    CONTEXT:
On the morning of January 29, 2022, John O'Keefe's body was found on a snowy lawn in front of the home of fellow police officer Brian Albert. The night before, he had gone to a bar with his girlfriend, Karen Read, as well as some friends and acquaintances, including Brian. Not long after, Karen was charged with John's murder, but her defense alleges that she is being framed by the group of people who met up at Brian's home after the bar closed. Trial begins Tuesday, April 16, 2024 with jury selection.

Same thoughts. Be careful who you surround yourself with. The amount of drinking - with underage kids, to young adults to adults who have children and responsibilities. These were adults who were drinking and driving while a snow storm was coming. And going to an after hours party when you have kids at home. They don’t seem to know where there high school kids are - even though a major storm is starting. Just a recipe for bad things to happen. And I imagine the Aruba trip was just a lot a drinking even though children were there. I mean John being glassy- eyed and stumbling. My guess is Karen was the more sober, annoyed adult in that situation.

I’m not even a jealous person, and I would’ve been jealous if I was Karen. All these women seem to have very close relationships with John and they seemed to even try to rub it in her face sometimes such as giving ex-girlfriend home addresses as a point of reference to get to, the house party that night. This is absolutely ridiculous. I really hope the jurors see and understand that. You can’t tell people to not judge these acts, but then give them information that is obviously going to make them judge that persons acts…..and probably do them as worse than they are because why would they be letting us into the trial if it wasn’t somewhat bad.

I don't doubt that Karen has some crazy behavior, but she seemed to honestly try to socialize and be friendly with this group. She was an outsider. But she saw that John knew a lot of woman that he was very close with that Karen could never compete with (in the sense of having a close history with) and from the outside that can make you feel left out and less than.

Marietta Sullivan. What was the point of her testifying? Lally asked did you know who the defendant was or had you met her before? She responded: I knew who she was because she was sitting by the pool while I was talking with John earlier in the day but I had not met her. C’mon. We are not stupid. All these Canton women were in Aruba flirting with the godfather, “their support system” totally making Karen feel like an outsider. Marietta was gleeful at court testifying how awful Karen is - from a 2 minute encounter that happened 2 years ago. And I think John O’Keefe said “Calm Down” and Karen said “F You” to John not Marietta. But she involved herself. This is why I don’t have many female friends.

The thing is that if i would have to answer ”what is more likely; Karen backing in to John or a HUGE cover up?” I would answer the first. But if i had to answer ”Do you think there is even close to enough evidence to convict Karen?” It is a BIG FAT NO!!! Add the fact that her accusers seems like corrupt, shady and flat out bad people and I can not see any other result than a not guilty verdict. Why the hell was this brought to court!?! That also add to PRO Karen side.

I gotta share the first time I did CPR on a person. It was my very first clinical when I was in EMT school and I basically only knew how to do CPR, how to administer oxygen, and how to take vital signs. My patient came into a standing room only emergency department waiting room grasping his chest. Luckily, they took him seriously and brought him right back for me to take his vitals. They were pretty normal at that time, although his heart rate was slightly on the high side but they still made room for him in the treatment area and it's a good thing they did!
He had been back there for a few minutes when the triage area told me they thought I was pretty good at taking vitals and to go help in the treatment area. I ended up caring for that same patient again and I was instructed to give him oxygen. I was just finishing setting up his oxygen, everyone else had left his room, and I told him that I wish I could give him something from pain but I was a student. He kept literally writhing in pain and I just had the worst feeling because I couldn't do anything for him so I was slow to leave the room.
Then I saw the weirdest thing I've ever seen on an ECG and it was a trace that looked just like a U. The patient looked right at me and something about his eyes and the ECG told me that this was an emergency. I was very new and couldn't remember that I was supposed to yell out, "Code blue!" (I was like one week into EMT school at the time.) So I just yelled, "Help!" really loudly and everyone came rushing over.
The monitor had not beeped so, had I not had a bad feeling about things and because I was also a student and wasn't required to rush off and tend to other patients, I was there to see this merely 40-year-old man have what is colloquially-called a widow-maker heart attack, which is a blockage of the left coronary artery.
So after I saw that people were running towards the room, I ran back to the patient and nurses were yelling behind me, "CPR!" I wish I would have taken my stethoscope from off of my neck first but I didn't and I immediately started CPR only a week after I had learned how to do it for the first time in my life. I did completely ignore everything around me for the most part and just kept thinking of that song Stayin' Alive and putting the entire force of my body into those chest compressions. During that time, the nurses told me that I was doing good CPR and I would like to extend that same affirmation to everyone who did CPR on John. Good CPR!
I probably was only doing compressions for maybe a minute but time does really become pretty irrelevant. A doctor came in and told me to step back for the moment, I did, and he gave our patient quite the blow in the sternum. When that didn't work, I went back to CPR for less time until they had the defibrillator ready. They called clear, we all cleared the patient, and the doctor zapped him with the defibrillator.
Now this always seems to me like something out of a movie because one never expects movies to be all that accurate but, when they delivered the shock to the patient, his chest extended upward and his body nearly jumped out of the hospital bed. Then he regained consciousness and proceeded to curse us all out. lmao His main complaint is that he hurt like hell but, when he took a moment to see that there were maybe 8-10 of us all surrounding his bed with all kinds of machinery, he realized the truth and he absolutely wept.
He coded again a few minutes later but we were all there and the nurses had been giving him clot-busting medication through the IV so we got him back more quickly. This time, he came back and joked a little, plus he told us that he had noticed that he felt dizzy right before his latest heart attack.
I have long forgotten his name and I don't even know if I'd recognize him if I saw him on the street but that's not the point. You help people if you can when you see them in need and, seeing how enough of us care enough even when it's a person we've never met before and will likely never meet again, it has to be so much heavier to do CPR for a loved one and lose them anyway. I have friends who know but I only know this for pets.
Now this was back in the day when I didn't have a cell phone and didn't know where the hospital was where I had to report to my clinical so I used MapQuest. As it happened, there was a big forest fire on the path where MapQuest had told me I had to drive and I had no way to find another way to get to my clinical so I was just following fire engines down the road and eventually drove right through a bunch of fire just to get to that clinical. Sometimes the road to doing the right thing is the hardest one because it's likely that my very first patient that night would have died if one of us hadn't been there as students for our clinical. The machine never beeped the entire time we were working either of the codes he had.
When I went to drive home, I sat in the car and cried for a good bit. My patient had survived and I wouldn't doubt it if he is still alive. I wheeled him to the cardiac ward myself. I got lucky but I have a lot of friends who, not only weren't as lucky as I was with the survival of their patients, but had to deal with doing CPR on a family member or close friend and deal with losing that person. I think it was my third clinical when one of the guys in the emergency department ended up literally massaging his own best friend's heart because his best friend had been stabbed in an attack. Oddly, the best and most important jokes that I've ever heard and that we all needed came from the guy who had massaged his best friend's heart and lost him anyway. Still brings tears to my eyes.

Kerry Roberts testimony was really interesting. Her words and demeanor contradicted Jen McCabe in many ways. If anything she paints a picture of a terrible situation but with little evidence that KR was directly involved in JO’s death, only that she was very upset and confused. John O’Keefe’s mom getting mad that Karen left him at a party. John was a 46 year old adult, not a teenager. He had been drinking since 7:00pm. He wanted to go to an after-hours party during a snow storm. A party at the house of his friends, not Karen’s. And if Karen had been drinking he was seemingly ok with her driving. But adults being irresponsible is definitely a theme. Alcohol played a huge part in this tragedy.

Yes, she has both witness lists. They won't call every witness on the list though, it just reserves the right for them to call them. And they are in no particular order. I think over 80 people are on the prosecution witness list and over 70 for defense list.

Feels that the judge is being co-opted into the prosecution’s strategy by giving her instruction about the lobby fight. If so, that’s really problematic.

This judge has had to lawyer up. After she gave sealed federal records to multiple subjects of a federal investigation.
The US Attorney literally threatened to take this case from her. Said and you know I have the power to do it too.
Both the judge and prosecutor know Karen Read is innocent. They have just committed so much misconduct throughout this case. That they see their only salvation as a guilty verdict.
You would be shocked what this judge is keeping from the jury. Such as they know Jen McCabe made the incriminating Google search hours before John O'Keefe was found. Because they have the damn Google records.
The defense, prosecutor, and judge all know exactly why there were so many "butt dials". Because the feds got them all to lie under oath about not making those calls. Then brought them back in to confront them with the records. Like the Google records I mentioned.
Which would really clear things up don't you think? Hey don't trust that Jen McCabe because here's why she's lying. Nope instead she tells the jury not to believe phone records. Which she also knows wouldn't have any impact if she let the defense introduce the records straight from Google.

It makes perfect sense to me! I’ve done this when I couldn’t find my 20-year-old son! What should you do?! Just sit?!
When my husband was late from a photo shoot in downtown Detroit (before cell phones), I called my sister, my brother (they drove 40 minutes to be with me), and the police. The police in my neighborhood sent a cop to sit with me til my family arrived.
He was stuck in the tunnel from Windsor to Detroit. It was 4th of July. He did a city scape of Detroit from Windsor with fireworks. Beautiful!
But I didn’t know! He didn’t get home til 1 am. I thought he was hurt somewhere. So Karen’s behavior makes perfect sense to me!

There's no evidence to suggest that when Laura Sullivan testified about John's statements at the end of the trip and about Karen's apology and request to pay for at least part of Marietta Sullivan's room. If the prosecution introduces more evidence that suggests this issue lingered or festered beyond that date, there's something to talk about. Otherwise, it sounds like this issue resolved before they ever went back to Massachusetts.

Would YOU attend a funeral for someone you're accused of murdering where you'll basically have everyone there upset that you are there? Maybe she didn't go because she didn't want the focus on her. Lots of reasons why you wouldn't attend a funeral.
