I was a 20 years old metalhead when Oceanborn was released and a friend of mine lent me a copy of the album and told me he knew I would love this, as long as I loved “weird things”. When I got home, and listened to this song. I stopped the cd, and went to my record store to buy anything they had from Nightwish. And my love story with this band goes on, now on my late forties, and introduced them to many of my friends, who lately became fans also.
I remember hearing Tarja singing "Sacrament of Wilderness" in the cybercafe i used to go. After few other songs, i asked "Who is this band?" "Nightwish, a Finnish band."
I asked the guy to make me a copy of "Oceanborn" and "Angels fall first", but after listening to them several times, i have bought the original CDs.
That was in 1999, very nice memory ! 🥰
And now, i'm 50 lol
Thank you for continuing to share Nightwish with other people. Its very cool!
You did not know this song, of course, but after hearing the style, I think it's important to point out that every song is different and varies in style as well.
He might go away from this thinking they only do fully operatic singing, so he may never listen to another song; We know the operatic vocal is only a small part of Floors vocal styles or abilities.
When I introduce people to them, I generally pick 2 Nightwish songs that are vastly different as an example. :)
Golden oldie indeed. Maybe not the best song to introduce Nightwish thou, because they are nothing like this anymore, and not too many songs falls into this category. But I love this, since it was my gateway song to Nightwish in 1998. First song from Oceanborn album, and after just few seconds I was a fan already.
He asked for a keyboard heavy performance. That’s why this song was picked.
@@ProfessorOfLogick oh I didn’t know he asked. It seems like most of the keyboard heavy songs are older. If he wanted Tuomas playing with the slanted keyboard, The Siren would have been a good one. There’s a good visual of it when he’s playing the solo in the End of an Era. Still, to know who Nightwish is is going to take more than one song.
Yeah as an old Nighwish fan since the late 90s i like it since this is maybe the most Tarja like performance that Floor ever did. Not that i don't like her other style, but Tarja was in the end who made me love this band.
@@beldin2987 I became a fan with Tarja but I do prefer Floor. I prefer Tarja’s solo career over her time with Nightwish because she shows much more variety in her performances now. Also in case you guys don’t know Tarja is a lot of fun to follow on social media. She is a real goofball😁👍🏻
@@ProfessorOfLogick For me there are some pieces i prefer Floor and others where i prefer Tarja. It maybe even change on my daily mood. In the end i love both and Floor has more variation but Tarja has just a very special kind of magic at some songs. Just watch "Swanheart" and "Walking in the air" from the "From Wishes to Eternity Concert" .. thats just pure magic 😍😍
My pick would have been "Shudder before the beautiful", with Tuomas and Emppu going into a keyboard-guitar solo battle.
Thank you to introducing Nightwish other artist. Dizzy get Floor in "full opera mode":). Btw Guns N Roses and Nightwish played last year same day in Hellfest Festival 2022 in France. Nightwish was headliner in main stage 2 and GnR Main stage 1. GnR started play just about 15 min after Nightwish ended their set.😀
Which is still a sore subject with a lot of people since they didn't play at night. It was like uh...
The guys from Gn'R were probably too hammered to remember that
Dizzy wow!, So cool having him on board. If only we knew who you were guesting next we would of advised something more heavier possibly with Marko too. This songs a great song but Floor had decided to sing it move like Tarja since it came from her era as a way to show respect rather in her usual vocal style. Thank you
If this was the first song I'd heard from Nightwish, I probably wouldn't have gone any further. It's good, of course. But I'd have labelled Floor as an operatic singer and that sort of thing doesn't do much for me. I'm glad I got introduced to Nightwish through other songs and continued down the rabbithole, so I can enjoy songs like this as something a bit different.
Unfortunately, something very similar happened to me, years ago, and i only re-found and fell in love with Nightwish a year ago. Really too bad, but at least I found them again!
Didn't have the time to read all the other comments, but just in case nobody has told this yet, Dizzy might enjoy knowing that Nightwish's keyboardist/composer Tuomas Holopainen had no interest in metal music until his school's foreign exchange partner took him to see Metallica and Guns N' Roses in America, and he became hooked & decided to become a musician instead of a biologist, which had been his ambition from early childhood. And, by the way, Floor Jansen also wanted to become a biologist until at 16 years of age she saw the Dutch band The Gathering & its front woman Anneke van Giersbergen on stage.
If I am not mistaken, the show Tuomas went to was the Gun's and Metallica show with none other than Body Count as the opener.

Dizzy's face.... unforgettable!!
I've have not seen this performance before. Yet I have seen Nightwish live here in Finland couple of times - obviously as I live here. Great guests you have in your channel. You are becoming my favourite reactor!❤
Same here! Joel is so funny and have such a nice and kind personality, now I'm addicted to this channel😂
Kai does a drum clinic for this song, also a drum cam...its pretty spectacular!
You definitely made a bold choice selecting a song you hadn't listened to, either. That said, this was my favourite song from Oceanborn, the first album of theirs I listened to and loved, so to me this is very much quintessential "classic" Nightwish. Thanks!
You got to do a reaction video to the Wacken 2013 Nightwish performance of the song
“Romanticide”
You got to react to this song and performance Joel so you can share it with others!
Me da gusto que DIzzy Reed haga este tipo de comentarios ya que es una voz autorizada para poder hacer una descripción del video, me da gusto ver en un video a gente de Guns N’ Roses y Nigtwish, 2 bandas grandiosas
To show the versatile of Floor Jansen your friend should listen to the song Disdain , Floor in her former band Revamp. A blond, growling Floor, awesome
Hey, Dizzy! Love your work! Tokyo was wild, huh? Ty "Nemo" or "Wish I Had An Angel". I love the old songs, 1996 -2003, but from 2004 they just got so much better in my opinion. You looked a bit stunned by Floor's operatics - I was when Tarja sang this! Love the keys and guitar in synch at the end! Bad back from low keyboards!? Me too! The whole Tampere show was top class! Good job, Roadie!
Need to have Slash check out Romanticide......or Fortus....
Guns n Roses are going to play at the same festival in Oslo Norway in June. Tons of Rock. Guns on wednesday and Nightwish on Thursday.
Niceeee. Dizzy is a legend. 🤘🤘🤘It would be time to check out his buddy Michael Monroe's solo stuff. The new album even has a guitar solo from Slash. 😎
Or this amazing clip from Slash's concert where Michael performs We're All Gonna Die with Slash.

Nightwish and Lovebites are my favorite bands, both bands are awesome! And i love Floor Jansen, she is the Valkyre Godness! I think the Wacken 2013 concert from Nightwish was one of the best metal concerts ever! But Tampere was also phänomenal! Check out their last song of this concert - The greatest show on earth - this is epic!!!
🤩👌💥💯🎼
Oups, what a track pulled up randomly...
🤘😎 🇫🇮 💙
This song doesn’t really reflect Nightwish nor does any other individual song of theirs because they are so versitale. Especially with Floor. He should check out the latest album… the songs Pan, Tribal, Music etc…
lol that's like asking someone to listen to Guns N' Roses and suggesting Chinese Democracy.
I am surprised that you chose this song as it's one of the few where Floor chose to stay close to Tarja's operatic style. I much prefer when she puts her own spin on the other singers' songs and gives them some grit.
The guest is a keyboard player, this song has a lot of that
You're right and Tarja sings this much better
@@emiltonramalho6468 which is a personal preference on your part.
@@emiltonramalho6468 since Tarja has always been a lyrical singer, any song with operatic vocals will sound better with her...but Floor's versatility and dedication got her pretty close on this one
@@clivematthews5296 and Tarja also sings Phantom Of The Opera better, though the version with Floor was great
This is like showing someone Paradise City with the current lineup on GNR, why not go with the original?
I WOULD HITCH HIKE CLEAR ACROSS EUROPE TO SEE A SHOW LIKE THIS.
My Queen summoned me again!
This was a great reaction, sometimes I get anxious when I see who you are plopping down in front of a video!
I think Floor was channeling Tarja in this one.
Hi Dizzy, from Jeff in Green Bay. I hope all is well with you and your family. I certainly would have selected several other songs for your first time.
This one is an older Tarja era song. As you can tell from the very operatic approach to the vocals.
Yeah I'm not sure why you would use this song that's not a typical singing style for Floor for an intro. If they like it, no other songs will have that operatic feel to them ( with Floor). And if they don't like it, they may not want to watch another one. I get if this was the second song even, but not first. Joel doesn't read out comments.
Thanks for a choosing this song and especially the "Tampere"-version. I assume you must have heard also from another Finnish band, "Hanoi Rocks" and or Michael Monroe. They had a strong bond with G&R and affected also their music back in the days. Slash comes quite often to Finland to play with Michael or with his band. Best Regards from Finland!!
Wow, you got Dizzy Reed to your show! Band-Maid was a supporting act for Guns N' Roses. Do you know if he got the chance to check them out, or will there be a reaction to Band-Maid coming?
Bit of a strange one to introduce Dizzy to Nightwish. Not very typical of where they are now. I am a huge Nightwish fan but this is one of the few Nightwish songs that I don’t care for.
Hi, beautiful reaction
Thanks
A golden oldie x
Good morning 😊, i have to agree, this isn't the best to introduce "someone" to NIGHTWISH. It is one for the more advanced ones. I am very happy to experiance a Guns'n'Roses PRO. Was in Cologne ??? german KÖLN: Müngersdorfer Stadion: Use your illudion 1 and 2. But it is always interesting to see, how people " behind the scenes " react to TUOMAS opus and his FABULOUS Bandmembers. Thank you for holding up the light. Greetings from Germany 🤗 and parkinson's sucks ⚘ and EMPPU RULES 😎🤘 alex
Parkinson? Did I miss something 😮
@@NightwishArena Hallo, no. I suffer of parkinson's and it sucks. There is the "campaign" PARKINSON'S AWARENESS. Don't hide yourself or those you love. Hold your head up high!!! Sometimes i have to shout it out. 🤘 Greetings from Germany 🤗 alex p.s the tulip is a symbol for us. 😄⚘
@@alexandrabarrenbrugge4585 oh, I'm sorry to hear that Alexandra. All the best for you and have a nice spring ❤🌷
I'm sorry to hear that, i worked in a lab 20 years ago that was making strides in Parkinson's research but bc the main lab director was also suffering with it, when he died I'm not sure how well it continued. But are there better treatments for it at this point in 2023? I have to believe there are right?
@@ToTheWolves Hi, thank you 😄. Well, research certainly came forward but basically the therapy, medication with l-Dopa and further substances, hasen't changed. And it still depends on witch form of parkinson's. In my case famous idiopathic morbus parkinson's. Though they found out more about the mechanisms inside the body, especially the brain but the colon (proteines) seems to have an influence, they still don't know what really causes the disease 😧. Though my setting is good, sometimes the drugs don't work. Then everyday life becomes exhausting and painfull. Sometimes the soul hurts. People who say i am an alcoholic, because of the symptoms and "friends" that let you down 😔. But i SHAKE it off 🤣!!! I decided to go tve scary way: Brain Surgery. I want to try a Pacemaker and transform into an Android 🤖 (sorry for my bad humor 😉). In the end all yammering doesn't help or others are happy. Sorry for this huge essay and thank you for caring. So, Parkinson's SUCKS but EMPPU RULES alex 😂🤗⚘
Dizzy about to go down a Nightwish rabbit hole there Alice.
Wait till he hears Nemo and Ghost Love Score, seen them live last November for the first time, Floor just had a breast tumor removed 6 weeks before this gig, awesome performance.
This song is not at Floor's comfort zone at all (and you can hear the band struggling a bit more than normal with this oldie from the power-metal days), but she still does a great job! Easily her best live performance of this song I've heard
Btw, while I would have preferred the studio version with this song, what a great song selection to showcase Nightwish to a keyboardist
You have probably done more work for Nightwish than all the other reaction channels combined.
Well... there´s hundreds of reactions channels which have been borbarding huge exposure for Nightwish since the Mrs Rona lockdowns started -20... so Roadie has still a really long way to go... but I really like how he´s making the band familiar to the other NA musicians. Props for that 🤘
@@ssc00p Reactions videos started way before lockdowns. But what I ment was no one has been introducing Nightwish to other musicians before. Maybe I was exaggerating but it's just cool to see these big stars reacting to the band for the first time.
@@PeeVee1979 Yeah... it is really cool 👌
Floor sounded like Tarja. It's ANOTHER thing she can do.
Everyone's intro to Nightwish should be Ghost Love Score 2013 Waken Festival with Floor, then from there any other song (cause they're all awesome) but I think Ghost Love Score highlights what Nightwish is all about.
Na, it should be the original lineup as with any introduction to a band.
Never been a big GnR fan. The Warning has opened for, toured with and played fests with some of the biggest bands in the world. The only one that treated them like crap was GnR. The girls classy as always have been neutral when talking about it. Pau who is tuff as nails cried at least 3 times the day of the show because of crap they pulled.
Dizzy doesn't look a day over 30.
Has to have some filter on...at least that is how I comfort myself 🤣
😊🇫🇮💙🪄🎼✨💯🤘
Floor doing her Tarja impersonation. Succeeding, of course.
I'd say more of a tribute
Not sure the right song for someone not hearing Nightwish before.
Romanticide (Wacken), Yours is an empty hope (Wembley), Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean (Buenos Aires)
🤣 oops
SO glad Nightwish got Floor, and moved away from this style of vocals in their songs. If they still sounded like this on every song, I couldn't be a fan.
why chose the most untypicle sopng nightwish ever wrote?
I don't understand why you didn't play any Nightwish heavier stuff for the guy from Guns n' Roses? How many times already?
Man, you were literally born to choose inappropriate songs.😁
I concur with others, completely wrong song to introduce someone to Nightwish.
For god's sake why don't you play to classic rockers some heavier Nigtwish stuff !?
I like most Nightwish songs including this one, but this song as great as it is totally inappropriate for this matter and it's your wrong choice of song again.
You should play to your rock guests songs like:
Master passion greed, Romanticide, Song of myself, Slaying The Dreamer, Phantom of the opera (Marco + Tarja), Tribal, High hopes (cover) etc.!
I'm sorry, but the whole thing makes me feel like you're playing to Genesis fans Sade Adu, which they've never heard before.
You heard one song from their early production. You know nothing ;)
I certainly wouldn't use a twenty five year old song (❗) to introduce a band to a new listener
If someone Wouldn't know Metallica you Wouldn't play any Song from Black album?
Horrible this version...
This is for Tarja's voice.
It's so sad when you promoting your sponsor on these "reacting" videos.... Maybe when you get followers, you get greedy?
Show songs you know instead, because this was not a good first intrudoction imo.
Should I watch this video? I was about to.
