I realize this was posted 2 years ago but super stoked to see an R/T get some local BC love! Had a 99 and 2000 club cabs myself that I ordered from the factory back in the day. Looking forward to looking through the rest of this series.

I vote building the 360. Besides some of the weird quirks, these are really great trucks. The 5.9's are stout engines and can run into the 400k mile range easily if properly maintained.

Dropping this channel a sub. I have an 03 Dakota R/T with 183k on it, club cab like this. Belltech lowering kit with Energy bushings, four front 96 Viper wheels, Cervini's hood are what's on it right now, got some Spintech mid headers and a Cervini's roll pan I gotta paint up and install. I'm all for restoring higher mileage Dakota R/Ts to their former glory, and then some! Rock on!

I have a 97 Dakota extended cab SLT with the 5.2 I’ve been looking at potentially replacing the motor so I can’t wait to see how this build goes. Plus it’s sad to see the dakotas so over looked by other mopar guys.
how about build the 360 to a 408ci blown procharger stroker with tremec 6speed transmission?
Also vote for building out the 5.9, while I always appreciate a good hemi swap, I vote keeping with the magnum platform. I just recently completed a 408 stroker rebuild for my R/T and swapped in a TKO 5spd to boot. Truck is entirely a new animal and makes me giddy everytime I crank her up. IMO can't beat the old school look and sounds of the magnum v8. Either way I really look forward to seeing more content on this build, very clean example too and off to a great start!

Boosted Motorsports has done a full Hellcat swap on a regular cab Dakota RT and it is awesome. He did the engine, transmission, computer, wiring, and interior swap from a Hellcat Charger. You should do the same with this. You won't be sorry.
@Rob Roy I wish I just had the money to rebuild the 5.7 in my regular cab 2005 Daytona edition Ram 1500. I am still driving it stock except for a small exhaust modification and a custom tune on the engine and transmission. Got enough miles on it now that I will probably need to do a full overhaul when I finally get the opportunity. Hoping that I can put a cam in it and some new Eldelbrock heads on it with long tube headers when I finally get around to doing an overhaul.
@Rob Roy Great idea, but I don't need to now because I recently rebuilt the entire undercarriage, suspension, steering, and brake systems. I replaced the upper and lower ball joints, wheel bearing hubs, rotors, calipers, brake pads, rack and pinion, tie rod ends, sway bar links, shocks, ect... I even got a new rear differential installed. Right now everything on my truck is new again except for the engine and transmission. Doing all that is why I can't afford to work on the engine at this time, but it is running fine so no big deal.
Love dak r/t’s . Should build the 5.9 first . I would like to see what’s out there for one , any weaknesses in the engine
Thats along my line of thinking, build the 5.9 first and then go from there. Only weaknesses I'm aware of is the belly pan the stock intake uses. I'll be getting more in depth with that in a future video.
The plenum plate under the intake mani, and the heads. The heads crack in-between the valves. EQ 2.02" heads fixes that 👍🏻

I have a White 97 Dodge Dakota 4x4 that is in very good condition that I am looking to sell. It runs great. Needs new steering shaft and proportioning valve for the ABS.
I spent the moon in my 5.9 and bang for the buck just isn't there....m1 intake, Edelbrock rpm heads,1.6 roller rockers,comp cam,comp roller lifters, double roller timing chain.mopar performance mid length tube headers, bored out throttle body 50mm, E3 plugs,hp fuel pump alot of cash and time.... pulled it out going to drop a 6.2 hellcat drive train in and call it a day got to modify firewall and swapping out interior for a 300s dash and console and seats from a Durango r/t....and it is 1969 Plymouth roadrunner Ralley Green with white call outs....see how it goes... gonna take some time I am no spring chicken anymore and this is going to be my last build and it's for me...done builds for alot of other people but this will be mine...and my final.....still tinker but no more full send after this for me......time for the younger generation to step up!

I have the 2002 as same truck either stage 3 trans , Paxton novo 2000 pro charger , and snow performance meth kit installed. I really want to see what you can do to the 360 so I can add to my set up!
Apparently you can check the intake gasket by putting your hand on the valve cover oil fill. If it’s leaking there is vacuum there.

@@omar__0rtega409 the 5.9 gots potential but you've got to put some serious $$$$ into it to get the HP and TQ most are trying to get out of it. Thats why more and more are doing hemi swaps.

....408ci stroker with forged internals. 600hp possible with a procharger 10-12psi boost?
@@MoparInsiders that would be interesting to see what kind of power a built 408ci stroker would make. everybody does HEMI's these days. Is a great motor... just saying. Something different and parts are not too terribly expensive

A Gen III hemi motor change with a Riley 4link suspension swap. And then it'll be close to perfect. Then it'll be time for the body and paint and a few upgrades on the interior. So a few bucks and y'all be surprised? Lol
Would like to see a hemi gen 3 swap with the 8speed. Most of what I seen done with these 5.9 doesn't produce the HP most are trying to achieve like you can with a Hemi swap with supercharger or a stroker build. But I will keep watching to see what you do as I'm in process of doing a build on my 03 Dak 👍🤘😎🤘
Awesome man, what are you doing with yours? I might build the 5.9 up first but a gen 3 hemi swap is inevitable for this truck at some point.
@@MoparInsiders 6.1 hemi w/ 8speed. Haven't decided what I'm gonna do for rear axle gear ratio yet. But first I'm gonna do some bod and interior work first and paint. Next will be a brembo brake conversion. Then once I get all the drive train then that will be installed, test drive, then dyno for a tune

I would love to see the 5.9 built up first. These things were super cool for having that engine and so many people just go for a swap or boost, but the 360 is an awesome engine.
