  • Follow along as I take you for a ride via POV as I ski every black diamond on the Whistler and Blackcomb Advanced / Expert 3rd Addition book . In this episode I now finish to ski the T_Bar Zone. At #31 we have Water Face which I messed up and thought it was 32 so the first one in this video is actually #32 Bitter End. This run is short but sweet, if you do a better job then me you can send it off the drop if you take some speed into it! For Water Face I actually went a little further skiers left and got some spice and went and hit Harmony Waterfall and for #33 I skied Die Hard Via a little bonus Staggerhome Chute which I previously skied in thin conditions.
    Thanks for watching and don't forget to subscribe as it helps me keep producing these the more traction they get!

      🤙 glad you enjoy it! I use to ski race so I know what the east is like and most times I was there it was cold and icy!

    Assuming this was after the fresh snow on Jan 17, 2024. It was such a wonderful day. Hoping for some more snow that will open up more terrain.

    I'm always sketched out going over the convex roll on harmony waterfall, it could be pretty bad if it slid with the exposure. Do you know if patrol bombs that often or at all?

    • @stanrey7
      @stanrey7  Před 6 měsíci +1

      They do bomb it and ski cut it but its always scary skiing over convex rolls even on a well controlled ski resort. I try to stay away from them as much as possible in the backcountry.

      I ski the with the Salomon sentry prime goggle with the photo chromatic lens which is a type of lens coated with a chemical that causes them to darken in bright light and become normal when in normal surroundings. I find these are amazing for an everyday use but if the weather is really bad ill use a low light CAT 1 lens.

    Do you carry a transciever when resort skiing ?
    For me as an Austrian it's just so weird that that is even a thing, to not carry one when skiing such terrain. I know that the north american ski resorts are controlled way more than the european ones but carrying basic avey gear would still be smart wouldn't it ?

      Did two years in Whistler and have skied a lot in Europe (I’m British). The avalanche control is not comparable really and the whole ski area in North America is considered skiable and ‘safe’ once patrol have been round (which does take along time sometimes on a pow day!!) so very few people will take their transceivers if they are staying in resort. In Europe I always find that the responsibility is with you once you are outside the poles… so the default is always to take your safety gear

      I always have my transceiver on when skiing on resort but I don’t often carry my probe and shovel when on the resort unless I know I’m going beyond the ski area ski touring. Like you said it is well controlled but it’s always smart to carry everything for sure.

      in North America the ski patrol control basically every significant start zone for avalanches in avalanche terrain before opening it, either via explosives or ski cuts, and then inspect results before making the call. Personally I wear a transceiver inbounds on pow days cuz there are still pockets that can go, and always a very small chance of weak layers ripping big (very small chance in coastal climate like Whistler but it has happened).

      it doesnt happen often but it does happen i can attest to that, thats why i always have mine on even when skiing resort! @@hobmarg
