The anticipation for this fight was unreal. I remember the late great Emanuel Steward saying he would love to see this fight, he sadly passed away before it happened.
Remember this fight like it was yesterday….. people forget donaire was a beast in those days… what rigo did was pure pure pure sweet science…
This is one of my favorites fights of all times. Rigo is a monster a master class
This was Rigos greatest performance of his pro career. Everything went down hill after this none of the other top guys wanted to fight him and the fans turned their backs on him too.
He was still having great fights after this but yes not against the top guys he was calling out. I remember not too long after this he fought that Japanese fighter who was like 6 ft and rigo was dropped got up and broke dudes jaw
One top guy made Rigo quit after 6 rounds though 🤪

For sure. People started realizing he was a dirty fighter too the forearms not wanting to engage. He did a lot of dirty tactics. You see Vs Loma he couldn’t do any of it so he quit.

Arum was desperately trying to make Donaire into the next Pacquiao but it wasn’t meant to be. Yes Donaire is a legend but Top Rank boxing is the top notch when it comes to boxers. If Donaire was on PBC he would have retired of undefeated

Nonito thought this was going to be easy but boy was he wrong. It was so dumb of him of not taking Rigo seriously. Overall Rigo was a superior boxer.

Rememevr watching this live. Rigondeaux never had a performance like this after this fight. Top rank basically black balled him and then when he was on TV he gave a lot of lackluster performances.
Si Rigondeaux hubiera sido solo un poco más ofensivo en su carrera sería fácilmente uno de los mejores de la historia, había peleas en las que era desesperante verlo ya que no tiraba golpes, de todas maneras siempre apoyé a Rigo, esta pelea contra Nonito es increíble, Rigo lo dominó completamente.
Rigo is my favorite Cuban boxer his footwork was beautiful and defense too. My boxing style is based of his, Pacquiao Lomachenko. Sucks that Carl Frampton and Leo Santa Cruz ducked Rigo and didn’t give him a chance to display his skills to the more fans. After HBO dropped him his career started to decline and especially with the Loma fight.

There is no doubt that this match is Rigondeaux's best bout. But Rigo leaned too much on the defensive, walking around instead of punching for much of the fight, which was boring.
By no means was this a Mayweather vs. Corrales type of match. And he's getting taken down, too.

@@rat909 Fighters can run when they're hurt. But I'm not going to watch a fighter who runs for 11 rounds and then gets in one good punch at the end. Boxing needs to give more weight to aggression in deciding who wins each round. By the way I LIKE fighters who can FIGHT while they're backpedaling, but not fighters who just constantly disengage, hoping their opponent will make a mistake.
