We will release one piece of content there every week. This content includes the return of Pretty Good, the first-ever Secret Base podcast, early release content, patron mailbags, longform written Dorktowns, and lots of experimentation or ideas we haven't even come up with yet. We'll want your help there. We also want a place for more interaction, for everyone who knows and enjoys Secret Base to go and know and enjoy each other. I hope to God "A full season of Pretty Good" implies Episode 4 is finally returning in some form.
What was episode 4?
It was about Stanislav Petrov, aka the man who saved the world.(it was lost at some point and Jon said it wasn’t coming back). Emplemon has a good 45 minute video on him in a similar style to Bois if you’re looking for the next best thing.
Has this been confirmed? I will genuinely sign up just to watch that episode
Usually when a channel puts out a Patreon info video or some sort of channel update they're just sitting in front of the camera with an info dump. The legend formatted this vid just like a normal episode. Legend.

Jon, your Pretty Good videos are, or should be, the template of what modern online infotainment should be. I sent "Dumbest Boy Alive" in a CZcams mix playlist to a girl I liked. I played the DeVry basketball saga *in full* at a house party, and everyone watched. Just a few weeks ago, I bonded with some new acquaintances by showing them your Lawnchair Larry tribute. And I still get a lip tremble and knot in my stomach every time I revisit THAT moment of the Bob Beamon piece.
In other words, you are a literal inspiration to a tired cynic who is inspired by very little in the world these days, and I will be subscribing immediately to your highest tier.

100%! I've never subscribed to any Patreon. Hell, I didn't even have an account there. But 2 mins in this video and I was already subscribed.
This will be the first time I've ever subscribed to a Patreon for a channel that has a corporate parent-I wish you guys would go full Defector/Second Wind and go independent.
This would be my second go around, but the first for me was Giant Bomb. I don't regret that, but I hope Secret Base learns a lot of lessons from those guys (both from successes and failures)

@@willow2893 If it's anything like what happened with The Escapist/Second Wind, they just started a new one and once word got out, everyone just canceled their Escapist donation and put it toward Second Wind (or, like me, signed up fresh because of that whole corporate-parent thing.)
If Jon ever ends up in an uncomfortable meeting involving Vox Media HR and some corporate hedge fund suit and we get a successor site (and I wonder how much IP would have to be rebranded because one presumes Vox owns "Dorktown" and even "Pretty Good", so maybe we'd be watching Geekland and Half Decent?), I'm about 99.9999% sure that as soon as the news broke on the Internet (or broke the Internet...CZcamsrs would be all over that news story for clicks), everyone would move their donation.

Details and background are too myriad to all list here, but suffice it to say the announcement was abrupt, wildly tone deaf, and burned 7-some years of audience goodwill overnight. They released a classic CZcams Apology Video™ after this weekend and hard rolled back the project.

Unsure. The last thing Kobe said of it in 2018 was that the rights to one of the songs was in legal hell, which is why it was never re-released.

Those random ass columns on absolutely anything that were on the Secret Base website from like 2021 were such a lifeline for procrastination in my old horrible job. I just went to check if there were any new ones recently and been rewatching Dorktowns instead. Will be subbing, love y'all
I unapologetically love Card Show, Ryan yelling "HIS NAME IS HAM!" while looking through stuck-together CFL cards is still an all time fave line for me.
Very reassuring to see they'll all be free on CZcams eventually. I guess given recent events that's more likely, but I like to think you'd have done that either way.

@@DuckyRubber7 A CZcams channel called Watchers paywalled a large amount of their content for a premium service.
@@DuckyRubber7another CZcams channel called the watcher built a platform on making true crime content among other things. And the other day they said they were making a paid play for where all their content would be. Which means their content would only be accessible by paying and they were also removing all their previous content off youtube as well. It was panned by everyone and rightfully so as they were leaving their fanbase behind, forcing you to pay if you want to watch them at all.

I normally don't like patreon stuff for youtube content, but I really like how you guys are approaching this. Making the same content available, but only later for free users. I hope this ends up being a home run for you guys, you make some of the most interesting stuff on youtube, even for a non-sportsfan.
I think of all the videos you've put out, your team history videos are the ones I enjoyed the most. But they also probably take the most work, and are definitely the longest in running time. So I understand if you can't really pump those out more than once or twice a year. They're worth waiting for.

Your Dorktown multi episode documentaries on the history of teams/players are my favorite by far. The more statistics and charts, the better. Oh yeah, chart party episodes are a close 2nd.

I've never subbed to a Patreon before, but the return of Pretty Good might change that. Those videos (the ones still up, at least) remain some of my favourite videos ever released on CZcams.
I rewatch all the Pretty Good episodes at least yearly. They are the greatest content I have ever watched on CZcams. This is terrific news

I am getting ready to start a new job and I'm broke right now, but this will be something I contribute to in June! I hope we get more Card Show; I find myself going back and rewatching the series at least once a year.

You have literally completely changed the art form of CZcams videos. You will genuinely be studied decades from now in universities by academics like how academics in film schools discuss Orson Wells and Citizen Kane. I really mean that. Because if you look at the state of CZcams documentaries and video essays these days they're almost all Boisian style documentaries. You've had such a profound effect on absolutely everyone. You're like the Beatles of online video making. No hyperbole.
In a few decades when the art form is taken as seriously as films are these days, your impact will be studied in every university in the world and I really mean that.

I have almost no money to spare (living in Argentina, am I right?) so it's very difficult to afford a Patreon every month, but even then, I can't thank you guys enough for bringing pretty good back. I had very dark thoughts in my head, and didn't know for how long I could hold it all in. But seeing my fav all time series come back is something worth living for, even if I have to wait almost a full year. You don't know how much this matters to me, thank you
