    "David Chase is brilliant." Opie talks about an e-mail few people got.
    He is about to read it. Soprano's final scene theory. THE END.
    "The ending was genius."
    "21 months between 5 and 6."
    Opie explains. "AND NO CHIMES." (Ending here: • The Sopranos Ending HD )
    Jim and Anthony talk about Tony's paranoia.
    Opie goes on with the explanation.
    "Why was the music synced up perfectly?"
    "That e-mail is crapola."
    Anthony has his own theory.
    Caller: "Blow your nose on that e-mail."
    Other callers give their insights.
    "I still think there's more to that ending."
    "How about some pie and he was allergic to it!"
    More callers and what they point out.
    "David Chase is brilliant!"
    "E-Rock is under some pressure!" Poor E-Rock.
    The killer in Tony's eyes? More theories. One shirt, one shirt, etc.
    "I'M SO DONE WITH IT!"
    Opie argues with a caller about the chime. "Why are you blowing up my spot?"
    "The killer looks like Dane Cook."
    "You people are just rubes and stupid."
    More on that damned chime! "Agree to disagree."

    I was pretty young at the time, but I remember everyone being upset about this ending. And when I watched it myself, I momentarily thought my TV messed up (which my stolen HBO was prone to doing at the time lol). Even back then, though, I just figured Tony died. Mostly because of that conversation he had with Bobby ("you probably don't even hear it when it happens") a few episodes prior and Tony's flashback of that conversation shortly before the finale. If the screen had gone black and the music kept playing, maybe I wouldn't feel so certain. But everything just went quiet without warning, kinda like Bobby was saying. Also, why else would the show flashback to that conversation if it weren't important? Then, of course, there's the Godfather homage that it was likely going for (with the guy going to the restaurant bathroom before going through with the kill).

    I didn’t see it as him getting shot
    I saw it as them showing that that mafia shit just kind of churns on.
    Almost every death in the show just happens and is almost doesn’t have any effect on anything, any other guy just fills in the place of the dead and things move on.
    I think it was to show that it doesn’t matter if he was killed or if he just had a nice dinner with his family, or if AJ kill’s himself, or if Meadow does law school or med school, or Carmela gets successful with business like Angie.
    Whatever happened things just churn on and it doesn’t really matter if they do or don’t happen.
    Idk just my take maaaaan

  • @benmiddleton3113
    @benmiddleton3113 Před 5 měsíci

    I think the entire show was just watching the collapse of a mafia empire. If you think about it, you watch from the beginning of the very first cracks forming, all the way to the final moments of the empire. The whole thing is through Tony’s prospective, that’s why we know things we think Tony doesn’t know, but he does, and don’t know the things he really doesn’t know. He was killed by the guy that went to the bathroom after Tony let his guard down.

    • @benmiddleton3113
      @benmiddleton3113 Před 5 měsíci

      I also think the reason the chimes come after the moments of silence is because Tony was first shot in the chest, leading to the moments of silence, just like Sil the episode before, but after this moment of silence the last thing Tony hears is meadow entering, then he was shot again in the head, as was usual with the mob killings in the show, like Phil earlier in the episode. I then think the killer more than likely killed the rest of the family, Carm, AJ, and Meadow. They then would have picked off the remaining soldiers of the sopranos as well as the last blood relatives. I think that’s why the movie was focused on the beginning because we already watched the very end. I think the show could’ve been called “The Downfall of The Sopranos”, but wisely was not, to add the mystique. Brilliant show.

    Ok but the thing is of all the people they killed in the show, ALL of the murders were shown in detail. The sopranos ending was a great BIG cop out. The writers didn’t have the balls to show tony getting killed because for at least 4 of the 6 seasons they were too busy trying to keep the fans happy. That’s why they killed christopher like they did (so dumb) because god forbid he would get whacked by paulie or by someone for being a junkie. The "exclusive" email they got at the start was actually correct in my opinion. They shouldn't have been so quick to dismiss it. The problem was the guy that wrote it was a bit of an idiot that was getting little things wrong and it made his shit sound incredible. But the overall concept was spot on. The way I see it there is definitely a pattern where we see Tony's face, hear the chime, see what Tony see's. The black guys were a red herring put in there, they had nothing to do with it and the shooter was the members only jacket guy. The guy walks into the toilets to Tony's right (his 3 o'clock by the way if you remember Chris warning Tony of 3 o'clock after Chris's coma dreams). When Meadow comes in the pattern happens again but this time when we see what Tony see's the screen goes black... Because that is what Tony see's in that moment, because as Meadow came through the door the guy in the toilets to Tony's right came out and blew out Tony's brains with a broadside shot. Plus they explain before hand that "you probably don't even hear it when it happens" or like Silvio said when he witnessed the hit at the restaurant "I didn't even hear anything until after the shot was fired". Obviously the sound of gunshots would of made it too obvious.

      You’re spot on - he was killed by members only jacket (Made in America was so title, Members Only guy became a made man for the hit); Tony was betrayed by Patsy (who hated Tony cuz of his bro and Patsy almost killed Tony himself and ended up just pissing in his pool then) Patsy knew where they would be cuz AJ told his chick who told Jason Patsy son, Patsy struck a deal with NY guys, and I’m thinking they implied Paulie ultimately fell in line with them and betrayed Tony cuz of the whole cat thing implying he was a rat.
