    We went last year with my mother who got a 3rd party rental scooter and we were so impressed with how accomodating everyone was at the parks. It was really wonderful! The ONE thing we had trouble with was the buses from the hotel to the park entrances. For some reason the buses coming to our on-property hotel were 75% chartered motor coaches instead of the Disney kneeling buses with handicap access so we had to wait for the right kind of bus. But other than that it was awesome.

    • @LenBanks
      @LenBanks  Před rokem

      I'm glad you had a great time. It sounds like you were at Disneyland and that 'resort' doesn't have a Disney run bus system. If you were at WDW, then I think you may have been off property and that would also be the same situation. The great bus system WDW has only goes between their hotels and park on property, aka the Disney bubble. Hope that clarifies whey you had that experience. (oh I just reread your comment where you say you were on property which makes me wonder if you were actually at the official bus stops or at the front door lobby area. All Disney buses that go parks stop at bus stops at locations other than the check in area.)

    Len Banks, thanks so much for having this refernace out for people and the encouragement you provide to "go-have fun!" I called scooterbug today and we looked at the one that disasembles for transit, Resort Lite ECV. It is rated to carry 350lbs. and can go 20 miles, the rep told us to charge the batteries at every meal, that seems excessive. My Mother is under 140 what are your thoughts for the life of the battery? Also do you have any current information about the Disney with Disabilites? I understand you have to apply now.

    • @LenBanks
      @LenBanks  Před rokem +1

      oh that's cool they have on you can transit rather than need one delivered to your resort. At Disney, charging at meals will be difficult. They have limited locations you can charge. But just ask wherever you stop for a while to see what they have to offer you. I am of the mindset you should try to charge wherever you can like they suggest. You may not need it, but better to be charged more than you need than to get to the ned of the day and be trapped mid route with no charge. You likely would be ok as you mom is not even close to the weight limit and putting excess strain on the battery, but again, better dafe than sorry. As for the newer Disney process, I don't have updates. I believe at each attraction what we show remains the same. The only difference "I think" is getting the initial process for the day set up.

      we made this video before the formalization of the DAS system. We did get a pass at the entrance of some rides to go to the exit and enter, but many rides just let us go there directly. • @LenBanks
      @LenBanks  Před rokem

      Hi. You can go on any ride you feel physically able. Some rides are more demanding than others. But Disney has done a great job making most rides accessible by the scooter if you are comfortable transferring. As for battery that depends on the model you rent or own and the where you fall on the recommended weight limit. For example if you are 150 lbs and your scooter range is up to 250 the battery lasts longer. But if you are near the top of the limit the battery last less. You can rent different scooters with higher or lower ratings. I hope that helps!

      I just returned from Disneyland after renting from Scooter Bug and had a wonderful time. After spending two days in the park I never had to worry about charging the scooter. She was delivered to the hotel (Disney Pixar Hotel) fully charged. The hotel gave me a door stopper so I could ease the scooter in my room. I did find that just backing the scooter in the elevator was much easier. It took me awhile to feel comfortable but by the 2nd day I was feeling a lot more confident. I was able to go through two lightening lanes and several "single" lanes. A few times space was opened so I didn't have to wait in line. On the Haunted House and the Little Mermaid the rides were completely stopped so I could get on and off with ease. I never went through any of the back doors. Doing the Disney distance was so much easier with a scooter and I didn't come home exhausted. I did see that people complained on Yelp that their scooter broke down with no one to help them but for me that was not the case. All the rides required that I be able to stand and walk a short distance. I just hope the next time I come I will have the same luck. Highly Recommended

    Hi! Just found this video. Right before Covid I have a very major surgery on my left leg. Thanks to the inability to have proper PT or even push movement, I am left barely able to hobble around. I couldn't see anywhere to put a cane. While I might, if forced, be able to get by without it, I'd really like it for getting in and out of the Ladies room, fitting in shops, etc. Also, there seemed to be a tiny basket down front. Do you know if there is any way to upgrade that, or if it held more than it looks?? I always take a tote bag in the parks, and I always leave w/bags, I don't want to force friends to schelp my stuff. Also it looks way down front, and I'd be a bit concerned about someone grabbing my tote and running off with it,
    If you (or anyone) have any answers, suggestions or tips, I'd be very grateful!! I keep hoping I'll manage to regain more mobility, but I could barely make the parks before. No way on earth I'll ever walk them again. But sooner or later, my soul will need a trip back!

    • @LenBanks
      @LenBanks  Před rokem

      I’m sorry for your situation not being able to recover as well due to COVID restrictions. As for the parks and scooters you can work with the rental companies for different options. But generally they are all very similar. Diane suggests you consider a (cute) backpack as your tote so you can wear in when in lines and then have a carabiner to hook it to the basket so it would slow down a theft attempt. As for cane ideas you can again talk to the rental company for ideas but I was thinking if you had one of those footed ones it could stand between your legs while sitting on the scooter. Just some ideas to consider. Hope that helps!

Every disability has its uniques hurdles, but I think most are doable to enjoy the parks with your loved ones. I assume chairs are the same, but the scooters are usually moved to an area next to the ride exit and are 'fairly' secure. Chris, from Provost Park Pass CZcams channel, did a disability video as well in partnership with a young man who's issues are more serious than ours as we are dealing with bad knees and a mobility scooter. You might want to check that one out too. But your initial question is that in most cases the chair will be close to the exit of the ride vehicle.

      @@FrontRowCoaster Oh I think I misunderstood your original question. I thought you meant using the exit as the exit instead of entering through the exit. At Disneyland many, if not most, rides are entered through the exit as they were designed prior to scooter usage. I am do not have a list of which ones those are. Disney World has more rides capable of riding the scooter through the main line. With each ride, I advise you go to the greeter at the front of the line to ask for that ride's instructions. But they are great at accommodating you.

    How do you get from the resort to the parks with the scooter

    • @LenBanks
      @LenBanks  Před rokem

      Hi! Thanks for joining us. At WDW you can take the scooters on the monorail, busses, boats and the skyliner. Busses can be a slow process, but can be done. At DLand of course you just drive it. ;)

    I wanted to take my mom and dad they disabled old and Need a wheelchair. The problem is that there are also other health problems, such as after heart valve surgery, and neurological problems such as stroke, and I'm afraid that this will interfere with going in there...
    Thanks anyway!

      I do imagine there are many conditions that make a park too difficult to mange despite Disney's intention to accommodate. I'm sorry your parent's are at this place. I wish you well in offering meaningful care for them.

    Thank you. I sometimes have found that people without need of a scooter, don’t respect the fact that I need one- I am overweight, but if I didn’t have a mobility issue, I could exercise, walk, etc and help myself keep in better shape.
    I am concerned about getting on some rides with moving platforms to ride. I use a cane and have balance issues so not able to go on some of those rides 😟

      Thank you for sharing. Even with Disney trying to accommodate I’m pretty sure many rides just don’t work for all. I hope you are still able to enjoy yourself and time with family.

      No! The rental ones are large and not small or Light enough to handle that way. We bought a portable one that we will do a review video on as soon as we get settled from our move.

      New to this chanel and looking into things for my Mother who gets around pretty good but no way she could do a day of Disney with a bad back. Scooter Bug has a chair that you can put in your trunk, or truck, it breaks down. However, there is a piece that weighs 52lb that someone in your team will have to lift.

    • @LenBanks

      We were just at WDW and we chose to leave it At the station but could have taken it on. But we were able to get close enough that transfer was easy. I suspect Disneyland is similar but don’t recall specifically.

    I wish Disneyland would limit mobility scooter usage it holds up lines when people need to transfer over. It’s like anyone can use it and just say they have a disability I think people who use them are lazy whether fat or not fat.

    • @LenBanks
      @LenBanks  Před rokem +3

      Well I suspect you would assume I'd disagree. I find that Disney has done a pretty good job not holding up lines. Scooter transfers happen mostly while lines and boardings continue. Once the person transfers out of a scooter they enter the ride as a non-scooter person. The only delay is when there is a more serious disability and in that case I would hope you have a more generous opinion and not mind a bit of inconvenience to yourself. As for concluding people are just being lazy, that reveals more about you than the scooter user. You are correct, not everyone is the classic definition of disabled, but there are factors far beyond being lazy that lead one to use a scooter. I hope you will try to put yourself in another's shoes to expand your empathy and not make such a sweeping judgement.

      WOW @JetHawk! I will be using one at Disneyland for the first time soon and people like you are why I am nervous about it. I have Rheumatoid Arthritis which isn’t obvious at first glance. I’m awaiting a hip replacement and won’t be able to walk far or stand long without a scooter. You have NO IDEA what people may be dealing with and the reasons why they may need assistance getting around. Shame on you!
