  • Re-uploaded to remove all match footage from European Cup finals after the original was blocked by UEFA, this is a video that came out in 1999 called "Walk On - a celebration of the greatest Liverpool teams of the century".
    It's another Liverpool FC history video, but focusing on the period from 1964 to 1990, and with some different footage to the other videos.
    Jim Beglin is the narrator.

    Great film. I have been a Liverpool fan all my life and going to matches home and away since 1977. I had the privilege of watching some of the greatest teams this country and Europe has ever seen, created by Shanks, Paisley and then Kenny's team from 1987/89, I thought I would never see a better team or style of play than this side produced until the day I died. Enter Jurgen klopp who has created pure poetry in motion. What we have witnessed since he walked through the doors at Anfield is some of the most fantastic football this great club has ever produced and long may that continue!

    It's nearly 29 seasons since LFC won the league; from Shankly winning the Second Division in 1961-62 to that last title in '90 is 29 seasons. Fourteen league championships in those 29 seasons - won it about once every two years - but, none since. 3 decades of joy, 3 decades of hunger.

    LUFC fan. Grew up secretly admiring the liverpool football of the late 70s/early 80s. Kenny was my favorite player and I would put his name down first on my all-time XI sheet. Paul McGrath would go down as Center Half. Roy Keane in midfield ... and then I'd start thinking ... but Kenny was amazing. He could do it all.

    It’s the first time I’ve seen anyone mention the Reykjavik game. I was there, the Kop were brilliant, chanting Reykjavik. It was as if they wanted to level up the odds. Make it more of a competition. That was until they were cheeky enough to score then the chant for LIVERPOOL was the most deafening I’ve heard.
    I’ve often wondered what they thought of that demonstration of sportmanship in Iceland.
    Ironically the Cod Wars followed.

    As a non Liverpool fan, their dynasty was just special. Bill Shankly who started the Mersey club with 3 league titles, 2 FA cups and a cup in Europe. Then Bob Paisley took over with 7 league titles, 3 European Cups and 4 league cups and Ken Dalglish 3 league titles, 2 FA cups and league cup. I envy that Mersey club, whether it’s Keegan, Toshack, Hughes, St John, McDermott, Heighway, Hunt, Callaghan, Hansen, Souness, Dalglish, Gayle, Barnes, Beglin,Case and Rush. Man Liverpool not only ruled football in this country, but the world. I forgot Ray Kennedy who played for my club Arsenal, won more things at Liverpool than with the Gunners.

      Jan Molby also was a legend for Liverpool FC even though for most of his time there he was not selected a lot. He could play as a third Centre-Half or sweeper, as a playmaker in midfield. His greatest attribute was his vision- the passes he made, long or short was pin-point accurate and well timed. His greatest performance was against Everton in the 1986 FA Cup Final at Wembley Stadium. 1-0 down he turned the game on its head by assisting the equaliser for Ian Rush to make it 1-1; the assist for Craig Johnston to make it 2-1 to Liverpool and finally sent Ronnie Whelan on his way to assist Ian Rush to make it 3-1 to Liverpool. Two assists and set the attack going for the third- impressive.
      Peter Beardsley is another great scoring against Nottingham Forest in the 5-0 game at Anfield, a hat-trick against Manchester United in a 4-0 win at Anfield in 1991. One of his best performances was against Everton in the 4-4 game at Goodison Park in the FA Cup Fifth-Round Replay. He scored two goals to make it 1-0 to Liverpool and 2-1 to Liverpool. Also scored against Crystal Palace in the 9-0 match at Anfield to make it 5-0 and graciously came off so that John Aldridge could come on as substitute to score the penalty to make it 6-0, a nice gesture by Beardsley.

      I think they were trying to avoid a situation like at Utd when Busby retired but stayed at the club, making it difficult for his successors. Not helped by Shanks turning up at Melwood and the players calling him "boss". Club probably should have handled it better, certainly once Paisley had established himself.

    A couple of interesting things regarding Jim Beglin. He was Bob Paisley's final signing in 1983. He played in the fateful 1985 European cup final against Juventus. And won the double in 1986, playing in the FA cup final against Everton. Sadly he got his leg broken by Gary Stevens of Everton in 1987 and never fullfilled his potential as left back for Liverpool and Ireland. Jim narrates well, you would never have guessed he had anything to do with Liverpool at all.

    Liverpool of this era were essentially the best of a bad lot...….in no way were they as good as the Manchester United team of the 50s or the European Cup winning side of 1968......Imagine Law, Best, Charlton coming at you? Imagine Duncan Edwards against you?.....Liverpool were good but get lost in the morass of the 70s and 80s. To be a colossal side you must do the impossible and win the trebble……..United did this and Liverpool never did. this must break the heart of every bin dipper. The most romantic club in football and the greatest club in football falls to Manchester United.

    • @DaveWallerLFC
      @DaveWallerLFC  Před 4 lety +3

      How many trebles did Law, Best and Charlton win if that's your measure of greatness? There used to be a feeling that Utd had bigger stars but Liverpool had better all round teams. My assumption is that the level of English football varies over time but Europe is a more consistent standard, and Liverpool have achieved far more in Europe than Utd. Can't you just accept that both clubs have had great teams and achievements without needing to put us down?

    • @Azog150
      @Azog150 Před 4 lety +3

      Liverpool were the first English club to win a treble you divvy. League, League Cup and European Cup. Bob Paisley won as many European Cups with Liverpool as Utd have won in their entire history. Utd will never produce a team to match what Liverpool achieved under Paisley in those 7 years. Not even Ferguson could manage it, and he spent 27 years trying.
      And 'bin dipper'? How old are you? Fucking Tory shout that, which no self-respecting Mancunian Utd fan would use. My guess you're probably a bandwagon jumping Home Counties southerner to come out with shite like that.

      @@lyndoncmp5751 google it. The most romantic and best supported club in the world, I just bet it breaks your heart. No matter what liverpool ever win they will never be romanticised and loved by nations across the world, they will never be respected........your name is tarnished. Your name is known across the globe as a side that is on the dark side. United are the Jedi's and will always be loved as such.
