    Is Adrien just going to ignore the fact that his father abused him emotionally for an entire year by threatening to pull him out of school, preventing him from seeing certain friends, forcing him to do modelling, and even locking him inside a padded cell? He was a very mean and distant father who was quite cruel to Adrien, yet Adrien is somehow supposed to forget all that and remember his father as this perfect guy?

      Yeah! Also both times Adrien’s akumatized it’s Gabriel traumatizing him enough to get akumatized then using him to get what he wants. Heck in chat blanc he takes out his staff and whips Adrien into the Eiffel Tower. I’m also confused about the “tried to be a good father line” like when? He made pancakes but also forced his son into a relationship he didn’t want, tried to break up the one he had, abused the actual power he had over him to do so etc, and those examples were just from season 5 when he was supposedly redeemed. I also recall him saying lines like “I’m doing this for us” or “we’ll be a happy family again” meaning he didnt plan on giving his own life despite knowing the price of the wish.

      Maybe Adrien just doesn’t see how mentally abusive his father is because usually kids, who grew up in abusive households don’t acknowledge or notice how cruel their parents or guardians are and finds it normal behaviour from a parent.

      Now I'm imagining how good an animatic of Requiem would be with Adrien/Chat Noir (Zoe Murphy), Nathalie (dad) and Marinette/Ladybug (mom) would be. Adrien thinks his dad is this hero because of what Ladybug said and fails to reconcile that with how his father had treated him, Nathalie knows the truth and is disappointed, and Marinette is stuck in this delusion that what Gabriel did in the end was the noble sacrifice the show thinks it was.

    I dont understand how people feel bad for Gabriel. He claims hes doing this for his son, yet continues to abuse and manipulate him, while also hurting innocent people, some of which were Adriens friends. I cant even feel empathetic towards him because we barely know anything about Emily, the person he was trying to save. How is the audience supposed to care when we dont even have a flashback of her?
    Just because he had this one moment, suddenly people miss him, I know hes been the shows villain for a long time, but come on, he isnt even a good villain.

    Wow, I wrote a thesis...
    I agree with you. When I found out how the finale ended, I was furious. Five seasons to end like that was honestly lazy, considering that they were trying 'add depth' to characters. I swear they give the villains more plot armor in the show than the heroes sometimes (side-eying Lila).
    -Also, it's obvious that Gabrial did not have Adrien's best interests at heart. He basically kept him caged up until Natalie and Adrien basically forced his hand to let Adrien go to school.
    -When Adrien had friends who legitimately cared for him, he'd rather Adrien hang out with obviously toxic people who were (there is no way he missed this) only out to make his son a trophy husband.
    -He gaslighted Adrien all the time and abused his parental authority and Adrien's love to force Adrien to do things he wasn't comfortable with, including modeling, acting, and using his face for the alliance ring.
    -He had chances to fix things several times or stop what he was doing but didn't, including but not restricted to, the time when he had the bunny miraculous.
    -It's understandable to an extent that if his identity as Hawkmoth/Shadowmoth/Monarch (Pick one dude-uh sir), it would ruin Adrien's life (on an international level) forever. However, being remembered as a hero is way too much. Let's not forget Kagami's mom (Am I the only one who found her translation as an overly strict Japanese samurai woman a little basic?) also getting glory for LITERAL CRIMES AND THE EQUIVALENT OF STARTING A WORLD WAR!
    -Also, Gabrial tortured and abused all the kwamis in his care. Period.
    -Anyone also remembers his getting angry at Adrien when Adrien thought Gabriel and Natalie were a thing? Kudos that they didn't have the 'kid sees parent fall in love again and get upset' trope, but the poor boy just wanted a family again! He got more understanding and love from his mute driver!
    -And what was with the vague wish and price they gave us? I think they chose that cause they had no idea where to go because, let's be honest, the writing of this show is really bad overall. I loved watching this back in 2019 when I discovered it around the season three release, but the plot holes, inconsistencies, and horrific logic. (Picking fourteen-year-olds as holders of Creation and Destruction for no reason, but they helped an old man was super careless, and they didn't even bother adding an easy-to-add detail like 'when you've carried a miraculous form a young age, you grow much stronger' or something.)
    -If you read this far, let me say what I found interesting about this... If the wish was to reverse the damage done by the peacock, does this now damage the butterfly? Is this why Lila was surprised? Please don't tell me she had no idea what it was.

    • @amokalert
      @amokalert  Před rokem +34

      i agree all of this! personally, i don't think that the wish was to reverse the damage on the peacock because then colt fathom would be alive.....and that would be far too dark for miraculous. ALSO i don't really think they would damage the butterfly miraculous because of how young lila is (granted we don't know her age, but we do know that she can pass for 14). overall, the finale was really confusing and i'm not sure how the writers are going to be able to explain all of it next season.

    @amvcoven128 Před rokem +19

    The finale is honestly just so weird. Gabriel has caused so much hurt to the entire world in the past five seasons and he just gets a free pass. He was an abusive father who was also hungry for power and blinded by ambition to the point where he didn’t care what harm might befall someone else as long as he got his own perfect version of the world. Marinette shouldn’t have stopped fighting him after finding out he was Monarch, even if it was for Adrien. At this point, there was obviously no getting through to him and his actions actually changing these characters lives in a negative way would have done so much more for the story. He was selfish and opportunistic through the entirety of the series and seeing that gold statue of him was just maddening. I also don’t think that he should have been able to choose what to give in exchange for his wish- perhaps not because it didn’t work out in this case but because it completely invalidates the reason that the heroes can’t just make a wish of their own. In the end I’m just so confused about the world that he ended up creating. I can’t tell what his wish was, what exactly has changed, or what memories the rest of the cast has retained. Lastly, I find it very sick that Marinette seems to be going along with hiding the truth of what really happened from Adrien and not telling him the his father was Monarch. It’s okay to want him to be able to remember his father fondly but Gabriel didn’t earn that and Adrien can’t keep living a lie and not knowing forever. It’s not good or fair of Marinette to keep such important information from him, even if it might be upsetting. He will find out eventually through the message that Ladybug left for Chat Noir and unless Marinette talks to him first or hides her secret identity from him forever I see a betrayal arc coming along. Either way, the kid deserves healthier relationships and more truth than what he’s gotten.

  • @zsand0123
    @zsand0123 Před rokem +40

    I completely agree with you! What Gabriel did was not heroic or noble in the slightest! It irks me that the writer’s had to force a bs happy ending to the Gabriel arc when he really didn’t deserve one. Gabriel had the chance to give up on his selfish desires when he was shown pity by the one person who owed him nothing, Marinette. In fact, it’s because of him that Marinette’s life got turned upside down overnight when she was given the responsibility to be Ladybug. This isn’t to say that her life was ruined and in fact, a lot of what happened to her would’ve have happened if she wasn’t Ladybug, but at the same time, he put Marinette through so much. It was because of him that she had such a hard time pursuing love, it was because of him that she was forced into being the guardian at such a young age, it was because of him that she was even put in the position to lose all of the miraculouses in the first place. He even tried everything in his power to sabotage her relationship with his son because he’s stuck in his delusion that it was okay for him to control every aspect of his son’s life and make every living decision for him like he’s some sort of puppet. Up until the end, Gabriel even talks all the nonsense about how nobody but him and his family matter as if he’s better and deserves more than everybody else, even though he’s just flesh and blood like everybody else. Pretty ironic how a simple tailor who had no money could grow into such a delusional person. Despite all of this, Marinette still finds it in her heart to pity this man and offer him the opportunity to set things right, but he doesn’t. Instead of listening to Marinette and accepting that what he’s done is all his own fault, he decides to steal the miraculouses anyway and make a wish, knowing very well that he could destroy the entire world as we know it in the process, and he has the audacity after all that to ask Marinette to never let Adrien find out about the villain he became?! How absolutely and utterly selfish of him!! It breaks my heart even more knowing that Marinette goes along with this and lies to Adrien who deserves to know more than anybody what type of person his father really was. I hope he finds out the truth in season 6 and uses his cataclysm to destroy that statue because I don’t think I could ever be happy with the writer’s decision to pretend like Gabriel was this huge hero worthy of praise and adoration when it’s really the opposite. If he’s gonna take the cowardly way out, he could at least accept that the world and his son should hate him for what he became and understand that he brought this on himself. It’s frustrating to see the writer’s taking this approach to end an arc that lasted 5 whole seasons and was over 8 years in the making (not even including the time that it must’ve taken to develop the idea in the first place before it first aired in 2015). Gabriel has never and will never be a hero (at least in this story’s reality).

    • @zsand0123
      @zsand0123 Před rokem +6

      And one more final thought to add (since I didn’t really know where this could fit), I find it terrifying that this lie that Marinette decides to go along with could potentially ruin the relationship between Ladybug and Cat Noir and even ruin her own relationship with Adrien if he ever found out she was Ladybug. If Ladybug decides to tell Cat Noir the whole story, he would then become aware of the fact that Ladybug lied to him as Adrien. With this in mind, I could imagine that Adrien/Cat Noir would begin to really resent Ladybug for lying to him about his father despite knowing the truth the whole time. This could potentially even mean the end of his relationship with Marinette if he ever found out who she really was. I could honestly see this whole drama leading to the reveal as well. Maybe after finding out the truth, Cat Noir not knowing who to turn to decides to turn to Marinette, his girlfriend, the person who always makes him feel better and always knows exactly what to say. In a moment of weakness and wanting to find a way to explain how he found out, he reveals to Marinette that he’s Cat Noir. This would then put Marinette in a super tough situation because she could either continue to keep her secret by lying to the boy she loves or risk ruining her relationship by telling the truth and revealing herself as Ladybug. If this were to happen, I don’t imagine it going well like it did in all of these other alternate timelines where it eventually got reversed/erased. Would this all make for interesting drama and story, absolutely, but at the same time, I don’t wanna see Marinette and Adrien fighting and their relationship falling apart due to Gabriel’s selfishness.

    I agree with you as well, he didn't sacrifice anything and I also believe that is tied to the mysterious entity that scares Lila in the finale. From what I've understood Gabriel wished for a world that would make Adrien happy which is why everything is so perfect in the end. However by doing this he didn't really pay a price and as a result not only supplied Lila with the butterfly but also manifested a dark entity to bring horror and chaos into the world to balance it out. I got the idea from how the death entity is portrayed in various works, whenever death felt cheated he went out of his way to get even. I feel its something like that, I also feel that this means the end of the Heros always winning and with them taking one loss after another.

Gabriel is full of complexities with a diverse range of mental health issues, codependency issues and a developing God complex along with some abandonment issues. He had so much potential. But I feel like the writers didn’t know exactly what to do with him and were torn between making him sympathetic be making him the goofy cartoon villain.

I dunno if you or anyone in your fanbase watch Steven Universe, but it reminds me so much of Rose Quartz giving herself up to birth Steven. While it was a beautiful trade on the surface, she was responsible for so many atrocities that she never took responsibility for and then just vanished, and the show does an incredible job of showing the consequences and how that lack of resolution and accountability severely impact the characters.
    Part of me hopes that they either reverse the wish somehow (which I wouldn't put it past them to create some loophole to do so) and that Gabriel actually faces the consequences of his horrible actions; or that the truth comes out and the realistic difficulty of finding closure when the one person that is supposed to take responsibility isn't there to do so.

    I think that the purpose of Gabe being applauded as a hero/saviour, is so that Adrien will have a more complicated background (in order for the upcoming seasons). We can somewhat assume that the next hawkmoth will be Lila (tho the electric thing in the epilogue also bothers me). Whatever happens, how f**ked up would it be for Adrien to find out that Marinette is Ladybug, Monarch is Gabe, and that Ladybug lied and deceived him and all of Paris. Not just hidden from Adrien, but also from Chat Noir (obviously the same person, but the superhero partner version). It would be the heart breaking bitter truth that Lila (and those like her) would take advantage of. After all, the granted wish so far, does not seem to erase memories.

    As the reality is rewritten, there's no Hawkmoth and there is no Ladybug/Cat Noir in the changed universe. (Not to mention Master Su-Han!) Someone else will find the peacock and butterfly miraculous that Master Fu lost if it happens at all. I think the new movie will give answers but it's quite unlikely that a villain comes out of nowhere and gets the butterfly miraculous, and it will be Adrien and Marinette who get the ladybug/cat miraculous against him. Also, since this is a whole new universe, no one remembers Hawk Moth/Monarch from the defunct universe, making the ending of the final part invalid.

    I still can't believe that in the same season that Chloé was essentially banished from Paris for working with Gabriel and is left with a mother who doesn't care about her, Gabriel is seen as a hero and has a statue of himself.
    *sigh*
    I began to lose faith in this show at Season 4 with how they handled Lukanette and I couldn't take Gabriel as a threat anymore considering that, once again, his victory was handed to him by someone else. I had nothing to look forward to since every single Miraculous power has been revealed, their users, suits and codenames. Still, once I realized that Season 5 was the last season with Gabriel as a villain, I decided to see how they handled it. It was going well with Nathalie roasting Gabriel, Adrien standing up to Gabriel a few times, Gabriel looking like he was spending time with his son, Adrienette finally becoming canon. There were some hiccups with LB being stupid and not grabbing the Miraculous when she should have or the class still not believing Marinette that Lila was a liar, but it was the usual stupidity, so I was used to it.
    And then the leak happened...
    Look, I'm the type of guy that will still watch a show even if you spoil the finale for me, but this... This *broke* me. I genuinely stopped watching, only seeing reviews and reading the transcripts of the english version to make sure I didn't miss anything. I was just... done.

His dying wish was for Adrien to be happy and not find out the monster that Gabriel was and only remember the good things. I believe this was the best choice because how happy could Adrien be knowing who his father really was? I mean you saw his reactions in Ephemeral and Cat Blanc. I have to agree with you. I think this episode will seriously divide the fan-base. After 5 seasons Gabriel gets the wish - in other words the villain wins. It doesn't matter why he did it - he has - for an undetermined time in-universe - terrorized an entire city, caused a major international incident in Shang-hi, and almost started the Third World War. And now he wins. He gets exactly what he has wanted for the entire series.
    Even if Adrien does get his mother back, we have no evidence either way that she is a better person than Gabriel. It is implied that she is, but there is no canon proof. Which adds another question: if Gabriel traded his life for his wife's, then who did he trade for Natalie's? Murder by magic.

    He hurt random people, Nathalie, he hurt Adrien's friends, Adrien's gf and Adrien himself. Abused his power, influence and wealth. He planned out Adrien's life so he necer has time for himself, he never let him be himself, he wanted to force him into a relationship with a girl from good household instead of the poor baker girl (he himself was a poor designer, when Emily chose him). He locked his son and caused him to be brainwashed closed away in his deepest nightmares and then fantasies just to not think how much it hurts. With smile was telling his gf that he would happily use her life so save Emily. And he is the guy to get a statue...

    It was a sacrifice because he killed himself to bring back natalie He got greedy. Here’s how I think it worked for other people, Gabriel was suddenly defeated by ladybug, Natalie was suddenly better. Respect has to be earned. After seeing the other comments, miraculous is underrated.

    I don't know why this show acts like Gabriel cares and loves his son. When in season 1 (before his identity was revealed), he kept talking about wanting to take over the world as his motive, not to save someone. And episodes like Chat Blanc and Ephemeral, he was shown as a cruel and heartless monster after finding out his son is Chat Noir. And was easily going to destroy his son for his own benefit. And the times he was able to show that he cares about his son was only in two episodes. How is the show suppose to make us sympathize with him if he shows time and time again that he a psychopath?

  • @TryinBin8889
    @TryinBin8889 Před rokem +1

    The thing I found most stupid about the sacrifice was that GABRIEL GOT TO CHOOSE WHAT TO SACRIFICE. BECAUSE Gabriel got to choose, he could've picked Natalie or Marinette or anything ffs. Him being able to choose completely takes away the dire fear and consequences about the wish, that were heavily weighed on from season 1 to 5. "Something will have to be sacrificed!" Everyone panickedly screamed at him for 9 months straight. But it doesn't even matter because he clearly chose what to sacrifice before he decided to take on the role of Hawkmoth. It would've made so much more sense for the sacrifice to be ADRIEN by a higher being's volition.
    In this way, Gabriel is faced with one of two situations:
    - He says he wishes to bring back Emilie. The guardian says "as you wish," and he returns to a world with Emilie but now his son is in a coma. After a heartfelt goodbye, Emilie decides to wish to reverse Gabriel's wish, and goes back into a coma. Gabriel learns the importance of valuing his time with his son and the weight of his consequences, and gives up being Hawkmoth.
    - Gabriel asks to bring back Emilie. The guardian tells him, "if you wish to do so, your sacrifice will be your son." He tries to bargain with the deity, since he really just wants his family to be together. He decides to try and wish to have his family together, but the deity tells him his family is already together, and shows a memory of him and his son. And after hesitation and stress, Gabriel makes the decision to leave Emily in a coma and have his son instead. He is broken hearted but understands it is what his wife would've wanted. This would've been an amazing character arc, because it is a very different decision to a flat character.
    Ultimately I would've preferred an overall ending arc like the movie. He sees his son, feels remorse for his actions and gives up being hawkmoth. That is much more in character for Gabriel, since everything he does reflects his core value to reunite his family, but no.... the show literally makes Gabriel hit Adrien across Paris like a ping pong ball when he hypothetically finds out the truth... and leaves Chat Noir out of the final fight because Thomas Astruc is sexist... and lets Gabriel choose whatever he wants... the show is a fucking mess. Thomas always argues "it's for children!" But it would be better to teach children that "the time you have with the ones you love may be limited, but it is precious, and there are consequences to your actions." Instead of teaching them "As long as you sacrifice yourself after throwing a temper tantrum, you will be rewarded with what you desire :)"

    It was comfirmed by the creators on wikipedia that Gabe saccrificed himself to save Natalie. And besides it would make zero sense to bring Emely back since everyone knows she is "dead" and Gabriel had only a few minutes to live so it was inpossible to be with Emely even if he did bring her back so it's the most logical thing to do.
    Also it's agood thing Adrien wasn't there in the final fight because we all know what would happen if Adrien was there which was seen in Cat Blanc and Ephemeral.

    I think the reason is that Gabriel realized that he wasn’t going to be able to heal regardless what Marionette did because wouldn’t the butterflies fixed him back in the museum before he teleported away. But I still don’t think he did it for love though just that he knew he was gonna die anyway. He probably would’ve had wished that Marionette replaced Emile if Marionette didn’t showed him the video.

    villain don't deserve petty, at some point they made the conscious choice to declare humanity their enemy, whether humanity deserve it or not is a separate issue , because
    only the ones that did not know or tried to help are innocent, everyone else that was indifferent or victimized him are quilty, yet if he went after both because of his indifference and selfishness then he deserves to be punish, also with the prices of saving something always comes a terrible sacrifice people have to pay to reset or restore things, in this case gabriel's death was the price. there is no free lunch in reality or should never be one in a quasi-reality/ fiction, life is not like that. also justice is fake, this people trying to restore the status quo without realizing they do more damage than restoration by pursuing it

    i think that result that Gabriel created was done as a means of letting the truth come out to adrien in the future because there is 1 person who also knows what really went down at the agreste mansion: LILA: She arrives during the ladybug & monarch fight & when Gabriel is making his wish (& marinette is distracted by that) LILA manages to sneak down into the basement & find the butterfly miraculous & we can also assume that during that moment LILA also witnesses what goes on in that moment, & then she escapes after the wish is done cause marinette states that she searched as aquabug for the butterfly miraculous After the wish was made but could not find it, meaning that now LILA is 1 of only 3 people ( the other 2 being marinette/Ladybug & Emile) who knows the truth about monarchs last fight & lila will probably be the 1 who reveals the truth in the next season

    What really peeves me is the fact that if making the wish works under “cause and effect” rules, then realistically his wish should have had monkey’s paw levels of consequences.
    Gabe was dying, and you’re telling me that sacrificing his life (and lets be real the dude probably had like 30 minutes to live) was enough to not only bring back his deceased wife and ensure she had a long and happy life but also heal Natalie?
    Come on.
    I mean if that’s how it works why not just pawn the miraculous off to any terminal cancer patient with verifiably good intentions and let them become a martyr on the way out. Just hand baba the miraculous as she’s gasping for air so she can cure her grandson’s cancer or something.
    If it worked like the show has insisted it works for the last five seasons, then wouldn’t Gabe’s life only be worth the amount of time he had left? Wouldn’t that be depressing? He resurrects Amelie and she just dies again after like 30 minutes?
    I mean really the message Thomas Austruc seems to be sending here is “Just do whatever you want and force everyone else to clean up your messes, because so long as your motives are somewhat sympathetic it doesn’t matter how many people you screw over or how many lives you destroy. You just need to persevere and eventually you’ll get what you want and everyone will love you for it!” It’s like… nice dude… real nice. Great message for the kids.
    God now that I think about it, does Thomas Austruc actually think like that? Is he just projecting onto Gabe? You know what, I’m not even going to get into that right now.

    How I would describe Gabriel is in season 1 he was simply just trying to bring his wife back just indifferent to the pain he was causing all his happiness was because he was winning then he started to just enjoy being hawk moth in season 2 he was having so much fun being evil flat out stating he’s evil and proud of it and enjoying the fighting the pain he was causing and the evil that made him a cooler character like he’s a cool villan he’s still true to his goals Just having fun in the Side in season 3 he wants the dragon miraculous even though that’s not part of his goals in evolution I think some part of him just enjoyed being hawk moth so much that he didn’t wanna part with it

  • @buildaggedonarmanaziie4462

    I wished that Gabriel would have come back in a way because... ok, part of me is glad that he won, but another part of me feels like that was too easy of an ending for him, so I would like it if he came back. But that is never going to happen.
    Also, I think that it would have been really cool if Gabriel lost everything and became this Lex Luthor type of villain in Miraculous where he is on some, "If I couldn't defeat Ladybug as Hawkmoth or Monarch, then I will defeat Ladybug as Gabriel Agrest!" Type of stuff. And Gabriel uses his wealth, connections, and influence to his advantage, like maybe he becomes mayor, or governor, or even president, and he wages a one-man-war against all of the miraculous holders in the world like he takes away funding and resources for businesses making the businesses suffer, and taking away their homes, and messing with the school system so the kids can't go to college and he just destroys their futures and livelihoods, like he buys over Marinette's parents' bakery, he kicks them out, and he sets it on fire to where Marinette's family loses everything and they never recover, and he just does more damage as Gabriel than he ever did as Hawkmoth or Monarch proving that without any miraculous Gabriel is still powerful in his own right. That is what I wish would happen, but that is never going to happen.

    I feel like it needs to be discussed more often how Thomas Astruc is absolutely horrible at writing abusive parents.
    He treats the subject so poorly, especially with Adrien and Chloe.
    Chloe's mother is a verbally abusive and emotionally absent wench, and her father is a stupid, enabling coward with no backbone to talk back to his wife or properly raise his daughter, yet her father not only gets painted as a "good father" just because her mother is worse, but it even feels like he's getting rewarded for being a negligent, enabling sap towards Chloe by being given a "nicer" daughter like Zoe. That paired with the fact that it appears the season ended with Chloe being pushed off to go live with her mother, who is literally one of the main roots of her problems, the show essentially damned an abused child for being an abused child.
    Gabriel has neglected Adrien, is cruel and cold towards Adrien, has isolated Adrien on multiple occasions on purpose, and has invoked physical harm against Adrien, even after knowing that Adrien is Chat Noir. (Cough, Chat Blanc in which immediately after finding out Adrien is Chat Noir, Gabriel literally throws him into the Eiffel Tower, cough)
    Does Gabriel ever get any sort of punishment or commupence for what was probably years worth of emotional, mental and psychological abuse and neglect? Nope! And just like Chloe's father, he is instead rewarded by getting his happy ending while being remembered as though he was this amazing guy and not a legitimate terrorist, and an absolutely horrible father to his son.
    I honestly hope to whatever gods may exist that Thomas never has children if this is how he depicts parental abuse.
