      @mrgigoustic8332 Před 3 lety +8

      Too true. However, I can understand how he probably felt. It was tougher on him singing in the register he had to, night after night, after night. I think it was the aftermath of the World Slavery Tour, that probably stuck with him for years later. When I saw them at this time (or not too long before) at Castle Donington 1992, he said, at the beginning of Run To The Hills: "Come on, you know this one - don't have to say it." This seemed to indicate he was getting a bit fed up. However, they still continued and he carried on until he left, regarding what issues there were beyond the scenes; unlike another famous band at that time that, due to their front man, used to walk off stage after an upset with a single individual, or turn up on stage, again due to their singer, two to three hours late (though I do like this band).
      Bruce came back and rocked hard again with the band - still trying their best to deliver great albums, along with their live performances being as strong as ever, if not stronger - UP THE IRONS!!

      I read in an unautorized bio which copiled interview and sayings from various time periods of the band, that Harris wanted to punch him at some instances in this tour, cos Bruce didn't always deliver the 100% on his performances. I know Maiden has never been a band of public scandals among their ranks, but some fights occurred, even since 86' at the SIT production and recording, when Harris and Bruce ended in some punch fight. Maybe that is why that record is overlooked by the band to this very day🤷‍♂️

      Look at it like this.
      It's Steve's band. HE and ONLY HE is in charge of the Maiden Machine.
      If he thought for one second Jan was taking away from anything Maiden, he would have booted him a LONG time ago.
      I get so upset with all the Jan haters because it's not just taking a stab at him, It is also taking a stab at Steve's decision making skills. And quite frankly, If you're going to take on Steve, you better be DAMN FUCKIN' SURE Eddie and Rod Smallwood are NOWHERE to be found.... ;)

    • @j.f.sproductions3704
      @j.f.sproductions3704 Před 8 lety +2

      Talent-wise, his solos are pretty good. Appeal-wise, they may sound like crap to some. Atleast he isn't trying to be something he is not. He obviously doesn't try to be Adrian Smith. For Maiden, that is a good thing. Another band, say where the original guitarist is dead(REO Speedwagon), should have a guitarist more alligned in the original's playing style. Recording-wise, Adrian Smith wasn't the original guitarist of Maiden. The only original guitarist of Maiden is technically Murray. He is there. Murray plays most of the solos anyway. Jan is sometimes hilarious to watch too. If you don't like the way he moves, then you have no sense of humor. It is Steve's band after all. I laughed and kinda felt bad when I heard he fell off the stage.

      The band alleged in their official biography "Run to the Hills" (released before the 1999 reunion & during the ill fated Blaze era) that during this tour Bruce would only perform well whenever he knew that the band would be professionally recorded or filmed and the band was playing in a major city or venue. Though i've yet to see or hear any evidence supporting this accusation, its quite possible this might have occurred.

      Bruce Seemed to lose a lot of his voice in 1985, but in 1990 he started to regain it again and then some. Listening to Balls to Picasso and some of the straining parts of 7th Son (even if it's my favorite Maiden probably) are like night and day. He kinda peaked in my opinion in the mid nineties through 00's- not quite as high as 81-84 peak with Maiden but great nevertheless. His recent vocals are a bit strained again, though he's not as bad as he was on the second half of World Slavery or much of the Somewhere on Tour footage I've seen.

      I think Bruce sounds better today since rejoining the band then he did in the 80s . I think the length of the World Slavery Tour really did a number on his vocals and he didn't give them ample time to recover before recording SIT and going on tour again . When he rejoined in 99 he sounded great and hasn't stopped .

There's another video somewhere on CZcams with an interview with Steve regarding how tense it was on this tour, might have even been filmed during the tour. Nicko particularly was angry at Bruce for his lackluster performances apparently. I can't imagine how cringe-worthy it must have been for everyone knowing that one of the band members was leaving. Embarking on a whole tour where you know one of the members doesn't want to be there, must have been awful for everyone.. He did, and everyone on and off stage knew it. Both Harris and Dickinson later said that the tension and atmosphere during that tour was terrible. It is surprising that they still put on a rather professional show here, although you can clearly see that Bruce performs below is usual potential.

    Bruce in the studio is my favorite singer of all time but some of his live performances, mostly back in his first stint with Maiden, are embarrassing. I would never play this for someone I was trying to turn on to Maiden. Thank God his live performances in stint 2 are vastly superior and consistent IMO. If only we could have BOH Bruce back. Some Bruce is better than no Bruce. We are lucky he can still sing after the cancer scare. Looking forward to 1st show in Sunrise where his voice will be nice and rested.

    Well maiden by 1988 had become a stadium band and during the 90s they tried to strip off their earned glory and become a small venue band yet once again. Musically there is Nothing wrong with that I actually love the 90s albums but I can't really understand all that sudden attitude change. And history taught us that Adrian was right not to like that backstep, 2000 was their comeback year and they reclaimed their deserved place upon the throne . Anyway up the irons!!

    • @mikatu
      @mikatu Před 4 lety +5

      Yes, those were the grunge years, that was what the bands were doing back then. Also, Adrian didn't like the speed of play. The band was turning into trash/speed. I'm glad those years went by fast because no prayer for the dying was a really bad album (bad for Maiden, but still a solid album for an average band).

    • @TjMetalHead94
      @TjMetalHead94 Před 3 lety +5

      @@mikatu It was also too because Steve was being an absolute control freak at the time. He dismissed a lot of Bruce's and Adrian's ideas. As Bruce put it he felt like he was just a hired gun than an actual bandmate.

      @WastedYears76 Před 2 lety +2

      Bruce was just as much to blame for the change from Seventh Son to No Prayer. He and Steve were writing a lot of material together and wanted to record quickly. Adrian wanted to take his time.
