Nice Job! I too would skip the safety gear. But my family depends on me to do it again tomorrow and the next day. I don't want them to have to worry or have to take care of me if I get messed up. Glasses, plugs and now a hard hat since I got clobbered by 6' of dead pine from a 40' drop. God Bless You Always, you have a real talent there.
Thanks to all of you ....you have made my night....I'm pissing my self reading all of your comments..I honestly haven't laughed like this for a long time.Thank you
Somebody should tell this guy about a Humboldt notch. Also once the tree starts to fall that is your clue to STOP cutting and start moving on your escape route that you pre-planned at a 45 degree angle to the hinge. I guess that assumes this guy knows what a hinge is and what 45 degrees means. That could be a stretch. The saw operator should definitely buy some life insurance. One more helpful hint, don't mention this video to the insurance company.
I only use humbolt wedges. It’s the safest and most accurate wedge but most like to use conventional. A humbolt wedge with a ms880 will be hard tho. That’s a heavy saw lol
FWIW - ear plugs can mess with some people's inner ear and balance. So there actually can be a bigger risk using them. I'm really not sure what the hearing protection solution would be for those people
I’m not an arborist but handling a big saw like that requires skill, strength and experience. Possessing only two of the three can likely get you killed. Look Mom one hand on the saw, walking around while cutting-WTF! A saw needs to be handled with precision and respect, these guys are lucky they didn’t get themselves in deep Doo-Doo. Unfortunately, common sense isn’t so common these days.
Is it just me or is it time the chain was touched up? Seems to be a lot of fine dust blowing around. They really set those wedges, don't they? Tree that big starts to lean me and my saw are somewhere else!
The rakes need filed down a bit. That yields the bigger chips of course the kick back is more violent. But you're right when that 🌳 starts ta go . Get the hell outta there.
Safety is important, but most of the negative comments are from pros who don't what anyone using a saw but them.Because the more people learn the job, the less work they get.And it's a bit off that thing, when a new guy starts logging, he is a green bean learning, then when he has got his qualifications in the field ,he thinks he knows it all,and when a new kid comes he gets belittled like when he started
Safety gear is a must...why take the chance? If you want to be looked at as a professional do what the professionals do - Wear safety gear and never stop learning! You'll live longer too!
thats an 880 stihl magnum. no amount of safety gear is gonna stop that thing when its out of control. sometimes the safety gear is more of a hazard. you have too much hanging off you the greater the chance something might get hung up. happened to giy using a wood chipper. safety gear got hung up and drug him through it.
Yes, a bit unusual but at 3:10 into the video look at the size of that wedge. He about busted a gizzard trying to pick it up. I think a plastic wedge was tapped in just keep the saw blade from pinching until the notch cuts were complete.
You know why you almost never see arrogant, know it all, wanna-be tough guy types running a chainsaw for a living? Because they don't live for very long in that line of work.
Glad I found this, LMAO right now ! I don't know whats more funny, the dwarf who can't hold the saw up, or the goofy helper who enters the frame with a claw hammer and can't hit the wedge ! You should have to be at least 48" tall to use a MS880 !
the big timber guys know that none of this gear saves you from tree hitting you of this size. if your gonna cut a tree this big hopefully your past training wheels ( PPE ) when u pick up a saw like this lol, i wouldn't mind having some ear plugs though
he was trying to get the tree felled without splitting it. great job. big trees are dangerous, they can be hollow, making the task even more dangerous than it is. also as trees grow they pull sand up into the stump dulling chains really fast. its a controlled gamble as which way they fall.. still a good fell.
NZAurora you are correct Arro,,,,, Stp......other ones that start with S.........But the helper if he see a house following on top of him or anyone the speed its the same, about the chainsaw,i myself like the other ones Husqvarna 3120 xp or the 395 xp
Good job. That's a horse of a tree to Cut. Safety gear is needed but that's your call. I've only cut a couple that big in my life. It takes careful planning to do it right. Good job
All these folks criticizing you are idiots.. My family tree service has this saw and it is a monster. Hard to handle, you're danged right it is - this guy did good!. I hate it when one of us has to sharpen this bad boy. Once we hit concrete that was in a tree and it was forever to get it sharp again. We use a wedge and an ax to jack a tree over (but a claw hammer works too). Oh, BTW, we don't wear all the extra crap either - I'm 62 yrs old, been cutting for a LONG time, since high school.
Good job on throwing around an 88 wearing a 5' bar, that's not easy so well done there, nice chain too. PPE is a different story, it's easy to dismiss it but when the shit hits you'll regret it. You'll wish you had chaps when there's blood pouring out of the shattered ripped mess that used to be a human, you'll wish you were wearing a hat when a lump of deadwood falls on you from above, they're regularly fatal. You also wish you were wearing eye protection when you get a face full of small hardwood dust, causing you to lose sight and possibly control of the tree you're felling which puts everyone else in danger. And in the future when your hearing is shot, guess what, you can tell everyone how you wish you'd worn ear protection. If you want to be seen as professional you have to act like one
This guy is just way to aggressive, when it comes to big fell its best to take your time and wedge it rather than keep the saw running until its hit the ground. For all he knew that tree could of back jumped and crush him...
He wedged the notch because its a two hundred pound chunk of wood. Its so he can get it out. How to tell if commenters don't know what they're talking about.
if you watch his other video of a 52' gum tree you can see another angle. there is an excavator pushing it over. a lot of it lands in the road still but it looks like they have flaggers.
il have wheels this summer il be looking for work once i get my but together i love working in the woods im in MA u have a business or something i just cut some firewood here and there im pretty good with saws i runs 50cc mostly biggest im starting to run now is my 038 mag, 2ft bar heavy for 72ccs a beast though i maintain my saws hand file chain stuff like that. my lower back into my hips took a hard hit from pulling wheelies on a mini four wheeler lol
that chainsaw guy is awesome, i have absolute respect for him. i own that same saw and it's a friggin' ferocious beast of a saw! i can't help but smile when i run it into some huge red oaks, it makes my ms 361 and ms 441 magnum look like little school girls! lmao! go 880! :)
Are you kidding me. Put your saw away before you skrach your key bourd ,of course you're U know those keyboards can be dangerous ,watch out u might brake a nail!!!
For one that notch was too small and too low and that second notch could cause the tree to shift if I was that helper I'd tell this guy to shove it I have almost 8 years experience in tree felling and I would never ever fell a tree like this!
And yet he dropped it fast and with great precision. Sound like he knows what he is doing and you do not. Also the second and third cuts were not notches, he was removing the hips of the base so they would not hinder the fall.
That's actually a complex question. There are times when normal PPE can become a liability. An example is a helmet normally worn by a bomb squad technician. Not wearing the helmet means you get burned. Wearing the helmet means you get decapitated. Whether or not the guy in this video made the the correct decision depends on a whole lot of information we don't get to see in this video
Oh my god. Wedging the notch??? Like thats not going to pinch the chain. Well it might have if he'd used a propper hammer. The way the cutter handles that saw, I would take some solace in the fact that he is more likely to pick up a "Darwin Award" before he drops a tree on an innocent bystander.
The way this tree was cut is wrong in many ways the notch should be strait across and the back cut should stop to leave the hinge wood once the tree starts to fall there is no need to keep cutting if the butt broke off the stump and bounced it could have killed him , but luckily the tree came down safe !
All of the you tube experts here Crack me up. Ole boy dropped the tree fast and well while handling a heavy powerful saw well.....PPE is exactly that Personal Protection Equipment......his choice not yours.
I disagree with some of the comments below, first of all I not only have great balls but for your info they are made of titanium and not steel like some. I would have no problem cutting that tree and would do it wearing eye protection along with ear plugs topped over with ear muffs for added eardrum protection. Secondly I would of kept that goober with the wedges and carpenter hammer, lol far out of the way since he certainly did not have a fucking clue on what to do or how to do it. Nice saw though and it appeared to be cutting quick and straight which is a good sign of the owner. Next time keep that gumby with the wedges out of site he ruins your clip pretty badly and try to keep a good sized splitting maul handy for driving a wedge or two if needed and not a homeowners carpenter hammer which is really inadequate to say the least.
I like the proper use of safety-squints in the start of this video, keep it up!
Nice Job! I too would skip the safety gear. But my family depends on me to do it again tomorrow and the next day. I don't want them to have to worry or have to take care of me if I get messed up. hard hat with ear muffs $40, saw chaps $60, safety glasses $5. human life priceless.

Shut up dumb @$$ !!!!!

Nice job with a great saw. My only comment is I would have had the guy with the wedges bring a man size hammer.
A hard hat costs $12.00
Saw chaps are 70.00
Ear plugs .99 cents
Might save a life.
The hard hat is the most important
FWIW - ear plugs can mess with some people's inner ear and balance. So there actually can be a bigger risk using them.
I'm really not sure what the hearing protection solution would be for those people
earmuffs? chaps? patience? skill? didnt see any here
HE IS NOT YELLING HES DEFF LOL
i love seeing people try to wedge a tree with a sixteen ounce claw hammer- the mark of a true professional
👍👍👍👍👍👍Great work and saw!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍

single tapers! piece of cake with a Lil hammer. fun show! this would win AFV Tree guy edition.
😲 Amazing.. STILH MS 880
yeah I have a 064 too, there still a great saw.

propa nut job a right example to up and coming tree lads and lasses
he seems like a horrible guy to work for. Yelling at his helper, and thinking he's tough enough not to need safety gear. what a jerk
+Caleb VeeDub this is that kind of jobs where you need to Yell because otherwise you can be on cemetary very quickly
+Caleb VeeDub that helper is a dumbass. making more work then necessary. why would you want to wedge the notch? thats a good way to pinch the saw
+OffroadTrucker740 Exactly what I was thinking.. Plus, he has to yell for the dumbass to hear him over the chainsaw..
thats an 880 stihl magnum. no amount of safety gear is gonna stop that thing when its out of control. sometimes the safety gear is more of a hazard. you have too much hanging off you the greater the chance something might get hung up. happened to giy using a wood chipper. safety gear got hung up and drug him through it.
if that thing got out of control, there would be a sawed off leg with orange safety chaps.
Was just waiting for tree to bounce back at end, human battering ram.
Why the hell was the dude putting wedges into the birds mouth??
James Mitchell i was sitting here thinking what the heck is he doing that for
They help roll the tree in a particular direction once the hinge cut opens and the notch collapses.
but you dont pop them in when your still cutting the notch.
My best guess is he was trying to pop the notch out and shear off small pieces the operator may have missed..
Yes, a bit unusual but at 3:10 into the video look at the size of that wedge. He about busted a gizzard trying to pick it up. I think a plastic wedge was tapped in just keep the saw blade from pinching until the notch cuts were complete.
Geezers so hard even his fucking nightmares are scared of him
Thanks the best display of using a hammer i have ever seen!!!

Sad to see the old ones fading..
Nice clean job man
Lmao@ the dude that pops out of nowhere with the wedges and weak hammering skills! Haha I love the sound those big trees make on their way down!
Super maestru 👍
Same kind of guy who rides a sport bike with NO gear. Squids aren't necessarily limited to motorcycles.

Today, on "Tweeker With A Chainsaw"!
HAHAHAHAHA
Ya theres a difference between working fast and being an angry gnome
great job man!
definitely not a textbook cut. glad these guys didn't get hurt.
yeah bud nice job continuing your back cut as the tree falls I was waiting for it to kick back and take him out not good tree fellibg habits
What do you mean you can't even spell!!!!
@@chrisiollich4890 lol oh one letter because my hands are big and pressed one letter over. You must be the Nancy boy banging the wedges
For 2 the pie cut is suspect as hell!!! Yet what do I know I'm just a crane climber I flush cut and shelf cut everything🤔
Should step away in case it bounces back.
This guy is so mad he's so short, I bet he walks around all day trying to convince everyone he's bigger. Hence the MS880.
No chaps, No helmet, No glasses, No hearing protection...No Clue!!!!

Get that damn helper a bigger hammer.
Maybe he needed a pair of yoga pants too?
Trying to drive wedges with a damn claw hammer. Pitiful.
Why?
It's such a big tree once it starts leaning over the weight will bring it down. Get the hell out of there when the back cut starts opening up.
A big NICE!
i have an 064, stihl kicks ass!
Hurts me to see such a big tree come down.
Idiot. You dont even know anything about the tree. Nothing was mentioned. Could be a hazard tree could be dead.
@@stumpshot9970 looks damn healthy to me
Clean rather nicely done now safety gear or ppe but ok 👌
did you see the size of that splinter. I know its not a veneer tree, but I still don't like to pull splinters.
gotta learn somehow!
Do these dudes actually know what they're doing
+Matthew Lewis nope, not at all

I watched this to see the saw but all I saw was a really unsafe operator and helper.
They do make smaller hammers. Or do they?
I think the guy pounding the wedges was hitting them with his purse!!!!!!
That saw is a monster he got it done gum can be a pain
It takes a hell of a power head ta run a bar that long.
HEY! That's a nice saw!
What was the rest of that going on????????????????
Pffft. Who needs safety when they have a $3000 saw to throw around. :picardfacepalm:
Yeah, I have to wonder if this guy is still alive.
dog and pony show over here...
Where are you going to find chaps when you are 3 feet tall?
