What counts as K-Pop? Yeah, that is a mirky question that a lot of people have their own answer to that. For me, I think K-Pop should be pop music produced in Korea. It doesn't have to have Korean lyrics as we've seen groups do full Japanese or English songs, but I feel if a company in Korea makes the song designed to be K-Pop, it's K-Pop. If we're branching outside of Korea, I do think that having a Korean member should be a must at the very least. Anything else just feels like copying the aesthetics of K-pop while not actually being K-pop.
That said... lest you all forget how K-pop became popular, it started off being a copy of J-Pop (with American Pop added in for good measure). So while people are militant on what is or isn't K-pop, don't act like they sprang up out of no where and that K-pop is the holy grail. Every genre has to start somewhere. If K-Pop is the cousin of J-Pop, then it's not out of the whelm of believability that other countries can use what works with K-pop and translate that into their own flavor. BBBUUUTTTTT if they're only doing it to capitalize off of K-Pop, adding nothing new or unique to the table, then that's what you call a rip-off.
As far as BINI is concerned, I think they fall into what I was talking about above: They are K-Pop inspired, but are very much their own thing. In fact, if they keep getting bigger internationally they might be the start of a new genre? Of course I'm not in the Filipino music scene so I really have no leg to stand on talking about this, so take whatever I'm saying with a grain of salt. The most I know about Filipino entertainment is that Darna is hot. BUT having said that, if there are other groups who are inspired by BINI and take the theme and run with it, then you got something that isn't a novelty anymore. Those other groups can't be BINI rip-offs, otherwise it won't work, they have to be it's own thing - but inspired by the same sources. I very much like that idea of cultures learning from each other and creating something new. I think that's how art grows, and BINI sort of embodies that. I don't think they are ripping off K-Pop, I think they can stand next to it and be presented as their own thing.

It is not K-pop now since their group is based in the Philippines and they are singing in Filipino. Many K-pop idols have pointed out themselves that it is just the language but music is universal. K-pop is not a genre of music, because it is vague how K-pop songs can be EDM, funk, hip-hop/r&b, ballad, and literally any actual genre of music and they still call it K-pop.

Oh girl! you forgot the most important details here 😂
    before that..
    What is Kpop?
a very short answer is a pop music with Korean/English lyricism and infused with korean system choreography. A pop music primarily for Korean audiences
    Is BINI Kpop?
partially, Yes! only during their "Da Coconut" era
because their choreography was taught by Koreans and also their voice Pitch was adjusted low to sound Korean
    Is BINI representing Kpop music?
Nope! only in their pre-debut song. Their songs LAGI, I FEEL GOOD, BORN TO WIN, STRINGS, KARERA, PANTROPIKO, SALAMIN-SALAMIN and their upcoming songs are all produced, composed, choreographed, stylized by none other than Filipino artist & professionals
Why their PANTROPIKO song got viral?
because people got curious on the music. A very first pop music with Filipino lyricism, sweet summer melody and a touch of hawaiian-like dance
    Is PANTROPIKO inspired from Kpop?
Pantropiko in english is "Tropical" the song is showcasing the relaxing, peaceful and joyful summer vibe of the Philippines and all the lyrics of Pantropiko is all about how an affection of a lady to a guy is being related to the feeling of summer vibe (peaceful/relaxing/joyful). Korea was never a Tropical country so obviously it is never inspired from any Kpop music. Even the outfit is so summer vibe lol
    So back again..
    Is BINI Kpop?
    Yes! in idiots POV 😂

If you wanna get technical about it, K-Pop, or Pop Music even, these aren't really Genres of Music. They are Umbrella terms, that have more to do with branding and marketing, not really anything to do with the music. K-Pop is more about the image, and about the Idol system specifically. It's more about all the stuff that's being done around the music, while the music itself can be pretty much any popular musical genre.
XG and BINI seem to take a lot of inspiration and lessons from how K-Pop groups are formed, trained and groomed to be Idols. This, of course, does have an affect on their music as well, because that is part of the fantasy they are selling. The Idol system aims to put these groups and individuals on a pedestal in a more direct way, than we tend to see in Western Pop. It's more heightened, more exaggerated to sell the Idol. Creating Fandoms is a good way to have both short and long term success, so you need something to direct people towards. I think this is once again one of those things where the West created something, and the East perfected the system for the specific function.

BINI concept was a bubble gum pop concept and bubble gum pop concept was already popular in western countries and also here in the Phillipines one of the examples here is Jolina Magdangal during 90s, so it means during 90s we have already Bubble Gum pop here, Kpop doing bubble gum Pop concept year 2000s, popular group who did bubble gum Pop concept is SNSD and year 2010 is Twice.

I think that it's quite a missed opportunity that you didn't touch upon the musciality of BINI. In how it's similar to previous OPM pop hits (Jolina Magdangal, Donnalyn Bartolome, etc.) and a far cry from how Kpop is composed right now. Yeah it might be "bubblegum pop" but it's OPM bubblegum pop.

    • @mariajagarcia24
      @mariajagarcia24 Před měsícem +1

And I'm not mistaken, Bubble Gum pop concept is already popular in Philippines year 90s because of Jolina Magdangal, meanwhile in Kpop it was year 2000's via SNSD.

But what is KPOP? Pop that is produced in Korea? When it comes to influence, KPOP is influenced by JPOP and Western Pop. PPOP is influenced by Western Pop , Kpop and it has its distinct OPM sound ( at least for BINI songs). For BINI, the producers/ management adapted the business model for kpop but not the music or sound.

"Some" of Ppop groups today got inspired from Kpop sound and literally alligning their sound to Kpop music due to their companies under Korean management. There is no objection about that fact.
but BINI, SB19, ALAMAT, BGYO and G22? Kid! I guess you should start exploring the culture of OPM right now so you would know that saying the entire Ppop music is influenced by Kpop is a dumbass statement 😂
