Kool-Aid Kids in Japan 1960 commercial

- An extremely politically incorrect 1960 television commercial for Kool-Aid, featuring the Kool-Ad Kids visiting Japan (evidentally in the 16th Century, too). Mel Blanc provides the voice of the Japanese Storyman.
- Krátké a kreslené filmy
I love how they specify the race of the kids just in case someone got confused
commercial bad, comment worth the seconds waste- I mean spent
fr it's so racist
This is my favorite anime
Agreed
Bloo Mooon 😂😂😂😂😂😂
it's definitely in my top ten, along with the Post Rice Krinkles anime
Red Army Robin better than Cory in the house
Everyone likes this anime
I preferred the manga
I think the anime was pretty good, the ending could have been a bit more like the manga. The voice acting was good though.
At The Last Manga Kool Aid Died, that was so sad
@@2idiot2animate28 well good he lives on in cool aid: kool aid next generation but it was the worse in the series
It was a whole less politically incorrect
Non dub
JAPANEESE-A-BOY, JAPANEESE-A-GIRL
A package make to four quarts cost only 20 yen
We were so racist back then
Mel Blanc Surely Did Gave A Lot Of Credit On His WWII Voiceover.
he says japaneesa boy, japanese girl
@@dylanfields3858 I miss when we could laugh at people
I love how they just reused one kid and called them a duo
Josh McCourt Ever heard of Siamese Twins?
Yes, Those weren't Siamese twins, They were just twins. Siamese twins have two heads.
FRom Siam!
Lol
I like the 60s
Ah yes, the four staples of every family
* Mother
* Father
* Japanese Boy
* Japanese Girl
One could say they are a good example of a Nuclear Family
These goddamn kids always complain about not having Kool-Aid; why don't they just bring some with them?
Good point...
American idealism....to get what they use to everything
I wonder if they made an ad where the Kool-Aid Kids visit the USSR...
u forget that that damn TSA guards wouldn't allow it?
Kool-aid? YUK.
Sits down to eat
No kool aid
“I can’t ingest this garbage”
Based
I love that they clarified that the children were, in fact, Japanese 😂😂
The manga was a bop, the ending was so sad where the Kool-Aids sacrificed themselves to save the kids, and I'm still awaiting the anime
クールエイド:終わりのない喉の渇き (Kool-Aid: The Neverending Thirst)
who are you so wise in the art of "clever girl" ......avoid the light novel though.....oof
but the kids sacrificed themself to save the kool-aid
@@rural_girl555 no that was in the light novel, not the manga or the anime
Dam oh no I’m out aid
WHAT IS THIS MANGA EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT?!?
The Kool-aid Kids: *"Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid, tastes great, wish we had some, can't wait!"*
Me: **questioning why they didn't bring any with them**
Customs... Waitaminute it wasn't that strict back then
Probably worried about destruction of property.

This was pretty big progress at the time. Only 15 years after the end of WWII, at least Japanese people were no longer depicted as evil.
Except breakfast at Tiffany where they went back to the bucktoothed war propaganda idiot schtick

The kool aid men in the fridge sang that song twice

did he really have to specify japanese girl and boy
yes
could be adopted boy and adopted girl :)
Yes.
I so remember this commercial, not to mention that I sang along with the jingle. Wow! I wish my high school education was as firmly entrenched in my memories as is this old commercial!
Bruh how old are u?!
Wow! The Kool-Aid kids found Kool-Aid everywhere they went. They were lucky! On my first trip to Europe it was rare that I found a place which had any of my favorite snacks.(Chuckle!)

Damn
What else could the U.S. have done? My wife's mother as a girl learned first hand the iron hand of Japan. She watched many killed for no reason. I do wish it had not happen, if Japan did not try to conquer most of Asia and slaughter millions. I am sorry for those civilians who were killed. But the U.S. was forced to do what they did. Japan could have gotten a lot worse.
That year KoolAid wasn't soo great, was soo radioactive
I don’t want to set the woooooorld oooooon fiiiiiiiiiire~~
*Japanese boi, Japanese gurl*
I believe you mean Japanese gorl
I'm Chinese American and I pissed myself laughing at how funny this was
Me too, took a big load when I heard the kool-aids chanting their name in the fridge
Im also Chinese its hilarious since they are Japanese
I showed it to some Chinese immigrants to American and been here for over twenty years and they didn't see how this was racist. Always some white person tho who is offended somewhere
You forgot to change accounts.
I pissed myself laughing at how you pissed yourself laughing at how funny you thought it was as a Chinese American. Thankfully CZcams hasn't banned it. (Yet)
I love that there's levels to this. Like once you think they've hit their mark. They are like nah let's make it just a bit more offensive.
Nothing offensive about it.

Can’t seem to find the racism part anywhere. What’s racist? A Japanese character being Japanese? Someone point it out to me…cuz I don’t see it
It's not racist though, it's funny stereotypes. Understand the difference
I lost it when the fridge opwned to the singing kool-aide pitchers lol
the kool-aid kids in Jonestown Guyana is still my favorite.
Dude 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That was actually Fla-Vor Ade, not Kool Aid.
Yeezus 💀
0:28 turn on captions
I don’t want to try this no fun way
We'd rather rice
i think that whomever thought up this commercial mixed Japanese and Chinese stereotypes.
HONORABUR KOOL AID!
imagine blowing up a countrys major city only to clown on them in a kool aid commercial
"KOORAID, KOORAID, TASTE GREAT......"
Mother, father, Japanese boy, Japanese girl
Now they are the kool aid diabetes adults. One had his foot amputated
Well this aged "perfectly"
I love that old-fashioned all-American political incorrectness in advertising!

Twenty yen was five cents, or four yen to the cent? If that exchange rate is accurate for the time, it just goes to show you why so much manufacturing was outsourced to Japan in the decades just after the war. Nowadays, the exchange rate varies, but it roughly hovers around one to one, or 100 yen = $1. Japan has to outsource a lot of stuff themselves, mostly to China.
A can of coke is said to have been sold for 50 JPY in 1965 (I could not verify but the quantity was probably 250ml). You could get 2 packs of cool aid for slightly less than the price of can of coke (if the rate is accurate). It took 18 years for a can of coke to reach 100 JPY in 1983. It took another 31 years for a can of coke to reach 130 JPY in 2014. 130 JPY is about a dollar as of writing. Japan had suffered from inflation for decades. As for the outsourcing issue, that is complicated. A lot of Japanese companies did outsource to China however it ended up with disaster after decades. You after 3 years might be seeing why right now.
The kids are in probably their late 40s or early 50s
More like in their late 60s and early 70s
Casual during its time......extra hysterically funny today.
This is Catchy
THAT GOODYEAR TIRE IDEA WOULD BE GENIUS TODAY!
no it... really, *really* wouldn't. there's a reason it's not still used.
Isn’t it just the precursor to run flats?
Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid, tastes great!
Run to the toilet...
(Poot!)
Too late.
Rickshaws in Japan?! And I thought they came from China. Well since it was the 1960's so nobody was geographically correct.
bigg34691 pretty much
bigg34691 Rickshaws were invented in Japan about 1869, after the lifting of a ban on wheeled vehicles from the Tokugawa period (1603-1868),and at the beginning of a rapid period of technical advancement in Japan.
bigg34691 it was also used across many prominent Asian countries
bigg34691 or cultrally sensitive days of systematic daily racism
They did say in “Old Japan”, maybe the koolaid kids are time travelers
It's playing heavily on stereotypes, but it's not presented all that negatively or damaging. I don't think this nearly is as racist as some of y'all are saying.
I don't think it's racist at all.
ahh, yes the, best japanese family.
mama, papa, japanese boy, japanese girl.

--- SUBTITLES ---
NARRATOR: The Kool-Aid kids in Old Japan rode rickshaws everywhere,
But when the kids sat down to eat they sure did miss their favourite treat!
KOOL-AID KIDS: Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid, tastes great,
Wish we had some, can't wait!
NARRATOR: A storyman who heard the kids then clapped his hands and said;
STORYNMAN: Why Kool-Aid keeps me very white,
Strong by three for big surprise!
Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid, so great,
Once you've tried it none can wait!
Honourable Kool-Aid, most refreshing,
Much loved by whole family!
Father, mother, Japanese boy, Japanese girl,
A package make 2 for 4!
Costs only 20 yen!
Just buy them with lots of ice, so nice!
NARRATOR: The Kool-Aid kids are off again,
To visit other lands,
Be sure to join them when they do!
RICKSHAW DRIVER: Join them with some Kool-Aid too!
Kool-Aid, Kool-Aid, so great,
Once you've tried it none can wait!
Ah yes

II so remember this and other Kool-Aid KIds commercials. (Don't figure out my age. LOLOLOLOLOL).
Heavily censored in the English Dub :/ you should give the subbed version a try!
Rickshaws and "coolie hats" are Chinese, not Japanese.
And Mel Blanc's "Japanese" accent is actually a stereotypical "Chinese" accent.
Rickshaws were invented in Japan. The word Rickshaw is deformed from the japanese word “rikisha” and rickshaws are called “jinrikisha” in japanese .
Ah the days
I Think Rankin Bass that made all the OG Christmas Classics made this as well.
Lol I can’t get this out of my head
Kool Aid Kool Aid tastes great, wish I had some, can't wait
I love this commercial
this is my favourite anime
Hopefully there will not be a Netflix adaptation of this.
Let’s hope
I rember these characters in the early '60's
1960's America, folks.
*OH YEAH!*
19 years after pearl Harbor attack
Pretty sure that’s the voice of Mel Blanc.
What the hell is a "storyman"? I can't find asny reference to such a character anywhere.
The story man is the person who writes the story for the cartoon or other film.
Are there any new or old songs about Japan of kids songs like from the 2000s, 80s or 90s, maybe 70s or mid or late 60s too?
I just wondered if there are more kids songs about Japan singing about more on the culture, are there any later one's existed?
And no not Big in Japan, Turning Japanese, there's other songs I never, before heard on the list I found was Lovers in Japan, Love Letter To Japan and Lost in Japan so none of these are not kids songs, they are entertainment radio songs!
Japanese Banana
i thought KoolAid was made in like 2000 until i saw this on MacDoesIt. WHOA.
At least the song was catchy as hell. Kool Aid Kool Aid sooo great, once you try it no can wait
OH YEEAAAHHH!!
What culture is this??
Is the little girl the same actress who played the Montagnard Chief's granddaughter in "The Green Berets?"
I from japan, and far years ago in japan market sales kool aid?
Kool aid is my favorite
Holy shit! Only 20 yen?
*A N I M E*
Whenever people are saying its politcally incorrect because it hurts there feelings but Japanese people take no offense usally
Mostly because last time they took offense, they ended up losing 2 cities to the sun
Wouldn't the Kool-aid man be considered a national disaster in old Japan? Look what he does to brick walls. The ancient buildings don't stand a chance. 😮
Ya-hooooooo1 I loved this commercial back in the day. (Now, don't figure out my age, LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL).

Was there a commercial where the Kool Aid kids go to France?
Those kids are like Great Value Linuses. (Linusii?)
Does anyone know who sings the song in the beginning
It's not about color of skin, it is about how thick yours is! Can we all just laugh at each other and have fun?
Oh yeah!
very catchy
There are commercials for the Kool-Aid kids in Japan and India does anyone know are there any others
to the mountains, the winter carnival, spain and australia
I was thinking about old Japan. Allied forces decimated old Japan. The Japanese soldiers were sadistic.
Not 16th century, that style of rickshaw got popular in the late edo period and early meji period. More 19th century.
Ok I think the story man might be related to So Hi.
I think I like the Kool-aid kids in Japan
This is the most cursed thing I’ve ever seen
Ah yea the signature family
Mother
Father
Japanese-a boy
Japanese girl
Those carts are from the Meiji era
Never shown here,wonder Why?
