  • The 760mm-gauge Mariazellerbahn runs for just over 90 Km between the city of St Polten and the pilgrimage centre of Mariazell located in the Northern Styrian Alps.
Famous for the use of elderly Class 1099 Co-Co electric locos, I made several visits to the railway between 2001 and 2013. By 2013 the 1099s were on-borrowed time and were replaced by the year's end with new EMUs.
This visit was made in August 2013, a couple of months before the end of the 1099s, and, along with several working 1099s, I videoed the distinctive Class 2095 diesel-hydraulics, the Class 5090 railcars and 399.06, a Engerth semi-articulated 0-8+4T steam loco operating a steam special.

Fantastic footage thank you! I love the 2095 class diesel hydraulic locos, a lovely sound they make. What is the make of engine in these?

Many thanks for the update. I originally created the video in 2014 from the material I videoed in 2013 and think that I read it was then planned for NOVOG to retain only 2 1099s in running condition. It is good to know that the money (and spare parts) have been found to run a 3rd example.

thanks for the compliment. I use a simple Canon Legria HFR306 as I often try to take still photographs too.
