- The Making of Hushed & Grim is a documentary that chronicles iconic, GRAMMY® Award-winning band Mastodon’s critically acclaimed 9th Studio album. The 90 minute film is an intimate look at the bands creative process, which was largely influenced by the untimely death of the bands long time friend and manager, Nick John. My firstborn son is two, almost three. My little cub isn't happy if he doesnt hear Mastadon at least a million times per day, and I will happily, perpetually listen to any of their songs that he choses. His favorite for the majority of his young life is Teardrinker. As soon as the intro plays, he runs full-speed towards the source. He is the little voice inside my head.
I now have a four month old, as well. Mastadon comforts him enough to lull him yo sleep, in perfect harmony with the night. I am a very, very proud papa.
"Our band turned 21 this year"
Mastodon can finally drink a beer! Congrats, guys!
this album is absolutely beautiful, I can't wait to watch the full behind the scenes! thank you Mastodon.
This album moved me. I cannot say that about much anymore. Mastodon are getting really great at their art.
I thought about saying "getting? Dude they've always been great".. but you're right. They keep pushing the tides (😉) and evolving and putting more of themselves into their art. That's unreal this day in age.
@@brandonaitchison3747 " in this day and age". calm down.
@@geet77777 It's true. It's like nowadays playing and being pure with your art is outlawed.
thanks, Mastodon.
this record has moved from my favorite Mastodon record to one of my favorite records, period. you really nailed it here, and i, for one, have gratitude.
It is indeed a top notch album, but personally for me, nothing beats "Elder's album: Reflections of a Floating World", not saying one's better or worse than the other, but the album hits me in so, so, so many different ways, and all of them are the correct ones, no band's album since that one has done so, other than Mastodon of course.

This album is sooooo good.
I can't stop listening to this album 🔥
YAYYYY!!!!
oh my god yes you’re doing the making of i thought you wouldn’t
One of the most poignant albums I've ever heard. At times made me tear up. Great album
Stop tearing up dude, being sensitive and shit is gonna go out of style, time to get strong. Paul.
I'm glad that I'm here to listen to your music. It's so great. You guys got my heart.
Met them at the meet and greet at the Forum this year. They were down to earth, cool guys and the show ROCKED! I hope they never stop.
I love how the band does focus on honest lyrics rather than the cookie cutter radio-shit most of the modern bands adhere to.
On that note, I believe streaming platforms and "recognition" from said platforms have ruined the way newer bands make music in the modern day and age, now everything has to be a "top of the list song" or a "radio hit" or focus on the "shock factor" and do wild stuff on the scenario. Biopics also tarnished this by putting fame on such a high pedestal and, basically telling bands that "if you don't become famous on your first years, you'll remain poor forever". It's such a sad state honestly.
Man I remember going to metal and hardcore shows in Atlanta and Mastodon opened ALL the time. Almost every weekend sometimes.
For years I have always looked for a band that, each time it releases an album, is never the same as the previous ones. Thanks to CZcams, I found Mastodon when I got the song Blood and Thunder on the recommendations. Then I after listening to more songs, I could see that the band had an incredible evolution from Remission to this Hushed and Grim. In addition, I found out that they also did the soundtrack for Jonah Hex, which I liked a lot when I was a kid. So, needless to say, I became a fan. Greetings from Portugal❤❤❤💚💚💚🤘🤘🤘
Fkn love you guys. Very rarely am I inspired by a band in the way I am inspired by you.
I gotta say it, Hushed and Grim is like your guys' Physical Graffiti. Just masterful, epic, and arguably the best album you guys have made. I love it!!!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 you're the best!!
YES YES YES YEEEEEESSS!!!! 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
Every emotion they put into this album comes through for the listener to feel. I've never gotten misty-eyed for a metal album before. Mastodon. You men and your extra band members are an inspiration.
eeewww dude, stop with the sensitivity! that shit's gonna go out of style, it's not cool, get your shit together man. "misty eyed". ew, and you read the other guys comment too, fuck off, stop with the sensitivity, it's fuckin not you.
Straight up, you guys blow my mind. That's all I can say
Brilliant album. I saw their performance at Tons Of Rock. I was in totally awe during the set and afterwards. And still is.
Крутые мужики. И классная группа. 🤟🇺🇸🎸
This must be THE album which has made the biggest swing in my opinion about it. (ive been a fan since first i heard March of the Fireants) When i first heard it, it couldn't place it because of some of the weirdest riffs and songs ive heard. But wow, after a few listens something opened up in my noggin', and now i think it could be their best album to date. Feels like a journey through all of their previous albums into the current and next.....almost like a timetravelling cascade of sounds...oh yeah and it f*cking kickass and so did the guys. My love, so strong.
It really is. It is just as good as Crack the skye or blood mountain.
Great album. People sleep on Emperor of Sand too
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS

Mastodon carrying the torch into the future
all the people that say that old mastodon was better and stuff don't really understand that the music isn't the only important thing in an album, but the meaning behind everything, and that's why I'll always love mastofon either you guys sing eith that beautiful caveman sound or go with a more softer tone
Just discovered this band after hearing Teardrinker. Feel like i have missed out on some good music but now have loads to catch up on.
Excellent reason to put any and all devices on silent/airplane/offline!👍🤘🔥
In comparison to „Emperor of Sand“ not my cup of tea, but 2 strong songs I found for myself
0:10 "we are not the same dudes as before".... except Brann he is a vampire. lol
2 songs from this album make me cry my eyes out thinking about my poor dog, Tabitha who I lost last year. Can you guess which two?
Probably the greatest double album ever made!
❤
This album.... fuck.
NOONE does this with music anymore.
Mastodon becomes more "Mastodon" every album.
I am grateful for their existence. 🙏
All this hullabaloo about the new record and it sounds exactly as their last few records: amazing, beautiful, rich with production and songwriting 😁
This band is 🪨 🎸
