OP-1 My Sampling Workflow

  • I get more questions about my process and flow with samples than any other single topic regarding the OP-1. In this video I show an example of taking two random samples from cable radio and adjusting them into a VERY simple arrangement to show how my thoughts come together when using the OP-1; my favorite studio tool!

    I came upon your channel by trawling through OP-1 videos (as I have recently got one). The explanation of your workflow and the essence of what to look and listen for is very helpful indeed. Cheers.

      My friend is considering buying one. I have a deposit of 150 down on one and I'm paying more off today. I just know he's going to end up buying one. Can't wait to get my hands on it. Sorry my point was we'll most likely use them together. The thought of using 2 at once is very intriguing to me.

    I don't understand when you say write over? When I plug in my OP1 with usb I do not see any of the stock sounds in my folders just user presets and snapshots and kits I have imported. This makes me assume that you can not write over the internal sounds but I could be wrong please explain what you mean by sounds you do not mind writing over ?

    • @mikedegroff7766
      @mikedegroff7766 Před 7 lety +3

      I cant believe no one has answered you in a year... but if you still don't know, hold down the preset button (1-8) it stores it as a user preset.

    • @Psqwall
      @Psqwall Před 7 lety +1

      Nope no one in a year ! Thanks ! So this will store my presets of the stock sounds or whatever sounds I have in 1-8 ? Now lets say I update to the new firmware (which I still have not done yet) What sounds will I lose ?

    • @mikedegroff7766
      @mikedegroff7766 Před 7 lety

      Get the new OS now! you're missing out on Pocket Operator Sync, the Arp sequencer, Trem LFO, FM Radio, etc. what im describing is basically storing a preset as a Snapshot. I cant remember which exact presets are replaced with the new OS, but IIRC its damn near all of them. Its okay though because A) the new presets for the most part are excellent, some are reminiscent of old OS patches, but the new Voltage engine kicks ass, and B) even if you can't find an old favorite preset, the old engines are unchanged so you can basically just remake them! also a few guys at the Operator1 forums have the old pre's on dropbox etc.

    sir dj thomas. I have question if you have 2 samples (maybe from radio) one is 120 amd the other is 160 bpm but you really want to use 2 different samples in same tempo. is there any way you can make 2 different bpm samples match ?

    • @simonetarenzi3831
      @simonetarenzi3831 Před 2 lety

      With Audacity you can change the tempo without changing the pitch, then you can just put it in the OP-1

    • @djthomaswhite
      @djthomaswhite  Před 9 lety +1

      I believe you have to push and hold the patch button (1-8) where your sample has just been recorded to save it before it shows up in the list.

    Having trouble playing back sampled Snapshots. No matter what I do it only plays back the 1st sample......even if I select a different SS per 1-8, or whathaveyou....same when going down the list of snapshots and hitting the keybd, it only plays the one at the top. I cant find anything on the web so far about this.

      casey krupp I know it’s weird, sometimes mine are saved without me having to do anything else… Just in case I suggest holding down the number of the sound bank you’re on, saves a snapshot. you’ll see a visual of a red round progress wheel on that bank. takes like 4secs.
      are you saving to (synth or) drum kit directory called samples or user? also you can make your own folders when connected to computer and help keep your edited kits / samples named & organized & savedAs. . . essentially. think the preloaded kits will not be overwritten.
      hope this helps. & if i’m wrong Please let me know thanks!!
