    I love Gil Kane's work so much. He was absolutely incapable of drawing a boring figure. I just got massive Artist's Editions of Joe Kubert's Enemy Ace and EC's Covers and haven't even unboxed them yet. But looking forward to poring over every page.

      Gil Kane is a superb artist, he certainly had a style of drawing figures. I would love to see many more volumes of IDW artisans of his work. The EC Covers book is superb, I unboxed it as soon as I got it. I regret not getting a few of the Joe Kubert volumes, hopefully that will be rectified if they bring out an artisan edition or two.

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews I think of Kane, Kubert and Kirby as the gifts that keep on giving, such is the endless fount of their work. So IDW might be able to do Artisan editions of Kane alone until the end of the century (assuming they can find the owners of all that work). And yes, the same for Joe Kubert. Just an absolute prodigy.

      @@GodLovesComics Definitely but there many others I would love to see in Artisan as well, a Joe Maneely one, Bill Everett etc (doubt if they would sell in huge numbers though)

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews I think the biggest problem might be tracking down enough original art for a Maneely edition, but I don't know. I love Bill Everett. I think he was an extraordinary talent who was literally at the dawn of Timely Comics and still drawing well into the Bronze Age. The thing about Everett is how much he altered his technique and approach for the Atlas horror comics as compared to his superhero stuff. Someone like Kirby looked the same regardless of genre, but Everett did not.

      Definitely, would love to see a massive 'Art of Gil Kane' book though as well as perhaps 'Marvel covers of Gil Kane' (that would be a volume and a half)

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews That will never happen but yes a proper massive art book would be heaven for us Gil Kane fans.I collect Gil Kane production art covers a very expensive hobby but I am obsessed with his cover art and comic art.

      Good book, that one is still in print ! I have all of the Artisans so far, will try to keep to that unless they release some truly weird artisan edition. I've enjoyed them all so far to a degree, as mentioned, the Mike Mignola so far has been my least favourite but there are still some great pieces of art in that - they are always excellent additions

    A great book by a master craftsman, I think the Spidey titles were held back from UK release because of the Spider-man UK weekly so that they were not competeing with each other thus boosting the Spider-man weekly sales, great vid, thanks for sharing.

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, didn't know that at the time but that was just plain weird. Why would they compete ? I could tell the difference (easily) between the US and the UK ones and now there are only about 20,000 Different Spider-man titles per month (well perhaps a few less than that) as well as some UK ones. A whole load of great issues came out at that time and they were only available up in places like Dark They Were. I picked up a number of them on my very occasional trip up to London such as the Avengers / Kang story. Perhaps they were readily available via mail order, never did that, never felt confident enough to send my money that way. The titles were not even the same, a big clue being in the title, Spider-Man Weekly. I am surprised they ever released any summer specials if they were worried about confusing people at the newsagents. I was always happy to buy both the Fantastic Four US as well as the UK versions.

      @@AndrewBuckleBookReviews Yes I liked both, though I did favour the US comics I think it was the full colour that swayed me.

    I'll be checking that one out soon. I'd really like them to do Micronauts next in artisan

    • @AndrewBuckleBookReviews
      @AndrewBuckleBookReviews  Před 2 lety +1

      that would be good but as the volume only fairly recently came out, I suspect it will be a little while before we get to see it in Artisan. I wish they would release them faster. The RC one is next, looking forward to that but no ideas about any future ones. I would love to see them all available in that format but I doubt if that will ever happen (no idea about the potential sales etc)
