at Roaring Camp, so I was around steamers for quite a while and I love them.
I didn't ever think I would ever see a locomotive as heavy as the C&O H-6 be lifted in the air. I remember being blown away when I was ten when I was told how heavy it was.
hmm thats big and strangely I have never heard of the loco till tonight aug 5, 2014 205 am but it is a mallet style loco with two sets of drivers and very large, and just when I thought I knew about most of the steam engines out there fit to run like pm 1225 and npk 765
Why does pointless noisy electric guitar sound have to be added to this video? I once watched Hulcher rerail one of the Minnesota Zephyr engines at the Mckusick road crossing as it had hit a chunk of ice and headed for the golf course. They didn't find the chunk of ice, but I guess it doesn't take much to do it. It's gone now and is a new popular bike trail.
But the alleghenys top speed is 60 mph, and I thought the required speed to run excursions was 80+. So how is an allegheny getting restored for excursion service?

*Shove* that Rock Music up your... Nearly blasted me out of my seat! Plus, you need to *lighten* the video...

I was there in person, and it's still great to see the "Big Lift" on this video
Good to hear that this locomotive will run again!
It was cool seeing that B&O GP still in action
How about leaving out the music, and letting us hear the sounds of the work and workmen.
incredible! The guys next to 1309 while its being lifted must have been tense thinking of the weight of the beast!
That is spectacular, thanks for sharing.
I don't know why, but I like this loco more than the legendary big boy. It's not too big and not too small.
Outstanding video!!!
Absolutely awesome.
There's an article on this loco in the current issue of Trains.
Excellent video and story, saw you video on the OGR Forum.
• Cheers from Michigan
Good job!
Epic rock music!
it’s pretty much just a rearranged version of back in black
Wow and now it’s steaming
I am now your 402nd subscriber
big boys and big toys!, the bigger, the better
She needs a lot of work......hope to see her steam in person!
Close to 2021 and 1309 is nearing completion.
They need to restore c&o 490
That will be the biggest steam locomotive to operate East of the Mississippi.
UP Challenger #3985 has been east of the Mississippi, when it operated on former Clinchfield rails disguised as one of the Clinchfield Challengers
A Clnichfield Challenger that never existed in real life at that.
Clinchfield had Challenger locomotives. So did Delaware & Hudson.
I knew that...
I mean that Clinchfield never had a Challenger numbered 676.
Oh ok.
Nice Music, works well with the pictures
I like the video just without the weird music. How in the world did you get some of the best shots I've seen, I mean did you have to get permission?
AC/DC - "Back in Black"
Is it true that they have stopped on the 1309 due to running out of funds?
when 1309 operates at WMSR is the tender still going to say C&O?
why did they have to remove the front set of wheels to place the engine on the rail car?

1309 isn’t an Allegheny. Plus, the Allegheny’s had a top speed around 35-40 MPH.
What Music is that?
It sounds kind of like back in black, but it's not
Please song name
It sounds kind of like back in black, but it's not
And RadioDitch if this was scrapped i would be furious and you wanna make a foamer cry??? well i can tell trainandhawksfan that...
+Bruce Tharpe RadioDitch is just trying to troll.
that paint scheme is so ugly becuase its old. if i were there i'd paint it pitch black without the number or the logo damaged
Could have done this without the kids music.
Umm... this isn't kids music...
Scrap it. Keep steam off the mainline and make foamers cry.
