Especially dedicated to DreamloverLambi and MCLAMB4LiFE2 for helping me! Also dedicated to all my friends, subscribers and viewers, you know who you are! ;) This video highlights Mariah's capabilities in her golden years, this is when she could effortlessly flutter to the incandescent peaks of her vocal range and when she could descend down into her dark lows while maintaining tessitura. Her belted notes in this era had perfect placement, her signature notes in these eras were C#5s and F#5s. She frequently used her head voice here showcasing it's extensiveness. During this time, her whistle register was very flexible and agile - she demonstrated intricate melismas in that register, also with ease she could reach the lower 6th octave in the flageolet register.
*Vocal Range*:
Lower Register
=B2, C#3, D3, Eb3, E3, F3, F#3, G3 & G#3
Belted Notes
=Bb4, B4, C5, C#5, D5, Eb5, E5, F5, F#5 & G5
Head Voice Register
=C5, C#5, D5, Eb5, E5, F5, F#5, G5, G#5, A5 & Bb5
Super Head/Whistle Register
=C6, Eb6, F6, F#6, G6, G#6, A6, Bb6, B6, C7, C#7, D7, Eb7, E7, F7, F#7, G7 (The G7 peaks at A7!)(She showed more than an octave in this register alone!)
Please comment, like and share!

PS: I included the few Merry Christmas song performances into this video, as that was hardly an era tbh. I missed some tour performances though :(
The C#7 in Dreamlover is a D7. The G7 peaks at an A7 = 4 octaves and 5.5 notes!!

Hey guys check out my acapella cover of Butterfly by Mariah Carey czcams.com/video/6Eabr_Plwt0/video.html
Its surprising "Anytime You need A Friend" wasn't a bigger commercial hit. She performed it a lot.
And was the best song from the album
you say that when a whole never forget you exists?
She did big promotion for ANYNAF in Europe where it did better than Dreamlover.
@@MIXANDMTCH you sure? Cuz now that I know that now that I know exists
@@evil8569 now that i know is a bop but she isn't never forget you. 2nd best
She hit an A7 in one of her 'Emotions' performances in he Music Box tour.
Vulnerability the g7 in this video is actually a7
sentfromupabove She also has 3 f2s live and loads of a2s from Vegas
she also hit Bb2 so it's JUST out of reach of 5 octaves
@@sentfromupabove It's G7-A7
Her vibrato in this era is incredible
God her upper belts had SOO much freedom and resonated so well during this era. This is my favorite "belting" era of Mariah
her head voice has improved IMMENSELY in this era compared to her debut and emotions..there was a drastic change in quality, texture, and delivery..I love it
Her technique was at its best here, still that full vibrato sound, that kind of turned thinner and lighter during 'Daydream' era. She was amazing. I personally love her debut era because of that raw husky deep vibrato sound she had.
Daydream wasn't thin watch the undubbed videos lol
955pokerface it wasn't thinner. as someone else has said because 'thin' would be used to describe a voice lacking resonance as well as high-pitched and unpleasant to listen to Mariah's voice was none of those things except for high-pitched but not in an unpleasant way like say ariana grande and was still quite full but lighter which might confuse people a bit and cause them to describe it as thin.
No, I think it was just a stylistic choice. Her music prior to Daydream had a lot of soul influence, and I think she was mimicking the style of soul singers. By Daydream, her music has become more r&b/hiphop and a sweeter tone came out of that.
Marvin Lee her first album was very Aretha Franklinish
955pokerface Daydream was the best technique wise.
She only supported a few F#5s in Music box and no G5s live.
In Daydream, she supported up to G5 consistently with resonance maintained all the way no struggle.
Mariah was sick on the Music box tour thus dodging some notes and struggling with simple notes like D5s. However, on the Daydream tour she was clearly prepared and was consistently perfect 👌. Despite, some pitch issues which are normal she still delivered flawless performances every night with back to back high notes.
Mariah's voice is truly an instrument! :D
I'd call this era the start of her true vocal 'peak'. The belting took on a distinctively easy, soaring quality that stayed until the very earliest Butterfly Era days (mid-1997), her lows were quite a ways more solid than from '90-'92, and while nothing on her low range in the 2000s, still strong. As for whistles - heavenly.
B2 -- G7? Woah. She covered 4.7 octave live in this era alone! O_O
Bb2 - A7
@@sonilika9555 sis B2 and mostly air
@@sir3958 the Bb2 is just a D3. And yes B2 - A7
@@sonilika9555 the B2 has a peak in B♭2
And she basically covered that in one performance 🧿👄🧿
9:24 that resonant f5 !
FishOfJustice it's an F#5
It’s a Resonant F#5. Nobody ever acknowledges it but I believe it’s one her best in her career
wow, transition from head voice to chest voice is seamless in the Bb5 clip O.o Mariah is a vocal goddess
That gave me chills, I forgot how good she is
2006 was reeeeaaaaalllllyyyyy good for whistling, but I have to put music box ahead of it because in 2006 she hardly if ever went above C7 so I personally have it put it second
WTF THIS IS REAL TALENT
Vocally and technique wise I felt this was her best era. You can tell by looking at her perform that she was very self aware of keeping her throat open and larynx neutral. I feel like I'm the daydream era she changed her technique (whisper register, and raising her larynx for higher belting) because of this change I feel that's why she declined.
yes that may be very well true. but her technique did change because her voice changed. anytime the voice changes in tone you are doing something different with your voice. I felt like she got a little to high with her belts, she would just soar and soar up there. Although he had good technique nearly every song on the daydream era had these massive high belts in them. and during the daydream era she would change the key higher to songs before the era like "hero" and "make it happen" I think she over used her voice really . she already had nodules
***** She did except hero in paris. Just one performance where she raised her larynx. Others are flawless.
Marcel Williams I'm so lay but the change in time was in fact cuz by a change in technique. Here she is belting in the face mask with a heady quality (perfectly fine) but in daydream she belted with heady placement which proved better than the face mask for her.
j money I thought she changed to a forehead placement by Daydream which adds a sweeter and nasally sound
Edward Wheeler that’s what ‘heady’ placement is. You resonate in the forehead.
Those are 4 F5’s from the Joy To The World.
It was actually E5-F5-F5-E5
Vocal Quality,Range. she's amazing.!
That E flat in the 5th octave appears to be one of the hardest notes in her discography to sing because of the shape of the vowel sound and how high it is.
that B2 was lovely
Those "Dreamlover" whistles was awesome!!!!
It's not that she can do this or that. It's that she does these with unparalleled artistry and musicality. That's Mariah.
If her voice was perfect, it would have the tone and weight of Music Box, low notes of Charmbracelet, mid-belts of Music Box, upper belts of Daydream, falsetto and head voice of Glitter, whistles of Emotions, agility of Glitter, growls of Memoirs and technique of either Merry Christmas or Charmbracelet.
I hate her emotions whistle tho..charm or music box were better
Upper belts might go to daydream or emotions
This is an amazing video I love how indepth it is like you saying if the notes were staccato, legato etc.
Aaron M Thanks :)
czcams.com/video/yEBUXpXtILY/video.html my new vid
This is her best era tone wise. Anointed and gorgeous
The only artist that gives. me goose-bumps meaning she is the BEST for me. I adore like other artists but my Number 1 is Mariah Carey.
Amazing control . Great vid
Thanks check out my new vid czcams.com/video/yEBUXpXtILY/video.html
Slayed! Everything in this era was perfect. Love the MIH C#5s, the i'l be there F5s. Her whistle register was the bomb as well. Her tone was beautiful as well. Those F#5s as always were the bomb. That is HER note! No one can duplicate her tone and resonance up there. Love how every note her from B2-G7 was great!
D7, Eb7 and F7 are like science fiction notes! But it looks like Mariah's vocal chors were something out of this world in early the 90's!
Loool peak of her whistles are actually TEOM era she did all of her whistles live and sustained Bb6s like the 90s.
Charmbracelet had better Whistles imo
Music box and charmbracelet are better
Vocal beast!!
How does she do that, when she's Bout to do a high note it sounds very pleasing like at 5:14 when she sang LET you go it sounded so good. My forever wish is to be able to sing like how she sang at 5:14
Another example is at 7:04
That's called vibrato
+sentfromupabove how would you describe Mariah Carey voice? I think her voice is strong , and melodic, fragile, and sweet
@Amore Arusko Everyone indeed can produce resonance through practice but NOT ALL SINGERS HAVE RESONANCE. Don't you have manners? Calling somebody a "dumb bitch" doesn't make you any smarter anyway. At least be respectful. The world lacks ppl like that today.
This was my favorite era of Mariah vocally speaking.
Great vid! love the clips you used and how ya put it together, this is one of my favourite eras actually, my favourite 5 vocally are
1. Music Box
2. Charmbracelet
3, Emotions
4. Daydream
5. Early Emancipation
Pure slayage!
Genius
somebody told me that around 1994 mariah did sing miss you most at christmas time but it never be released...
+Rasyid Azmi Yup, she sang it on St Divine. But unfortunately only Joy to the World has released to public. Wishing that someday she will release it.
there is it on youtube. Full concert on John Divine.
Roberto CostaCantor There isn't
well now we know it isn't real
Srsly how to do her vibrato? It's really good and sounds natural, I wanna learn it
Yap Weng Hong neutral larynx if not somewhat low larynx technique
Amore Arusko a “neutral larynx” doesn’t mean their larynx is actually neutral. Neutral larynx means your larynx isn’t raised too low but not raised too high either.
Vocals only She is a Tristan fan, he's such a dumbass.
Practice and try to emulate
Great video, as always. The D7 in Dream Lover was unexpected. This has a really polished look and it certainly took a long time to make. This and the Daydream era are some of my favorites so I can't wait!
Music box era was the best in vocals becoz of fullness & clear melismatic style, plus this was the peak of her whistle register.
The Bb6 whistle of s0meday is very amazing plus the melismatic part in G6-G#6
Amazing video! I like all your era vocal range videos for Mariah. Brilliant work 😀😀😀
Honestly I will say Whitney Houston was an amazing singer she had a beautiful voice and was a beautiful singer but when it comes down to who’s doing it healthier and technically better. It’s mariah carey she had better breath control and everything. Only thing Whitney had on mariah was power! But other than that I do believe Mariah carey’s voice was better and just more ease and effortless and beautiful. Her tone and angelic is just amazing!
Who cares what you think… why even compare them? They were both vocal beasts. Mariah couldn’t do things that Whitney could and Mariah couldn’t do things Whitney could.
Whteiny>,mirah
Awesome video! I love how you made her voice lourder than the insturmental. :)
Wow, so she technically belted the same as/higher than Daydream live. Nice.
thank you, sentfromupabove, for the update, as always!!!
0:37 I'm confused this looks so much like a Daydreamriah
That was 94, daydream was 95 soo
@lilkeenan88 I completely agree, she did not lose her voice, she just has some rough days, and she needs to preserve her voice, so when she lips its for a great cause.
0:55-1:001 is just insane!!!!
This is her true prime!!!! People like to think daydream was. But lets be honest. She was raspy. Some pitch issues. No way hating. Daydream was a force to be reckoned with. But music box takes cake bb
@seansocheap Yes, I noticed that. I just think Music Box era was better than Daydream cause her vocal quality was in her peak in Music Box. I know she showed more agile and skill in Daydream era, but in my opinion, the quality of her voice gave life to Hero, Anytime You Need A Friend, Music Box, Just To Hold You Once Again and others that I know if she'd sung them in Daydream era, it wouldn't have the same magic. I believe that the same skill she has in Daydream she had here but didn't showed.
Rômulo Rocha Actually Both Eras Showed Both Insane Agilty But The More Agile Eras Are Butterfly And Rainbow
Mariah's voice is probably one of the most analyzed on CZcams. I'm just amazed at how certain commenters really put in the effort.
Yes it is! I was actually the one who started making her individual era vocal range videos on this site
Yes, she has different voice in each era. Very rare n unique
Great Video! All the people who say she has "lost it"...ur crazy. u do not lose a voice like that. She stills tear it up like nobodys business! Plus, if she was still singing like she did in the 90's she probably would be irrelevant now since music has changed so drastically. She has a nack for keeping with the times and her sucess shows that she, in fact, still is the greatest singer ever. records don't lie (i.e. most platnuim singles (female artist), ehem....18 #1s) come on peeople.
One of her best live vocal eras if not the best in its entirety. Thanks for sharing and God bless Mariah ane the lambs!
We are gonna need one of these for Caution Era soon!!!
10:59 Dat octave jump
love this vid. the audio quality was amazing and mariah too.
Her voice sounded like it was kind of tranforming, becoming more of her soft, head voice, whispery sound on lower notes, that after 'Daydream' pretty much took over her singing
Her Weapon Here In This Era Is Her Mid Belts And Whistle The Mid Belts Are Really Resonant
I miss this Mariah sooo much
Stfu
Astonishing vocal era
Around Butterfly I'd say, which largely in part because her music around that time was amazing.
True,in this era and mb tour, she had many F5 notes, especially in the songs EMOTIONS and I DONT WANNA CRY,& also in ILL BE THERE!But where is an A7 note?
Also, am I the only one that thinks this era is stronger than Daydream? She had the same amount of resonance and support on her belts her headvoice was WAY better in this era, not to mention her consistency was so much better
she hit an F#5 note after her head voice of G#5 in love takes time- 09:23
Best vocal era!! I love it!!
She had a B5 in headvoice on the Music Box tour. She went really sharp on Bb5 in Dreamlover
Yes an incorrectly sung sharp note lol
@harajukuphantom Mariah has great technique! The change in the tone of her voice has nothing to do with her techniqe. Mariah 's tone sounds different on every single album she's ever recorded with maybe the exception of her 1994 Christmas album and 1995's Daydream...those two have about the same tone...
music box & daydream was her best era, vocally. I miss her that way
Thanks! You really should list all the songs just to help your viewers! The performance of Now That I Know used in this video is the one Live at Worcester, USA - November 9, 1993 if anyone else is wondering.
airplanefreak27 ain't nobody got time for that
no matter wat happens, mariah is still my bestest vocal goddess!
I love this vid it really shows her voice and power off as well as her beauty and also u included her 4octave belts wen some people dont thank u but i still do think she can sing maybe not with she had but we a different voice thts got a richer lower tone but she still has power
In ATYNAF The G5 is actually a F#5 perfectly centered because this is the dubbed track. In reality, it is a bit flat F#5 and the fourth F#5 is F5
Yeah I've known for a while. I made this video 10 years ago
It means a series of notes sung/played in a connected fashion where they "flow" from one to the other (no space in between them), often with a sense of an 'arch' where the beginning notes seem softer and the middle notes are slightly louder and more pronounced.
Her best era in terms of vocals. Everything she sang was perfection!
@Jared95C He said she didnt care for her voice and had bad technique when she cared for her voice and has brilliant techinque...
My favorite era from her! Great video!
Excellent voice of Mimi ❤️
was this her last 'prime era' or was that around butterfly?
i love u for bringing this video back stupid CZcams for tryna knock down the lambs
MUSIC BOX IS THE BEST ERA!!
Hey! Can you tell me what concerts the whistles are from at 10:51?
They send chills through my whole body! so incredible!!!
Thanks!
@sentfromupabove from 1990-1996 , she did not develop much whispered sound, her belting was power n loud, starting 1997 until now, she develop the whispered sound which make her can go low n low (I think), she still can belt but vocally not power as her 90's.
Such an important vocalist,I'm watching 'The hundred greatest artists' countdown now,on VH1,and they have her at fuckin' 94! 94! And LL Cool J is up higher than her,are they crazy?! They need to revealuate that, seriously,I am really mad! Thanks for sharing, lol!
this era was the peak of whistle register or was the Emotions era?
At 6:44 x4 its F5
wow!..you have a lots of rare videos of her that i've never seen before...love this lamb!.. :p
thank you sentfromupabove for your awesome videos.
this is particularly awesome! :)
@5:48 That fucking Run gives me chill every damn time!!
@islandlife89 I believe she can manipulate her whistle register down to a A5. and her super head note to A6.
@kouldeliee She is a contralto her speaking voice is a D3/Eb3. I labelled the note type as it makes it more informative.
@comedymania999 Haha ! And Portamentio is a vocal glide/slide... That's what SentFromUpAbove said.
i literally think i would die if i had a talent like this and developed nodules. I honestly feel so much for her. Although can still put on an AMAZING performance now if she's rested and the day is right.
Yes I am aware, a singer can GLIDE up and reach a note while in the process touching another note, but the 'IF' in Vanishing did not go up to F#5 it stayed at F5 making it completely flat..
Her best era, vocally.
i believe mariah has a Bb2 in emotions Worcester during the music box tour.
love the E5's!! AMAZING video :)
Vision of Love!!!!!! Her first song EVER! :)
Without You is a gem !!! She is so waou !!!
I really think that her best eras are:
-Emotions Era
-Music Box Era
-Daydream Era
-Emancipation of Mimi Era
Great Video =)
I looove how you use some notes that we can't find in the others videos lol!
seperately executed notes hit in one breath
