  • Nikos Xanthopoulos sings "Tsambasin" and then they dance "Serra" from a old B&W movie.
The title is "H ODYSSEIA ENOS KSERIZOMENOU"
    (Thanks DIMITRIUS76)
In the movie he finds his lost father after the "exhcange" of population with Greece - Turkey of the Pontians of the Black Sea (Karadeniz) region 1922.
    The Song is as Follows:
The Tsambasin has been burnt (the summer retreat -holiday area above Ordu)
    And only the walls remain
And they have fallen to the searching
    Orndu's Strong men (lol)
    Oh mother it has burnt
    Ordu's Fields
    and there is nothing left
    Only the Ash
    Crying are Gods
    small Birds
They are crying like eyes of water wells???
    Tsamlouk is crying
    so is Karakiol
The beautiful pine trees are crying as well..
    The Tsambasin has burnt
    No houses will be left
Big and small (young -- Old)
    poor - rich
    Every sits and weeps

Words of çam and baş are Turkish words. Çam means pine and baş means top or head so Çambaşı means the top of pine. Besides '' hadi hadi gidelim bizim odaya '' means come on come on let's go to our room. Besides there are turkish words like yavru or yavrı means baby and ''yavrum'' means my little one and duvar (wall)..and also '' yar yar aman '' yar means beloved, and aman is exclamatory word that describes the astonishment, liking, longing etc.

@@pontian69 I think so, we shared beyond that! I think Greeks are one of the closest connected/relative peoples of the Anatolian Turks.

The pontian dialect is a form of ancient greek but no one denies there are some words that are turkish in meaning, you understand that pontians have 3500 year history in the black sea region Trapezounta,Samsounta, Just like the word "Istanbul" means Is Thn Poli "to the city" greek translation.

    I like this little conversation.
Filled with - how do we say - so much poison and bitterness. Its really useless to react on the comments of some people. On the other side, its our duty to show some people how far they can go, without losing their dignity. I hope i have never looked away when others tried to take away their dignity, when i adress something to them commiting in accusing them of taking away my dignity - without any substantial reason.

Zoramos, you miss the point. The vulgar expression I used before ('dog-head') is not one we Greeks use nowadays for Turks. It is a term used by the Anatolian Greeks at the time they first encountered the Turks who were invading their land. To them the invading Turcoman Oghuz tribes looked very alien indeed.

@Wildgypsie We had a visit also from Niko when he was in Australia. He came for about a half a day, I was a little older than you back then, I was around 15yo, and I remember he came, and visited my father, they spoke about many things that day. It seems that they had past storys of friends and relatives they both knew. I hink our families had been close in Pontos in the early 1900's. Its quite funny, in retrospect, to watch some of his clips on youtube and see how bad the acting was. lol

I am not a jew. Just because someone converts to another faith does not make him evil.
And i am sure, jews are also only human beings with all their faults, like all the other people. Things change when you see their role from a geopolitical perspective and when you compare the interests they are used to represent with what unites and what divides people. Ataturk is not evil because of the fact that he converted to judaism or because of descent, but because of commited works - if done.

No, not at a level where you can say this from the pontian culture resembles Lazistan and its people. Ethnicity in a strict interpretation reflects one's identity, language and cultural background. You equated Pontos with Laz and I am simply saying that, that is wrong. lol, the side by side and physical appearance argument does not grant someone an ethnicity.
Greeks and Pontians lived side by side with Persians, Romans, Ottomans, etc etc, does that make all of them Greek or vice versa ?
Italians look very much like Greeks and Sicilian Italians more, but does this make them Greek ? No.
