  • Haters will say I only did this video to show off my legs. They might be right.
    For a long time I've had a problem with rain pants, they always get too warm when you use them, your legs can't breathe and you start to sweat so you basically end up being better off without them. As Im sure a lot of people can relate to, you constantly shift between putting them on and taking them off, this of course is not the most pleasurable thing and in some cases you might have to take of your boots and what not every time you need to change.
    Then there's the High Coast Hydratic Trousers rain pants, where all of the problems mentioned above have been solved, they keep you dry and your legs get to breathe. not to mention how easy they are to put on and take off!
    Thanks for watching! :)

    I am not a fan of rain pants either, as a matter of fact I bought a rain poncho this last winter. My main reason for choosing a poncho is that it also keeps my pack dry. When wearing a rain jacket, pants and using a rain cover for your pack, rain still gets between you and your pack making the area between you and your pack wet since it is somewhat exposed. But, if I were to buy a pair of rain pants, these are the ones that I would buy. I really like the side zip vents since getting too warm is one of the biggest problems with these types of pants. Another cool thing about these is that they pack down small and weigh next to nothing. I could see wearing a pair of these with a rain poncho to keep rain from running onto my legs from the poncho. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work brother!

      I totally agree on everything you just said brother, the poncho is a great piece of kit! it sounds like a winning combo with a poncho and rain pants! I wonder if they could make something better working from just the rain cover of the backpack… that would be interesting…

    Thank you, really nice video! I have been looking these pats too but I hate that the zipper doesn’t go all the way up and it appears to be a really sweaty fabric. However they are really light and nice loose fit. I have Bergtagen Eco-shell trousers which have the zipper all the way up, the very same as you use in winter videos. The new Bergtagen Eco-shell Light version looks like a hybrid between these High Coast Hydratic Trousers and the Bergtagen Eco-shell trousers. If you have time and possibility, it would be really interesting video to see how these 3 trousers compared to each other.
    Thanks again for the video, really good sound and editing too 👍

    Hi Ted, Personally I like 'Rain Pants' and always take them with me on a hike if I know its going to rain (or might). Certainly used them in Sweden when I was there and a lot here in the UK.
    I've not got the Fjällräven High Coast Hydratic Trousers but a pair of Mountain Equipment's version which work for me.
    Stay safe,
    Andrew

    Can you unzip sides all the way up until the leg completely separates? I have Black Diamond full zip Stormline Stretch rain pants, and I think that's the best feature about them, being able to put them on regardless of what is on my feet: boots, microspikes, crampons or even snowshoes. I always bring a pair of rain pants just in case, but rarely end up using them. 👍

    Nice pair of rain pants. I love the full zips. Many rain pants only go mid calf. Might have to upgrade my older pair. One question, with the pants at 10kmm protection, did you encounter any wetting out/leaking of the pants? Peace

      @TedWeirum  Před 2 lety +1

      none, they've been doing what I expected them to do since day one! of course I'm not always good on closing the zippers when walking so sometimes when im walking through high grass water tends to get in but that's on me! :)

      They have the same ability to open up the hole way on the sides. But they hav buttons on the side to keep it together when venting and having the sides open. They have a hook to connect the rainpants to your boots (thst something you mentioned that the FR in the video didn't have). like them because they are simple and light weight but still good numbres compaired to the weight. Waterproofness: 20 000 mm, Breathability 20 200 g/sqm/24h for 250grams in my size. I also like that they have loops in the waist so you have the option of a belt (eventhou they have a stretch waist aswell that works good so you dont need a belt, but the options good to have)

    Thanks mate, I've been researching rain pants and can't find anything that doesn't make me sweat more than the rain gets me wet. I've even got a pair of Graphene pants and those make me sweat big time. Just a question, hows that shell you're wearing? Any review on it? What is it? I'm looking for one that doesn't delaminate and does breathe. Cheers.

    Other expensive rain pants advertise with Water column and Breathability over 20,000
    But these have Water column: 10000 mm and Breathability: 10000 g/m²/24h
    Yet you say they are completely Waterproof and breathable
    Just thinking about how they perform compared to others and whether it is with so many other Fjallraven products that they are actually better than they promise ?
    Also wondering if I will get wet on my legs before my Keb Eco Shell Jacket gets me wet on my upper body. It should fit together

    • @TedWeirum
      @TedWeirum  Před rokem +1

      Hey Jesper!
      great questions! I can only answer from my own experience, for me they've been great! not sure if it is like you say that they are better than promised, this is very hard to measure in a real world scenario as well.
      you'd probably get just as wet on both upper and lower body at the same time, that also depends on what type of activity you're doing.
      from my experience you end up getting wet soon or later in one way or another, these trousers will prevent you from getting completely soaked.
