    Most important thing about mastering is, that your mix has to be at least decent in the first place!

    • @shoonrobben733
      @shoonrobben733 Před 2 lety +25

      I’d take your comment to another level.. the mix should be as good as possible. That includes balancing dynamics, frequencies, and width as appropriate. As a mastering engineer I’ve had clients ask me to redo their mastered track because it wasn’t loud enough. Truth is, I couldn’t make it louder because the mix didn’t allow me to without ugly distortion/pumping

      @@shoonrobben733 I agree! But for somebody just starting out mastering (so probably the average viewer) you cant expect the mix to be great, so i figured id word it less drastically!

    Multiband compressor for tonal balance in mastering has been missing in your tutorial.

    • @TraxtasyMedia
      @TraxtasyMedia Před 2 lety

      you should use a MBC further in mixing, because if you got a tonal imbalance on your rendered files, you don't want to go back and analyze for hours where you missed out on it. The mastering is the final step, when you are ready to print your song.

    • @11dime
      @11dime Před 2 lety +1

      @@TraxtasyMedia I get you. A plug-in like waves linear multiband compressor should not miss in a master chain. It maintains a frequency balance throughout the performance which to me is a must have for that final pro level sound.

    Loudness comes from mixdowns!!
    if mix is not engaging and clean enough, you could slap on unlimited amount of processors and achieve nothing but exaggerated version of the same shity mix 😂

    • @ancestralvision
      @ancestralvision Před rokem +1

      you are right, but i think the reality is a bit different from the ideal state, a lot of mastering engineers receive imperfect mixes and they need tu use their sorcery to make the single .wav premaster sound good, even tho a great mixdown is a path to a great master, there is still something that can be saved during the mastering process

    • @coldmotivations
      @coldmotivations Před rokem

      @@ancestralvision That's correct bro, lot of things can be done in mastering stage to improve the overall impact of the record!!
      Having said that ,having full control of the peaks in Mixing is essential for me because while mastering, peaks can get overwhelming real fast.
      Well, it's my personal opinion and I respect how other engineers go about fixing the same issues in their own respective ways 🙏
