Personally, I kind of wish I'd had spent the money from Satisfactory on more copies of Factorio for my friends.
It's okay but it just doesn't press the same buttons as factorio at all. You nailed it when you said, "there's no challenge". You get to a point in Satisfactory in about 50ish hours, where you realise you're automating just to automate and there's nothing else. At that point I usually just give up on my factory and take a break for a couple of weeks.
In factorio there's this kind of unrelenting pressure that's continually urging you to go on, to expand more, to get that next upgrade. It could be upwards of 200 hours in a single playthrough before you even consider restarting, but you'll soon give up on that idea because the factory must grow and you're in it forever.
I do like Satisfactory, I think eventually it'll turn out to be a decent enough game but it's not there yet, and from the speed of their development, it won't be for at least another 2 - 3 years.

Pro tip for everyone: there is a wrong way to play the game, it's called, you destroy your whole factory, build a giant building not having enough resources, becoming sad, starting a new game, building a chaotic factory destroying it building a giant and beautiful factory not having enough resources becoming depressed, starting over (now I have over 6 saves where I completed phase 0 and 1, than I restarted

Sure, it's an improvement. Factorio is a bit more in depth and technical. I've played it A LOT, but satisfactory seems more pleasant and relaxing. Factorio for me is efficiency and quantity, It can feel a bit "heavy" at times. There is always a new production line to build or upgrade. Satisfactory seems more laid back. And visually, satisfactory could probably be more engaging. I hope satisfactory gets AT LEAST the same depth as Factorio, that would be amazing. Never played satisfactory, but I really want to
