- What’s happening in this Stripes movie clip?
During a US military parade, John Winger (Bill Murray from Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day) and the other misfits arrive by surprise showing off the military dance that they have prepared. They march to the middle of the road and start performing their comedic and provocative performance. When his superior asks him questions, John answers them in a mocking tone, and his team repeats after him. At the end of all the questions, his superior is impressed by the work that they have done, so he tells Winger and his men that they are going to Italy. This upsets Captain Stillman (John Larroquette).

What’s the Stripes movie about?
Hard-luck cabbie John Winger (Bill Murray from Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day), directionless after being fired from his job and dumped by his girlfriend, enlists in the U.S. Army with his close pal, Russell Ziskey (Harold Ramis from Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day). After his barely satisfactory performance in basic training, the irreverent Winger emerges as the figurehead for a ragtag band of Army misfits. However, his hijinks threaten to cause an international scandal when he inadvertently commandeers a military assault vehicle behind enemy lines.

I love the fact that Stripes never had a sequel. There was never a “Stripes II: Back in Basic Training” or something like that. Whether it was intentional or not they left well enough alone. Now it’s an unspoiled, stand-alone comedy classic.
Mark Viola ".. it’s an unspoiled, stand-alone comedy classic. "That's the fact, Jack"😊👍

Yeah, there are a lot of movies that should have done the same and left it at just the one.

Remake? It doesn't have to. Everything is reimagined according to today's social trend or climate.. Films like this better be made by indie companies that isn't based in Hollywood nor affilliates with them and avoid social media to market it.

Stripes was meant to be a stand alone comedy classic. Perfectly chosen cast. Truly one of the best in its time.
It was originally written for Cheech and Chong. They couldn't do it. So Bill and Ivan took it.
My late father (who was a soldier) watched this movie with me, and when it got to this scene, Dad said "The whole thing. They did the whole thing!". It was then that this became one of my dad's favorite movies.

Bill Murray was the Bugs Bunny of 80s comedies
Why do you think he was cast in Space Jam as himself?🤷🏻♂️
Interesting comment. Bugs bunny i think was originally not so much for kids but all age groups . Well none of the cartoons like simpsons or Flintstones or southpark ...are really for kids. Watching bugs bunny as a child i now realise i missed heaps of references to say Liberace, Maurice Chevalier ...and heaps more that i don't know .
You know, I always commented back in the day that I thought Bill Murray was more like Woody Woodpecker.
Well, this type of teamwork does tend to annihilate the enemy.
If nothing else it would have them helpless rolling on the floor.
We didn't like them anyway.
One of Bill Murray’s funniest films.👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
This one and "What about Bob"
Or... Caddyshack!
All 3 of those hysterical comedies for sure and I'll have to add his Christmas classic "Scrooged" ("the b*tch hit me with a toaster") with Bobcat Goldthwaite, Buster Poindexter, Carol Kane, etc. Groundhog Day was pretty funny, too.
One of my favorite all time films. You know if you let Bill Murray into the Army it's going to be a party.
A reminder that the success of our military isn't about precision of a drill, but about determination to get the job done.

How I love the 80's. No other decade comes close.
My dad was in the Army, nuclear ordinance. His favorite army movie wasn’t “7 Days in May” - although he said he could see that one happening - or “Battle of the Bulge,” or “Saving Private Ryan.” It was this one. He said so many guys were in the Army that were so stupid they should have flunked Basic because they would be a danger to everyone around them, or so dang bright they should have went into OCS…and instead they went to Vietnam. We never watched Vietnam era movies, but this one was good for dad. He always laughed watching this scene. “They’d be on KP until Gabriel blows his Trumpet, but it would be worth it.” Miss you, Dad, always. Hope you’re having a beer up there with your buddies.
This is a classic for sure. A lot of the cast made it big after this movie.

@@kuhnhan of course
Jack Peters I was prior USAF and retired USAR. What really resonated for me is not the D &C, itself, it's about getting a bunch of unlikely, different individuals, with different mindsets, to drop our b.s. differences to function as a unit, in addressing a critical task, a tough moment , a dire situation and realize that WE could adapt, overcome and come out the other end successful and better for it.. When that unit cohesiveness shit kicks in, there is no force that can break that bond.. People are getting wrapped around the axle about how the story in the scene, and not getting the message, the lesson. To borrow from what you wrote, this is why this scene " really resonates" for me. Hooah!
We British soldiers thought this was based on a true story.

I could watch this film over and over again, it never ages. Just wish it had

This never gets old.
Had just completed basic training in the Air Force and was doing my school at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi Mississippi when they showed this on the base. Everybody went wild after this scene just one of those times in your life you'll never forget. I know I've watched it at least a hundred times🤣🤣

@@caza728 She would have said the same thing: "I was a child. I was in love. It was wrong and you knew it!" ; D
Classic Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and John Candy. Great stuff.
Classic Bill Murray!
That is one of my favourite scenes ever!
My friend who did rotc in school did this in a drill team demonstration the army instructor incharge was laughing so hard he almost fell off the podium he was standing on
They don't know how to make movies like this anymore! Nor do we have this kind of talent to chose from ANYMORE!
I enlisted because of this movie, I wasn't disappointed. Great 4 years
John laroquette, what an actor
Won so many Emmys that he asked to not be nominated.
Just the other week I was thinking of that short run series where he played the manager of a dingy bus terminal. I can't remember the show's title but it had good writing; maybe too good for an audience accustomed to wanting nothing but caricatures and gags.
@@charlieross-BRM Actually, it was called the John Laroquette Show and ran for 4 seasones.
I've grown to really appreciate him in recent years. Used to really enjoy his McBride movies.
@@gwine9087 One of the best TV shows of its time - at least, until NBC decided it needed to be 'fixed'. The network execs felt the humor was aimed a little too 'high' and they dumbed it down, effectively destroying it.
The time John went to an AA meeting, but someone had made marijuana brownies. That had me in stitches.
"Hi, my name is Dave, and I'm an alcoholic."
"DAVE'S NOT HERE, MAN"
John Winger:"Gentlemen, It's Party time Italian Style!"😀😁😎👍💯
Sean Young looking stunning as she always did!
My dad was an Army drill sargent. He would have loved this movie.

I am a German Vet. Vet from COLD WAR in ther 80th.
In German Army ( BUNDESWEHR ) we don't do this Parades with a rifle.
But we Germans saw this many times that the TEXAS RANGERS and MARINES
who had "A little own Barrack" INSIDE our German Barrack , do this.
And we saw this movie with Bill Murray a few years ago.
One Day we decided to make a bad joke and we came to the US Barracks
in the early morning ( only with 5 men ) with opened shirts and Basecaps
( German Soldiers only wear barets ) and performed a Parade Comedy Dance ,
similar like this, in front of the barracks - OUTSIDE the border.
The few US Soldiers on the place and in the windows who
watched this CAN'T STOP LAUGHING THEIR ASSES OFF !
We became LEGENDARY cause they told us that : THEY NEVER THOUGHT
that we Germans have this Strange kind of humor and can be SO FUNNY.
They always thought we are "Always serious , non - emotional Nazi Robots".

Weeks later Me and another Joker Guy ( with good english skills ) got
SPECIAL MISSION from our High Commander to visit the US Barracks every
Wednesday for lunch and improve GERMAN - AMERICAN FRIENDSHIP.
THAT WERE GOOD TIMES - Cause we made many DEALS with the US Boys.
They got GERMAN Army Shirts with "German Eagle Sign " and ADIDAS Clothes
and we got many US Cigarettes and Whisky. And the US Boys LOVED German
Beer and a special "Schnaps" called "JÄGERMEISTER" .
And we also dealed with DEUTSCHMARKS. They only had USD and
needed D - Mark to go Shopping outside the barrack on weekends.
This times one USD was Worth = 2,55 D - Mark
And we changed - ONE DOLLAR = 2,- D - MARKS.
So we made A LOT OF MONEY . In german Law = LEGAL !
And - as a SOLDIER = we payed NO TAXES !
GOOD TIMES - GOOD AMERICAN FRIENDS. Thanx to Mr BILL MURRAY !🤣🤣🤣

I was in the army in the 80's. We would reenact this scene and others at random times. Never planned. Just happened. Lol. Good times

I forgot Dan Fielding was in this movie XD
So did I
Not surprising, EVERYONE was in this film. :p I loved it as a bit of a whos who of its era for comedic actors.
That's the fact, Jack! LOL love it
32 years ago I was doing AIT there at Ft Knox Kentucky. I walked around the barracks area in the film. Brings back memories. It was updated to the " Disney Barracks " when i was there.

Having seen it in the Odeon Theatre in Winnipeg back when it first came out, seeing the extended cut was a treat almost 40 years after the first (of hundreds).
Still makes you laugh all these years later..Send in the RV......
You mean Winnebago
Damnit, Candy, Remis, Murray... thanks for it all. Some of the best actors/writers to ever grace the screen. I won't even call them comedic actors.
