    "Chinese new year" is one of many "Lunar new years" in cultures around the world, so it's perfectly fine to call it Chinese new year when we are talking about traditions and customs for this festival of Chinese culture.
    PS this video really shows the difference between traditions in the 2 different Chinas, in the communist China (PRC) people say " Xin Nian hao" and "Xin Nian Kuai Ler" for formal settings, but in the democratic China (ROC aka Taiwan) people say Xin Nian Kuai Ler for all occasions, it doesn't sound formal for us here, it's just like "Merry Christmas" in English.

    you must say “lunar new year”. not chinese new year. Did China make New year????
    New year made by Chinese?

      Chinese New Year is based on the Chinese lunar calendar invented by ancient Chinese 4000 years ago in that long period of practice. Of course you can call it "Lunar New Year" but it's original name is Chinese New Year taking regards to ancient Chinese's hard work
